While visiting with our friends at 104.3 The Fan in Denver earlier this morning, Fan Morning Show co-host Nate Lundy reported during the segment that Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase has agreed to become (https://twitter.com/natelundy/status/555362116367290368) the next coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

And so as soon as the segment ended, I started searching for confirmation. I was told promptly by a source with knowledge of the situation that Gase has not yet agreed to terms (https://twitter.com/ProFootballTalk/status/555364703359500288). Per the source, terms haven’t even been discussed much less agreed to.

But the source said that it’s moving in the direction of Gase getting the job. Until he has it, of course, the Broncos can try to keep him around by promoting him. (First, they’d have to interview at least one minority candidate for the job.)

The speed with which the Broncos move (or don’t move) now that San Francisco’s interest in Gase is clear will say plenty about whether the Broncos really want Gase to take over the team. It’s possible that the Broncos hope the 49ers will hire Gase before the Broncos have to pass on him, since passing on Gase could be the thing that prompts quarterback Peyton Manning (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1493/peyton-manning) to call it quits.

Either way, Gase apparently will be coaching one of the two perennial contenders whose front offices recently have been unable to fully appreciate the importance of having and keeping a good coach around.

Eh, the title itself was refuted almost immediately. The OP included no link, no support, so the best we can do is find a sports reporter none of us have ever heard of who tweeted it, and the very first response was a credible reporter denying it. Was pretty clearly false. My reason for calling it out was so many thoughtful responses being posted as if it was a "done deal" when it seemed pretty much like a hoax where somebody gave false info to a nobody reporter.

Nah, still here. I slowed way down when my first son was born. Then another son was born a couple years later and I was kind of in a different world. But as they've grown older I have steadily returned to posting. When I changed names I tried to make it less hard to decipher by keeping the Exploding Dog stickman avatar. Maybe it was less obvious than I thought, though.
