View Full Version : Life Who here shaves their heads?

Fire Me Boy!
10-16-2014, 11:59 AM
I saw the back of my head in a convenience store's security camera and it's getting thinner than I'm comfortable with. So I embraced it and shaved it.

Looking for tips, tricks, etc. for getting a really smooth shave and keeping burn and bumps to a minimum.

Thanks in advance.

You should try some Rogain and head and shoulders.

kinda giggled when I read "coochie cream". then I remembered my son left a tube of stuff he shaves with called "man jack" in my shower a couple weeks ago. I think I'd just as soon use the coochie cream.

I have thinning hair as well. Just like you seeing the back of your head from a camera, I was video taping with a tripod(back in the day) my daughters birthday. I was helping her unwrap the gifts. I reviewed the tape and thought "who is that fat bald dude"?

I have, but don't care for the total chrome dome. When I can grab some hair and pull a bit, time to break out the shears. Get a "Wahl" brand shear set. I normally use the shortest clip-on thingie (green ~.5mm?) and blaze away. It leaves a little thicker then a 5:00 shadow. I do it once a month.

One other thing to think about. Do you have the nice type of pate that will look good with little hair. Some people do not. Ask the wife. My wife commented, after seeing an army picture of me shaved, "You look good bald". Thusly, I was blessed.

If you are going to for the shine, there is a "finger" blade. I don't know the proper term. It's a ring like sleeve that you slide on a finger with a blade running length wise on the underside. Hop in the shower, lather the head, then stroke like you were combing your hair.

Obligatory old joke:

There once was a blonde who went to the Dr. and complained about her husband having really bad dandruff. The Dr. told her to give him some head and shoulders.

A week passed and the blonde showed back up at the doctor's office.

"Can I help you?" the doctor asked.

"Yes, I've been racking my brains but have no idea how to give shoulders."

Feel free to neg rep at will.

Yeah, I trimmed to 1/4-inch a couple weeks ago as an interim step to see if I had the right-shaped noggin. The barber said I did, and once shaved I agree. The wife likes it, I like it. So it's a win.

Hot shower, at least 60 seconds of continuous hot water on the head, wash and rinse the scalp, lather up with shaving cream ....then most importantly grab your Mach 3 razor blades (I swear by these) . Shave against the grain and I promise your head will come out squeaky clean

I'm as smooth as a dolphin up there. I did it about five years ago, and it's far preferable to having the little monk fringe that fate cruelly dealt me. It's more stylin' and much easier to walk in rain. The only downside is that a hat is absolutely necessary in both sun and in cold weather.

The weather down here in Alabama has just started to turn on the border of a bit chilly in the early mornings, and that's one of the first things I noticed. Felt a little brisk up there after I shaved.

Definitely! Unfortunately for me, it was when I was 25. I realized it was never gonna get any better. I didn't want to be one of those guys that look like a clown. It starts to get like this in your 30's....

Then, you are down to this by your late 30's - early 40's...

Until finally, you realize it's time to just go with this, and be done with it...

The transition is easy and actually liberating, but it really helps if you have a good looking noggin to pull it off. Just takes a few minutes with Wahl or ConAir clippers.. no attachments needed. Works well with a constant 3-5 day beard.

On a serious note, I don't understand why I'm not almost bald.

My cousin has entered that zone of "holy shit you have hair but you would look better without hair." He and I are the same age. They say baldness is hereditary on the mother's side, so, since he and I share similar genetics on the mother's side...shouldn't I be going bald? My grandpa was also practically bald by my age.

I'm bald, fat, and have a full beard, thankyouverymuch. :harumph:

Did you forget what forum you're on? If not you're doing it wrong.

It's very fine and wispy, but it's always been that way. That's why I use product.

That's exactly how my hair was even before it started thinning. If I didnt use product it woud look all gay and fluffy. I wore hats a lot, too lazy to mess with it all the time and I hate hats.

I saw the back of my head in a convenience store's security camera and it's getting thinner than I'm comfortable with. So I embraced it and shaved it.

Looking for tips, tricks, etc. for getting a really smooth shave and keeping burn and bumps to a minimum.

Thanks in advance.

Haha, that's similar to what happened to me. I went swimming with dolphins on vacation and saw the overhead video and was like, "What?! Is that what my head looks like?!" I've been shaving it ever since.

As for keeping burn and bumps to a minimum, this stuff is the best. I've tried a million different kinds of creams and gels because I'm prone to razor bumps, and this is by far the best I've ever used.

Are you in your early to mid 30's yet? If not you're probably going to be in for a big disappointment soon.

The trick is to start the Rogain, or implants, now. Do this in sync with your hair loss so no one notices any difference. It's a tricky bitch, I'm sure.

I have a full head of beautiful hair. It's a sign of virility. I'll keep my hair, so women can run their fingers through it.

The only thing I really miss about not having hair is not having women run their fingers through it. In my case, it's pretty much one woman, but you get the drift. It always felt good.

I didn't know that Rogaine was an over the counter deal now. I was at the grocery store and saw a guy self-checking a big container of it. It seems like it should be more of a prescription thing.

The dudes who market that as a cure should be in jail. I'd go with that shit in a spray can as a better alternative. Yeah, that shit.

Same here, if I let it grow. I clip it because its more convenient. I'm 44.

I am going to stop posting here, as a 49 year old man with glorious hair, lest I wake up tomorrow bald, but smarter. Which wouldn't be a bad trade off if it were not for my horrendously shaped head. God knows that would look horrible and, up to the point, has cut me some slack.

My hair, grown out, rivals Leif Garret back in the day. Frampton too.

I'm 46 and still have hair, although it is turning grey. I use clippers with guards, 3/4" on top, 1/4" on the sides and cut my own hair every other week. I use hair gel and blow dry, no beard.

I'm cursed with a full head of hair into my 50s. I use gel, and have been using shit since today's gel was the mousse! And if I don't, it's just wrong! Getting sick of telling the haircut ladies they need to do a scissor cut and thin it! It's in the fucking computer, I'm not new, and I'm there every 3-4 weeks! They love my hair, but forget it as soon as I walk out!

Get the lady's hair color. Mix it up, rub it in, let stand as per directions (20ish minutes), rinse in shower. Extra dose for those gray side-burns. Apply there first

I started turning grey at 19..I keep my hair short enough it is hard to tell..but girls tell me they like it when it's longer

If someone doesn't turn that last sentence into a joke I will be disappointed..set that up beautifully

I've been shaving my head for 14 years. It's like going commando. Free Willy.

I use an electric clippers (like what they use on your neck in the barber shop) but without any attachments and the blade set all the way down to zero. I do it every other day.

You'll love it.

Just don't grow a goatee.

So what are you saying?

I'm sure it would. The ATX is designed for use other than head.

The little samples of stuff they send - some good products. The shave cream and exfoliator are really nice.

The only downside to head shaving is at least for me I can't go back.

I have tried a couple times to stop and I can't stand it, stuck with shaved head the rest of my life.

The shave cream - called Headblade Slick - is super nice. And the exfoliator - called Headblade Shed - uses ground up walnut shells as the scrubbing stuff, also super nice.
