http://sports.yahoo.com/news/british-government-wants-nfl-team-london-173341205--nfl.html

George Osborne, the British treasury chief, told the Evening Standard newspaper on Wednesday that the government will do whatever it can ''to make this happen.''

Thoughts? The NFL has been really pushing this, they want the money.

such a fucking stupid idea. Travel logistics alone put this potential team behind the 8 ball.

They'd have to fundamentally change how the game is scheduled. I wouldn't be surprised if the London team played 4-6 home games at a time and the league instituted a second bye week to account for the jet lag.

Maybe Roger is just super pissed at Europe for pushing soccer in the U.S and is fighting for Merica and freedom by putting an NFL team right in their backyard. ..showing them what real "Futbal" is..giving them the middle finger and planting our sports "way of life" flag right in the heart of soccer country. ..True fucking American.

yeah so American football evolved from rugby, which has been giving soccer the middle finger for about 150 years. But come on over anyways :thumb::thumb:

Will it make money? Then Roger Goodell would do it. Nevermind that it ruins the entire integrity of the game. This is the one move that might actually get me to stop watching football. Basically every team that travels there has a huge disadvantage that week and the week following. Every home team that plays an English team has a huge advantage. So stupid.

Not saying I agree with the NFL in the UK but in lots of other sports teams play one-off games in different time zones, international and european club soccer being a good example.

The NFL has their one off game there. I already think that's stupid considering the importance of home field advantage and the nfls already shortened schedule. Much different story when 16 teams are impacted versus 2.

I don't like the idea. I don't even like the games they take over there in the current format. It just seems like it screws up the rhythum of the schedule and puts teams at a disadvantage. I would think the players hate it.

It's all downhill from here.. all thanks to the insatiable greed of the owners.

You are such a fucking apologist for the NFL.

No, I don't think the resentment for the NFL in the 90s even close to parallels the growing resentment in today's age. The rule changes have accelerated.

The league shouldn't have expanded to 32 teams. Makes for nice and easy scheduling, sure.. But there aren't enough quarterbacks being minted by colleges.

And this is compounded by the sheer idiocy of illegal contact and defensive holding penalties.

FloridaMan88

JFC, the NFL is really trying to destroy itself.

The funny thing is the NFL is obsessed with expanding internationally by going to the capital of a country (the UK) that has negative population growth and a stagnant economy.

The 90's featured Super Bowl appearances by Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, Stan Humphries, Chris Chandler, and Neil O'Donnell. I wouldn't get too carried away.

Meh, I might agree that age makes you partial to certain eras of football, but the 90s were the last time the game was true to the sport and "balance" instead of trying to grow/market the sport to, well, others and high scoring.

For me the 90s were the last point in time when defense wasn't totally fucked-over by "the (new) rules", so while the athletes have improved with each era, the rules - geared towards the need/desire for basketball'ish scores (and officiating that fully supports said scores!) - it's become less appealing.

Real football actually died around 2004-2005. That's when Peyton Manning and Indy bitched about NE molesting their WR's.

After that illegal contact and defensive holding started to take over.

You're prolly right, but I'm good with saying "the 90s" were the last great years. If the reality is that it actually lasted until 2004-2005, that's cool...

But 1999's football was, in my opinion, better than 2014 football BY FAR. And I'm part of that "1970s" group. I love me some Jamal Charles, but I liked Earl Campbell and Christian Okoye more....

Chiefs seem to , maybe, be turning the corner (again!!), but I'm not sure they've figured out that WRs (because defending them is now illegal), a QB with God-like brains and accuracy, and an O-line that's awesome is where it starts. But it's hard to find a Manning, it really is.. But if you find a Manning-like QB and not-stupid WRs, there's the 49 points you'll need to win a modern day game! After that it's defense where you have to get creative and a bit lucky.

Smith is a little less Manning-like than I'd like (so says all other 31 teams in the NFL!!!), and our WRs are fucking JOKE compared to what the need/should be. Our defense is coming around (I think), but I can't argue with their relative success this year. And can't really explain their relative success either. Who cares, they're good enough (so far). But again, our WR group is just gay, and they suck hair monkey balls compared to what they should be! Let's hope they get Alex somebody other that stone-hands Bowe so we can find out how Manning-like he can/could be.

Sweet Daddy Hate
11-08-2014, 11:14 PM
I agree, Smith definitely has worked well with what he's got. Chiefs should draft him a great or even above average wr. Manning would definitely have a lot better competition in the west if the Chiefs get Alex some better weapons

They'll draft at least one prospect and make another play for a vet.

This is why I see Bowe staying now. I don't see Alex wanting to start 3 rookie receivers, even if they were the living clones of Megatron.

And yes, I'd wager he DOES in fact get some kind of say in that arrangement.
