http://overthecap.com/eagles-trade-mccoy-bills-alonso/

This move is a major win for the Eagles. McCoy was set to count against the Eagles cap at $11.95 million while earning a $10.25 million salary. Neither number should ever occur for a running back in today’s NFL and it is possible that McCoy would have been released had he refused a pay cut. If the Eagles had released him they would have owed McCoy $1 million, the amount of his salary that was guaranteed for the year. Instead they get a young linebacker in return who will earn $795,946 for the season. This will clear about $7.75 million from the Eagles salary cap this season.

For the Bills they will now take on $10.25 million in cap and cash obligations for McCoy, essentially eating up 1/3 of their projected cap room. One would expect the Bills to immediately rework his contract for more cap relief. McCoy has three years remaining on his contract. He will earn a total of $15 million in the final two years of his contract, though none of that is guaranteed. I would expect the team to add two more seasons to the deal to maximize the cap savings.

It is a large price to pay for a running back especially one who struggled at times in two of the last three seasons when his offensive line played poorly. The Bills offensive line is a trouble spot for the team and they will need to upgrade significantly to make this work. The Bills declined usin the franchise tag on pass rusher Jerry Hughes, which may have been an indication that the money was needed for the offense. The team already signed Richie Incognito to play guard, but arguably need three more lineman to allow the running game to excel.

The move will likely mark the end of CJ Spillers career with the Bills and could spell the end of veteran Fred Jackson’s. Releasing Jackson would save the team $2.7M in cap room. Spiller is a free agent.

No trade can be made official until the first day of the NFL League Year so its possible that the trade could never happen if someone gets cold feet, but it sure sounds like it will happen. The Eagles will have well over $40 million in cap space to use to improve the team and should be expected to be a big player in free agency.

Eagles made a good trade here. I was very high on Kiko when he came out of Oregon and he TORE the league up his rookie year. He will be back in form and be a highly productive inside linebacker. Meanwhile LeSean McCoy is a heavy east-west runner who dances in the back field more than any running back you will watch. In my book he has always been overrated.

The keys to football are an ELITE offensive line and an ELITE defensive front seven. The Eagles improved their front seven.

For the Bills, they get a RB that will fit the style of play they are aiming for. They already have one of the leagues best defenses so Kiko became expendable.

Win-win for both side.

However this should mean Jeremy Maclin will WALK away from Philadelphia along with any other Reid drafted player from that team. Kelly has his own agenda and plan and is doing it his way. It will either work and he will look like a genius or he will be back in college two years from now.

I say KC trades Houston and Smith along with a first rounder this year and the next to Tennessee to get the #2 overall pick this year. Tennessee gets a serviceable QB that gives them a chance to compete in the AFC South and solves their pass rushing problem,

KC then deals the #2 to Philly for the 2015 and 2016 Philadelphia first round picks along with Nick Foles a conditional 2016 pick.

Chip gets Mariota, Reid gets Foles back, KC clears some cap room..?

The Eagles and the Bills unleashed a bombshell trade on Tuesday when NFL Media columinst Michael Silver reported that running back LeSean McCoy will be sent to Buffalo for linebacker Kiko Alonso. The trade won't be official until March 10, but players and the media around the league have already reacted on Twitter.

Good deal for both teams. No losers.

Rex likes a good ground game and doesn't have a QB to air it out. McCoy gives him a big weapon. Plus they will likely restructure his deal. The Bills D didn't miss not having Alonso last year.

Philly gets some cap room and potential excellent LB. With the $ they can pursue another RB and Maclin.

Yeah, I think the Iggles got the better of this deal. Reports are that they were getting ready to cut him due to his sick cap number, called around to see if anyone was interested, and the Bills jumped.

Obviously if McCoy stays what he has been for several more years, it could work out well for Rex, but he's tied with the most touches for any RB (with Forte) over the last five years, and someone (PFF?) had him as significantly less effective last year even after adjusting for the significant line problems the Eagles had.

The guy the Bills gave up was ranked as one of the best pass defending LBs during his rookie year. Those guys can be pretty tough to get.

It all depends on McCoy's health, really.

In the last 24 hours the Eagles shed 3 of their 4 highest paid players, and over $20MM in cap woes.

When we got Allen he was no longer a "feature back."

He never broke 900 yards and averaged around 14-15 touches a game.

He might have been the best short yardage back ever but he wasn't a 25-30 touch guy throwing up 1,000 yard seasons.

I don't get all the fucking whining about trading McCoy. All these guys that are whining are people who get in LOVE with players, buy their jerseys and wear them to games and own them in all their fantasy leagues. A fucking RUNNING BACK in their 7TH SEASON is not something that will last forever. Chip Kelly doesn't care, he's replaceable. The only thing that isn't replaceable in the NFL is a good starting QB, good coach, and a good manager. Other wise it's pretty much about SYSTEM football in the NFL. I actually think Philly won in the trade. They get rid of an aging running back going into 7th season in a passing league who is very expensive for a young talented linebacker that will contribute greatly for a HC that isn't a defensive guy. Not to mention he's cheaper to get on contract. This move makes sense, Chip Kelly knows that in his system he can replace LeSean McCoy easily. He's proven in Oregon and his first few years that he can put up points with anyone. Oregon would put up 45 a game and it's Oregon, the state of Oregon only gets like 2 five star in state prospects a year. He can score on offense, that's not a problem.

Posted via Mobile Device

Don't get me wrong, Oregon gets a lot of 4/5 star recruits from out of state. I understand they have talent. But to say they are powerhouse dynasty per say Alabama, Auburn, USC, OSU is far fetched. Oregon really just became into the picture in the last 6-7 years because what has been going right for them recently. They have to work harder to get recruits in from OTHER states because Oregon doesn't produce 4/5 star recruits in-state. All those said teams get a lot of interest from in-state recruits because they are... In state. It's like this... If I grew up as a 5 star recruit in So. Cal and have been a USC fan all my life and watch all those years with them in the Rose Bowl year after year and I had to choose between Oregon and USC, USC would get the nod.

But I digress... That wasn't even the main point or much of a point in my last post.
