If you have bought anything from April - Now with a credit card at Home Depot you better read this because "Borris" may have your credit card number. This is even bigger than the Target hack around Christmas time last year. If you have used a credit card there, you can get free credit monitoring for a year and I would highly suggest you do so.

Scottrade sent me an email a week ago that Master Card saw suspicious activity with my card after the Home Depot fiasco and they blocked the transaction. I was issued a new card and received it this weekend.

If you can, cancel your card and immediately get a new one.

How the fuck does a company allow this to happen after the Target fiasco so recently?

Hard to say, but fuck Borris and his hacking and fuck Home Depot!

I had a Home depot charge card which may or may not be active at this point. Home Depot is not releasing exactly what information was compromised at this point other that credit card numbers, (Fuck them for that) but because Borris was able to access their system, he may very well have some birth dates and Social Security numbers.

If that's the case, things could get a little western. As stated in the OP, take advantage of the free credit monitoring service that normally costs $14.95 a month compliments of Home Depot for a year. It still gravels my ass to no end that it happened, but that service could be helpful.

Why are people so freaked out when people steal your credit card number? It's just annoying. Mine has been stolen about 3-4 times. They just charge shit, I get an affidavit from my credit card company, I just sign it and indicate which charges I didn't do and I get everything refunded to me.

Umm because in this case the hacker may have gotten more than just a CC number. It would be nice if Home Depot would drop the smoke and mirror act and come out with full disclosure on what exactly was obtained from their system during the hack. A credit card number is one thing, but there is a good chance the hacker also obtained some SS numbers and birth dates in this case. If that's the case, it's a lot bigger deal.

It's possible that they don't even know how much was taken... :doh!:

Why Not?

Thankfully, there is no way the millions and millions of losses are passed on to the consumer. The CC institutions just take the loss over and over.
