View Full Version : Royals Who wants to start the Royals / A's game thread?

teedubya

Should we all nominate ourselves and then vote for the winner? And the winner creates the game thread?

Thoughts? Or do we have some random person start it whenever?

If you want to nominate yourself, do so below. We could have Rainman help with the poll, so it's legit.

Lester, over 13 career starts, has made an art of making the Royals his bitch. We counter this negative mojo with an epic rant, denouncing the entire Athletics organization. These fucksticks are really just an knock off of the Royals anyway, the prequels that ran down the crack of Lucas's ass and ended up as a stain on the sheets.

I will add that if gblowfish is the guy, then an epic rant is required. A lot of us don't know much about Charlie O or how painful losing the Kansas City A's was. Hell, most of us probably liked the A's in moneyball and were fine with the salute to the A's promotion that the Royals had.

If Blowfish starts the thread, part of his thread should include some kind of angry yaulp to the heavens or a manifesto about why we should dislike the green-clad team from the west coast.

I live in Des Moines :( I have additional expenses.

Seriously though, in the blessed, crazy, situation that we not only beat Oakland but also somehow get past the Angels, I will have seen most of that and seeing us play baseball against the Tigers or goofy orangebirds won't really compare. If we get to the world series, fine, thats huge, I'll make room for that, too.

The statistics that are generated by this game are not counted in the regular season statistics.

In 2014, Alex Gordon hit 19 home runs. If he homers Tuesday, years from now the statistics will still say that in 2014, he homered 19 times.

If this is not enough, then consider this: our game will be the only MLB game played or televised in the entire country. This has never been true since 1985. If we are triumphant or get killed by the A's at home, it will be witnessed by the entire nation, since they had nothing better to do than watch our nationally-televised game.

This is a playoff game. Anyone who says otherwise is a stupid moron.

LMAO

Doesn't matter what it's called, it just seems silly to change your playoff format twice (1 game series to 5 game series to 7 games), and sillier that after 162 relatively meaningless games, your postseason can end after one night in a sport where the best teams only win 60% of the time.

It's the postseason. Significant baseball in September is great and the format doesn't take away from what the Royals have done this season or any of the celebration, etc.... it's just, IMO, dumb that 'Blue October' could be done on September 30th and two teams won't even get to experience a playoff game at all (considering the format for every other round, of course).

The explanations in the game thread yesterday make sense... more baseball for more markets, division winners get time to rest, reset their rotation, etc.... but, I still think if you're going to do it, do it right and give them a series (I know that's a whole other discussion as far as cramming it all in before November and what not).

alnorth
09-29-2014, 11:12 AM

That is not possible. We are never going to allow the other playoff teams to be idle for an entire series.

Given that, the options are 2nd wild card and one game, or no playoff expansion, or something really stupid like 5 wild cards.

I think the next best option would be a 3 game series in one location in 3 consecutive days, because there's no great way to do a 3 or 5 game series without 2 travel days. 9/30, 10/1, 10/2, so you would be talking about an extra couple days at most.

You would have to at least schedule a double header. you can't take up 3 days in the postseason calendar.

The player's union and TV would obviously never go for that. A Wild Card series is not possible. We can either have this, only 4 playoff spots, or expand to 8 per league.

I think the next best option would be a 3 game series in one location in 3 consecutive days, because there's no great way to do a 3 or 5 game series without 2 travel days. 9/30, 10/1, 10/2, so you would be talking about an extra couple days at most.Nope, I like the one and done. You want to avoid a one and done game, win the division. It makes those 162 games matter more. It's still way too many games but thats never going to change. Way too much money being made to cut some games now.

But, it can be done from the wild card game. We did it in 2011. Why not the Royals? It's just a matter of getting hot and getting on a run in the playoffs.

I hope I bring good luck. There are no guarantees with the Royals, but you guys already know that.

When do you want the thread to post? You got the Royals karma to bring it home. Good luck man!

Also, FUCK but I am nervous about the game. I think we'll win, I just mean no Chiefs game has ever had me this nervous and I generally consider myself a much bigger Chiefs fan than Royals fan.

I can say this much. The Royals have never lost a playoff game thread I've started.

I started Game Five of the World Series back in 1985 on Chiefsplanet... that thread was purged though in the great database cleanse of 1992.

How annoying is it that the year the Royals finally get the wild card, it's the year they add a 2nd wild card and the choking A's get to come in with the 1 guy on the roster that should win every time he goes out? It's complete horseshit IMO.

Oh, and I vote George. I see it's already a done deal, but I'm getting my vote in anyways.

If they ever expand to 32 I hope they go back to 2 divisions each league with 4 wildcards. Division winners get the bye the rest have a play in game.
