Seven game series. 2014 Royals are playing in the series like they are now, for all we know.

Who wins?

1985 Royals win

The 1985 Royals were considered pretty weak offensively.
They look like the 1927 Yankees compared to the 2014 Royals.

Not sure I'd agree with that.

1985 Team had better power by a long shot, but really didn't score much more than the 2014 team (0.2 more runs per game, which is nothing). The 2014 team has a better batting average by about 10 pts, a similar OBP, and a marked lower SLG and OPS, primarily due to the HR differential. Also, the 1985 team had 49 triples, primarily due to the artificial turf combined with the cavernous ball park (Willie Wilson had 21 triples that year  )

The pitching was about a wash. The Royals top of the rotation was far superior in 1985 with Sabes and Leibrandt. The 2014 Bullpen absolutely runs circles around what they had in '85, even with Quiz. The big difference is that your closer generally went more than one inning - Quiz averaged 1.5 innings per game that he entered. Now, our back end goes one inning.

The total team speed is better on the 2014 team. In '85, 2 guys (Wilson and Lonnie Smith) made up 65% of the 128 SB's on that team. In 2014, 3 guys comprise 62% of the overall 153 SB's.

I'd say it would be a damn good series, and I'd have no idea who would win.

“But this group is different. This group is really talented. I’m telling you, these guys are more talented than we were in 1985.”

Wait.

What?

“I mean that,” Brett says. “Let’s go around, position by position.”

LMAO

But seriously, it would be too close to predict, imo.

162 games only playing each other the 1985 team without a doubt. But the 1985 team never had a hot streak like this 2014 team has going so in a 7 game series the way these kids are playing I'd give them a slight edge.

85 team wins in a full 7 game series
4 games to 3
/because Brett

Every game would be like 2-1

85 team the starting staff is better, but the 14 team the bullpen is better

A moot point, but I actually thought the 1980 Royals were better than the 1985 Royals. It just didn't happen for them in 1980, Willie Wilson had a terrible series, one thing I can remember.
