I was at a wedding a few months ago in downtown KC, after the reception got out me and a few friends decided yo cab it over to the casino. The bell hop at our hotel wouldn't call us a cab to the Isle of Capri. Lol. He recommend the Argosy instead.

I've been to the Isle a million times, I know it's on the edge of the hood but damn, has it gotten bad?

I go in there frequently and have never once gotten a bad vibe. At all. Is the place colorful? More so than any other casino in town I'd wager, but that shit doesn't remotely bother me.

I don't mind it, I just live in Lawrence and mainly play poker.. So I have no reason to venture past Hollywood for casino times.

Personally I do my best to gamble at Harrah's properties only, their comps program is second to none imo.

It's a 3 and a half hour drive for us. For that I'm staying at least a couple of days. We stay at harrah's for free every time. Well, I wouldn't call them free, but you know what I'm sayin. Rooms are unimpressive unless you get the executive suites, but the only cost too me is the gas and the gambling. I don't remember the last time I paid for food there. Between the Diamond Lounge and the steak dinners, it's a bargain.

Without question. Hollywood is my secondary but the lion's share goes to harrah's. It's not just the comps either, they treat us like royalty. Anytime I want to go to Vegas I've got my pick of almost any room in town (harrah's property obviously) for 5 nights at zero cost.

Not anything specific. I went up in the liberty memorial tower and realized there is probably a lot of cool shit around town that I haven't done yet. I also went and visited the scout statue that I've seen on tv hundreds of times but had never looked at in person.

I just wanted to get a list of stuff that we might take for granted but should be checked out. I hope to visit kaw point sometime.

I will try to update the OP with some of the great suggestions so far

Nice I want to check out the Kaw Point too. There's a really cool of the West Bottoms/Northland from 8th and Jefferson?

Sorry I misrepresented that half the airfare is from my Southwest points, the rest is on Harrah's.

If they're paying half, that's still pretty awesome. I'm a harrah's fan boy.

Actually one of the home games this year is in London so parking will be $34 this year to make up for lost revenue

I think there is a trail by the Missouri river north of the river market but it's somewhat hard to find

Riverfront heritage trail maybe

nice, going to be checking that out next time I'm in town

Some of my local topeka riders have recommended that trail as well. Sounds like we have a plan in place already.:thumb:

Some good things listed in this thread...the succotash recommendation is a great one and someone mentioned Alamo and Flying Saucer both solid.

Nelson Atkins is a great time and free. Westport is really great now no matter what the suburbanites tell you all kinds of great places to grab a few drinks or some good Beer Kitchen is great for both. You can't beat getting a late night double cheese burger with a fried egg on it at Town Topic in midtown.

Alot of guys have mentioned Knuckleheads here and it is a must see. If you want a nice dinner Rieger Hotel and Exchange is pretty awesome...pricey but good and not outlandish money wise. I had a steak some soup and a drink there the other day for 55 before tip.

If you are a night owl and like Jazz a 1am trip to Mutual Musicians is always perfect. Vietnam Cafe in Columbus Park is a must go if that is your thing.

Sorry this is a really random collection of KC ideas I kept writing and thinking of more things.

Had some friends who got a free trip and room to Laughlin, they rented a car and drove into vegas from there after checking into the hotel and got a cheap room in Vegas.

I've thought about that, but harrah's won't give me a room in Vegas while I'm supposedly in Laughlin, and while I know I can get a cheap room in Vegas, the biggest perk to me is the comped nights in a suite almost of my choosing. We did 5 nights at the Rio and it was great. 33rd floor and great views. We're doing the strip next time and I'm considering a suite at Caeser's Palace. The cost of those rooms would be almost a grand, possibly more. I'd rather pay for the flight because I literally don't have to pay for anything else. I can eat for free and am not required to gamble for free booze with my Diamond card.

As a guy that grew up in the suburbs and heard all the stories, I'd like to cosign on this. You're missing out if you are afraid of crime happening to you. KC has some amazing things to do in parts of town some are too scared to go into. Chances are, no one is going to try and make you the next knockout game victim. I've literally never been fucked with anywhere there. And I'm a social butterfly that talks to complete strangers frequently. Drives my wife nuts.
