This Ducks team isn't a contender. The O line can't protect Mariota with both OT's out for the season and no real backup. I was disappointed in the D in this last game as well. I hate to say it but you can put a fork in them now. This doesn't reflect badly on Mariota though. I would love to have him in KC.

Mariota is fine. Not his fault that his OL is one of the worst in college football right now. His defense has been struggling too.

Those 2 fumbles were his first turn overs of the season, he hasn't even thrown an INT yet.

I'm all for taking Mariota if he magically slips into the teens-early 20s (where we'll probably be picking), but we have way too many holes on this team to be reaching for a QB prospect in the 1st 3 rounds in the next draft. Smith will be good for at least another 5 years, we have plenty of time before we have to find a replacement.

I would have no problem with taking a QB in the first round if he was truly an amazing talent. I don't like how most teams under value the backup QB spot. Look at the Rams. Wazzu has the same problem Oregon State does. It's a smaller school in the middle of nowhere. It's tough to recruit the top guys consistently, especially recruiting against some of the more powerhouse teams.

We can hope the schools are consistently good but I don't think either will ever rise to be a contender.
