Never had one one, but grew up around neighbors who did..now have a few friends who have them. Great dogs...if I were to get a dog a basset would be a finalist.
- most live long lives
- can be either indoor or outdoor
- as for skin...to each his own

Just get the lower maintenance cousin, the dachshund. I have two, they are great dogs.

son had one for a few years. house dog.

good dog. nasty farts, but mine are killer too. i was only around it maybe a dozen times, but it was always cool. was fine around their little kid too, but you could tell it didn't like having those ears fucked with.

i think they adopted it after it was grown up. think it was pretty old when it died.

would i have one? if it could live outside.

On my 4th one. I adopted mom's after she died and that dog lived to 23 years. But I don't let my Bassets get fat. Have 2 at the moment. 12 and 2 years old.

Have had Bassets for the last 12 years. Always adopted. There is a few basset rescues in the Kc area.

An ex had two of them...The stench was so bad I couldn't go to her house. I could smell the dogs on her clothes and her car was ruined.

Best with a fruitwood smoke, but they'll stand up to hickory or even mesquite if you don't overdo it.

Basset Hounds are the Fran Dresher of dogs.....long face, big ears and annoying, whining drone.


My neighbor had one. I hated that dog almost as much as his fat ass.

Don't get a fran dresher dog.
