New at Carl's Jr. and Hardee's, the Mile High Bacon Thickburger features thick-cut Applewood-smoked bacon, a 1/3- or 1/2-pound charbroiled Black Angus beef patty, American cheese, red onion, tomato, lettuce, and mayo, on a toasted fresh baked bun.

The burger is only available for a limited time at participating Carl's Jr. and Hardee's restaurants. The suggested retail price starts at $5.59 (may vary).

If you're angling to get it in a combo, there's a $1 off coupon on the Carl's Jr. website here and Hardee's website here.

The thick-cut Applewood-smoked bacon should be a marked improvement over Carl's Jr.'s standard bacon. Unfortunately, I contacted the company and it won't be replacing their regular bacon on the menu. Other than the bacon, the Mile High is the same as their Original Thickburger.

Not at all. But it's possible. Not the 1/2 pound variety, but I'd only want the 1/3 so the bacon would come through strong. I'd definitely, DEFINITELY get through 2 of them. I haven't eaten in about 11 hours. I may get into that 3rd. It is possible.

Had a 1/3 pounder the day before yesterday, and I gotta say it was excellent, the new fresh baked buns they're using are the best in fast food.

Why is the Hardee's version worse, if they are the same burger?

Hardee's has a half ounce extra something in it. Bread, cheese, bacon, I'm not sure, but I assume it's bacon considering the calories and the fat grams.

What makes this otherwise ordinary bacon cheeseburger 'Mile High?'

Doesn't even look like they so much as sprinkle some spices in the mayo, or pepper the bacon, or anything.

I wonder if there's something about the states they're sold in that makes them measure it differently for some reason.

That's as many calories as I eat most days. The fat calories are incredible.

Do you weigh 80 pounds? It takes about 15 calories per day to maintain one pound of weight. The 2000 calorie per day guideline is for a woman weighing 130 pounds. If you seriously eat 1100 calories per day your body is starving... unless you weigh 80 pounds.

As for the burger, maybe when I was young and invincible. Now, my stomach flips just looking at it.

185. I eat around 1500 calories a day most days. When my body tells me I need a big steak or a shrimp and lobster feeding I do it. I feel sluggish if I eat too much and I like to stay active.
I also take in more calories from booze than the average bear.

That's kinda funny and all. But angus is a species of cattle, not a cut of beef. Explaining that would probably be a more effective commercial than making a joke.

The whole "Black Angus" term is pretty meaningless the way it's used. It's a misused/misunderstood marketing term. It has nothing to do with beef quality at all, only the designation of species. Even Certified Angus Beef doesn't refer to the quality in any way. It's a registered trademark and not a beef quality measure. You can still have quality graded Angus just like any other species of beef. But that's a completely separate thing. An Angus or CAB stamp on its own is meaningless outside of designating the species. You can have the absolute worst grade of beef possible, barely fit for human consumption, and still call it Black Angus.

If you order a 1/2-lb the way I would - no mayo and no bun - it drops to 740 calories with 53 g of fat. Still high but better. The bun is almost 300 calories. That seems odd.

Eh. I just think of that commercial every time I see "angus burger".

Arc, that's really about right for a bun, actually. Too much bread isn't good. Best to only do bread about once per week, IMO.
