Massive disappointment, the way he flashed last year combined with the intense work he put in this offseason had me feeling great about him.

For now he's being put out of mind altogether, they're going to have to produce without him... dude cant even practice until week 6, so we'll maybe see him starting week 8.

Really? But people can gush over UDFA Bray?

You can, but it's just as stupid.

Maybe Bray can pull it together in the next 7 months to prove he can be a QBotF. But there's better odds of me walking to the convenience store, buying five scratch off lotto tickets and winning $1,000 on each of them.

Catapano panning out is like buying five scratch offs and winning a $1,000 total.

Bob Gretz's guess is mono, but he admits even the press can't get any details on his malady.

The disease usually strikes younger people, but the older the person the more severe the symptoms may be.

"In particular, bed rest need not be prescribed, and a return to normal activities is desirable as soon as it is comfortable for them to be resumed (gradually, if necessary). Nevertheless, in an effort to decrease the risk of splenic rupture experts advise avoidance of contact sports and other heavy physical activity, especially when involving increased abdominal pressure or the Valsalva maneuver (as in rowing or weight training), for at least the first 3–4 weeks of illness or until splenomegaly has resolved, as determined by a treating physician."

Crazy shit can affect the kinds of people you'd never think it could... three years ago I had a case of shingles so bad on the right side of my head, and down into my right eye, that the doc was afraid I'd not only lose sight in my right eye but that it would get so far back in there that it'd give me Encephalitis of the brain.

Missed a full month of work and even then wasnt feeling or looking right.

"Whaaa, I thought this was an old folks problem?"... the Doc said "nope".

Whatever is going on with this all pro in waiting, it must be kinda bad for the secrecy to be so severe.

Get well, Mike.

Kansas City Chiefs DE Mike Catapano practiced just a handful of times during training camp with what the Chiefs called an illness. He was placed on the non-football injury list to start the season. It's Week 2 and we still don't know what's wrong with Catapano, and it sounds like the Chiefs don't either.

Here's an exchange from Andy Reid's press conference today. (KC Star's Terez Paylor was asking the questions).

Q: Do we know what's wrong with Mike Catapano yet? Is he in town?

Reid: We don't have anything for you on that. They're still doing research on that and we'll see how things go.

Q: Have you ever seen anything like what's happening with him, whatever it is?

Reid: It's a concern obviously. Our docs are on top of it. He's seen some specialists and they're on top of it. There are no conclusions that have been set yet but they're working on stuff there. They're in communication. My thing is, I always care for the player and you want the best for them at this point. We'll just see how things work out.

Q: Is Mike in good spirits? Have you talked to him?

Reid: John Dorsey [talked to him] yesterday. He just wants to make sure he's OK. That's the main thing.

Q: Is it a coordination type thing, is there anything ... it's not flu-like symptoms. I don't know how to describe it.

Reid: I'm not sure I know how to describe it either right now. We'd have to get something from the doctors to tell you exactly. I'm not in that position right there.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs, who are fourth in the league with nine sacks, don’t need any immediate help with their pass rush. But they won’t be able to bolster their rush later in the season with the addition of Mike Catapano.

Catapano’s season ended this week when the Chiefs moved him to the injured-reserve list. Catapano, who has a viral condition the Chiefs have yet to publicly define, had been on the non-football illness list. That gave Catapano the chance to return later in the season.

The Chiefs gave up on that hope by making the move with Catapano, who could have provided some depth and a fresh body as a pass-rusher later in the season had he been able to return.

"That’s where we’re at," coach Andy Reid said. "That was a long process. It’s better he just steps back and gets himself back healthy and feeling good."

Catapano returned to the Chiefs' practice facility on Thursday. He opened training camp with the Chiefs but was able to practice only for a few days before the Chiefs shut him down.

"He’s just trying to get his strength back," Reid said. "He’s starting to feel better. I had a chance to visit with him. He’s in good spirits. That’s positive. Now it’s just a matter of building back up and getting himself back to where he gets his strength back."

Scurvy.

I'm going with scurvy.

It's scury, isn't it?

Scurvy.

Let's check his teeth if we see a picture of him at some point.

It could be whooping cough.

Guess he got the concussion from the one practice he took part in during camp...

On Friday, the Chiefs finally revealed the mystery illness that has been plaguing defensive end Mike Catapano for the better part of two months.

“Mike had two issues,” trainer Rick Burkholder said. “One, he had a virus that was gastrointestinal based. As we studied that — and we studied it extensively — he went to New York to the hospital for special surgeries and there it was determined that he had another problem, that he had a concussion.”

Catapano was moved from the reserve/non-football illness list to injured reserve earlier this week, and was last spotted in the building Thursday.

Burkholder, who did not take questions about Catapano’s condition, said he was placed on the non-football illness list because of the virus and then placed on injured reserve because of the concussion, which proved to be a little harder to diagnose.

“He was studied at New York University Hospital, the University of Michigan and the University of Pittsburgh for the concussion,” Burkholder said.

However, with a prognosis now known, Catapano can finally start the process of recovery, though his move to injured reserve ensures he will not return this season.

“We’ve gotten a prognosis and we’ve got rehabilitation to do,” Burkholder said. “He’s back here. He’s doing rehab with us and he’ll be re-evaluated in two weeks.

The "training and conditioning" is what may have given him the "gastrointestinal" virus. No Mr. NFL official, he actually cannot pee in the cup, he has a gastrointestinal virus and cannot pee for 9-12 months. Please come back in 9-12 months and he can pee for you.

Concussion added for a future settlement maybe?

****ing shady ESPECIALLY in light of that post and Today's KC Star article. What is the truth here? I'd like to know why we lost a good player for the year for a mystery virus and a concussion that will be revisited in 2 weeks. Why 2 weeks??

I dont see the point in beating the scandal drum right now, with all of the injuries the last thing we need to throw on top of it is a bigass scandal.

If they mishandled something then lets just hope they learn from their mistake and lets move on with the football season sans a bunch of hoopla... the guys gonna live and presumably play football next year, thats good enough for me.

true i hear that...but can you imagine being his teammate and learning he was given anesthesia while he had a concussion? they could've killed him. that would scare the shit out of me to be quite honest.

If the rumors are true, then yes... that was a scary situation.

But I doubt we ever find out what exactly did or didnt happen, if they screwed up that bad they'll move heaven and earth to squash it.

well hopefully he makes a full recovery. Sucks to lose a player for the season but main thing is he heals 100% that comes before football.

yep...and they put him back on the field anyway then he passed out and was taken away in an ambulance. :doh!: AND given anesthesia because they thought it was something else i'm being told now from 2 different sources. Sorry but this is scandalous  hopefully he recovers 100% and will be ok for next year at least, but damn this is a fucking shame

When did this happen?

When did this happen?

Before the 3rd pre season game is when he was taken away in ambulance and then flown to NY for more testing after they couldn't figure out what was wrong. He was to be the starting DE for that 3rd game because Devito was out with broken hand but he collapsed in practice. The Chiefs "thought" he had a virus but supposedly he had a failed concussion test a week earlier but for some "odd" reason was never diagnosed correctly and protocol was never followed and was treated as having a virus instead.

I have a friend who had a gastro-intestinal virus and it put her totally out of commission for 6 months. It takes all your strength and leaves you totally weakened. So if he had something similar, that alone would make playing football a moot point.
