I already expressed that I was "in" in the other thread.

Do I have to go back there and say "out" and re-state "in" for this one? I can't be "in" in two places, obviously and I'm not sure which is the official GDT. Not a good way to start out the biggest game in 29 years.
Very confusing.

posturing to make them think they know something they don't. LMAO

I hope so. He said it occurred the 2nd time through the line up in game 2 when they started sitting on his fastball.

Top of the 4th:
P Sandoval doubled to deep center.
H Pence grounded out to shortstop.
B Belt doubled to deep right, P Sandoval scored.

Could be something to it, if so, hopefully he made some adjustments during his bullpen.

If they really did, no one outside that locker room would know about it. At least not this year, the next time Ventura and one of the current Giants were on the same team, thats the only time it would ever even be known to Ventura, much less Buster Olney.

Yeah, my bad on my original post as I had heard the interview during my commute into work. I just re-listened to the interview on the 810 podcast and Olney was just speculating that the Giants had picked something up from Ventura based on their abs the 2nd time through and from what he's heard from "different pitchers with other teams" that Ventura "gives away his curveball" with his tempo on the mound.

He didn't hear anything from the Giants.

When I was comparing the teams before the series, I saw a lot of similarities. Tough-minded, grind-it-out teams with great back-end bullpens, good starting pitchers, and hitters that don't strike out much while making pitchers and defenses work.

Starting pitchers in relief roles don't generally scare me. You get them out of their normal element, and they aren't the same pitcher. That's not across the board 100% true, but it happens quite a bit. Facing MadBum in a relief role on on 2 days rest? Yes please.

MadBum will be available out of the bullpen. I think everyone will be on a very short leash moving forward. I think that applies to both teams most likely with all the rested arms.

Yeah. Just glad, as a Royals fan, he's limited to a few innings out of the pen rather than another start.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ventura. But Guthrie's been nails.

Reaper16
10-28-2014, 02:03 PM
Not based on Post Season Stats

Not every stat. Guthrie didn't K anyone last time out, which suggests a bit of bad BABIP luck for the Giants that game (luck which turned way way way good for the Giants in the next two games). Not that I'm really talking about luck here. I'm talking about the Giants' approach at the plate being consistent this series: making as much contact as possible; short swings; not even trying for extra base hits on 2 strikes. That same approach that got to Vargas and slaughtered Finnegan & and ate up a not-warmed-up Wade Davis was used against Guthrie, only balls found their way into gloves.

Which is to say, I have faith that Guthrie will command the ball and will pitch with grit. But that's not as likely to be effective as stuff that makes hitters miss.

I want nothing more than to win tonight, and then win tomorrow...

but I am not going to be angry about anything the next two days

win or lose, I'm proud to be a Royals fan

I realized that one of the main reasons I want Kansas City teams to win a championship is so that other people will be forced to acknowledge where I'm from with a little bit of respect. So that people will be forced to think about this flyover city. So that the city & all of us fans by extension will matter - to the nation & to history.

How often do we think of the '08 Rays? The '07 Rockies (apart from the recent sweep streak comparisons)? The '98 Padres? Name three players on the 2000 Mets; I can't. In a few years how often will we think about the '10 & '11 Rangers? I desperately want this Royals team to be remembered by history.

BUT. WITH THAT SAID. Maybe what matters the most is what we, the Royals fans, remember. Maybe what matters most are the memories & stories that we'll share with each other, that we'll share with our children & grandchildren. And whether the Royals win or lose this World Series, no one can ever take from us the memories of this team. No one can ever take away how much this postseason meant to all of us.

I can't lie here. 2nd place is my least favorite thing, for reasons that aren't entirely related to sports. I can't pretend that a loss won't leave me utterly crushed, perhaps in a deeper way than I've ever been before. But maybe I recover sooner than I think. Maybe my ability to grab a drink with anyone of you motherfuckers & talk about those 7 stolen bases in the Wild Card game is enough. Maybe these permanent memories are enough. With that perspective, whatever happens in this next game, or the possible one after that...it's all gravy. Bonus. Extra. We've already won something. We've already added an AL pennant that will fly forever. And maybe I can convince myself here that at this point the Royals actually have nothing to lose.

lcarus

EITHER WAY

You'll never convince me starting your ace 1, 5 and pitching him 2 innings in relief in the 7th is smarter than 1, 4 and 7 if you have a TRUE, ELITE, MLB ace.

Presuming he would be just as effective, of course not.

He's never pitched on short rest before, so the Giants settled for the 2 near-guarantees.

2003 - Josh Beckett, Did the Marlins have Pudge?, Cliff Floyd?
2004 - David Ortiz, Manny, Curt Schilling
2005 - Paul Korenko, Bobby Jenks,
2006 - Pujols, Wainwright, Carpenter
2007 - David Ortiz, Manny, Curt Schilling
2008 - Howard, Rollins, Hamels

2010 - Lincecum, Posey, Cain

well, can't say it didn't work

Just talking to my son about how Esky missed some grounders because the ball didn't come up because of the over wet dirt in SF, and the SF SS have a couple of problems in KC because the ball came up on him. Makes you wonder.
