On Saturday, my entire department was asked to go to a off-campus satellite office to help another department (technically part of our company, but a complete different branch) who was in dire need of help. Only half our department showed, but the rest of us worked hard to get things done. The supervisor took note of my leadership and skill with their computer systems and took me aside and asked me to apply for a job she has open. She recognized my name from a job I had applied to previously (about 2 years ago), and anyway, we really hit it off.

This would be a major promotion within the company and would come with a significant pay increase.

I just finished updating my resume and going through the application process. Tomorrow I will finish the work she had expected us to finish by about Friday or Saturday.

I'm very excited. Wish me luck.

Go Chargers.

Edit: I got the job.

I really do hope you get it, bud. I think I remember the last job you mentioned.

I think the last one I posted about was for a promotion within my dept that I didn't get. I had been in the dept for about 20 months and the job went to someone with 10+ years experience. If I were to land this opportunity it would be a step above that position I didn't get.

In-house timeshare sales. Basically selling more timeshare to existing owners. I've busted my ass for 5 years to get this opportunity. I'm excited, yet nervous enough I can puke at any given time. I've never been close to this kind of money. 150-300 is the range I'm looking at this year, and the timing is perfect. The people who raised me are now retired and it's my turn to help them and I Thank God every day for the opportunity I now have to do that. Failure is not an option.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Sorry Buck, didn't want to start my own thread.

A 2nd interview for my last job meant that they narrowed it down to two candidates and needed to get some more information or they feel that they didn't get the answers they were looking for.

Huge!

You made the past the hardest round...the first cut.

Just be yourself. think through the answers. and don't blow smoke.

2nd and 3rd round...is usually more about how you will mesh with the team more than your technical skills.

Nice - that's definitely a good sign. You'll find that, in many cases, the higher-level the job is, the more steps that may be involved in getting the job. As frustrating as it may be to keep putting time into it without knowing if you're hired, every step you make it through means that you're competing with fewer people.

Good luck with interview #2!

Unless it will make a huge difference in your overall financial situation, I'd still walk for the new job (assuming it has more long-term prospects). Money isn't everything, so look for something you'll enjoy long-term and has some upward mobility rather than settling for a bigger paycheck to stay put for the foreseeable future.

And regardless, do your best with interview #2 so that you have the leverage to make the choice yourself. :)

Then she left and I sat in a room for 20 minutes by myself and then the lady who interviewed me on Monday came in and offered me the job on the spot.

Heh, her mind was made up.

I accepted it. They offered me more than I asked for, and it's a promotion, even if my current position decided to pay me more.

That's rare in a lot of cases. Don't forget that dedication they had to get you, and make you happy. That's a great company right there. Almost the same as saying you're worth more than that to us! How great does that feel?

Does this mean you can get fellow cp members free vacations if we agree to listen to your pitch? You been holding out on us?

I've offered it before. Now though, I'm working for the best company in the industry. One who's product I'm purchasing myself. They're not free vacations, but they are heavily discounted stays with gifts included in return for 2 hours of your time to see our presentation of what our product can do to enhance your families vacations infinitely. I'm actually buying this one myself.

The only bummer is that to get the full array of benefits offered I'll have to buy it direct. Can't buy 3rd party with these guys and get all the goodies. Luckily I do get an employee discount. You wouldn't actually be with me though. I'm in a position where I only talk with people who own our product and encourage them to purchase more.
