I am likely headed to Estonia in 4 weeks to get my E-Residency (https://e-estonia.com/e-residents/e-residency/). I'll be in Tallinn (the capital) for 17 days. I know quite a bit about the area already but would appreciate any first hand knowledge you guys may have.

So far I thinking of staying in Tallinn most of the time except for a possible 2 day trip to Helsinki and maybe scheduling a 20 hour layover in Moscow on my way back. (works out that I save $300 on my flight if I do this, which will offset the cost of a Russian transit visa ... so why not)

I have never been there but it interests me. I've done some internet searches and the Estonian black bread looks delicious, so if I were going to be there, I'd be sure to buy some and have it with a nice brew and some cheese.

My friend over in Denmark who owns the Irish House has a girlfriend from Estonia and she is hot! Their women are remarkable.

You're thinking of "In The Army Now", starring Paulie Shore and Andy Cock.

I almost went to Lithuania a few years back. There were some packages of airfares and spas that were ludicrously cheap. This was before airfares went up dramatically, but you could do roundtrip airfare and a week in a spa (with lodging and I think food) for something like $900. I really should have done it.

I don't know if stuff like that still happens, but you might check out spa packages to get a good deal with a massage every day. (I'm of course assuming that Estonia and Lithuania are identical, because ... I'm American.)

I was thinking of the movie Encino Man, Pauly Shore said the caveman guy was from Estonia.

Yowsers, no spa packages that cheap anymore! (at least none I could find)

I am avoiding the spa/hotel scene and getting an apartment in the Old Town. Same price and much roomier with a full kitchen. I'll be working while there, so it makes a bit more sense.

I'm horrendous at remembering to take pics of PEOPLE. I remember buildings, landscapes, cats, etc... but for some reason my pics look like they are from a post zombie apocalypse... no people in them. But I'll do my best this time!

So, I am definitely going Feb 11th -March 1st.. and I just found out the day will only be 9 hours long when I get there. Sunrise at 8am and Sunset at 5pm If I go back in July that changes to Sunrise at 4:10am and Sunset at 10:40pm!

My apartment is on the 3rd floor of this building... above two of the popular bars.

no clue if the city shuts down in the winter though... may be just me drinking Glögg with the staff.

My company has an office there, and it's a great trip....this isn't an ideal time of year, though (obviously).

Go back for summer days at the summer solstice.....get a few days where the sun doesn't really set and it's a crazy party.

Is it a popular vacation spot.

It is and it isn't. Apparently it is not popular at all in February(no big surprise) but is a HUGE destination in the summer. Tallinn's (the capital where I am) Old Town is a UNESCO world heritage site and is ridiculously gorgeous. So, you get a ton of Finns who come here for the cheap booze and same for Brits and other Europeans, from what I gather they don't get a ton of Americans.

HA, yeah English is the "go to" language here. They have a large number of tourists and ethnic Russians so Estonian isn't very practical and they sure as hell don't want to use Russian more than they have to... so English it is.

It's funny to hear people with thick accents walking around speaking English amongst themselves.

Well, I'll report back on how tonight goes, it is 11pm here and I just walked out and about to see what's going on and everyplace is dead because it is too early. Nightlife picks up around 11:30 to midnight and goes until 4,5 or even 6am

I have, it's good but it's just bread. Got me a loaf and in typical American style I made up a batch of homemade Ranch dipping sauce and ate it that way! :D

Speaking of Ranch, Hidden Valley is living up to its name around here. Nothing close in the grocery stores.
