Am I dreaming or is this REALLY the Buffalo Bills doing this?

I'm extremely comfortable with this. He'll either push Manuel to nut up and surprise us all or Cassel will start and most likely be a bit better than Orton but with a better offensive line and RB.

Cassel is just as good as Orton (we had them both at the same time).
I think Cassel is underrated. He was pretty successful for the Pats and then for the Chiefs when he had good coaching. Under Charlie Weis, he had a 27 TD/ 7 INT season and looked like our answer. Then Todd Haley was a dick and drove Charlie out of town.
Cassel was a disaster in the Romeo Crennel/ Brian Daboll offense, but so would anybody.
I recall there was a game where the Chiefs lost to the Ravens 9-6 in a game where neither offense could do shit. After the game a reporter asked Romeo what we would do in the next game if the opponent just kept 8 guys in the box all day to stop Jamaal like the Ravens had. Romeo said "We'll run away from that 8th guy."
In other words, we had coaches who seemed not to know of the existence of the play-action pass. Any quarterback would look shitty on those teams.
Cassel is a really fiery competitor and will be a leader ASAP while giving you a pretty decent performance.

Cassel is a placeholder until they find a real QB. It's not the world's worst plan. The picks they traded are insignficiatn (gave a 5th and 7th, got Cassel and a 6th back).

Rex's Plan SEEMS to be:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000476357/article/buffalo-bills-agree-to-trade-for-matt-cassel

A day after landing a dynamic new running back, the Buffalo Bills appear to have traded for their next starting quarterback.

The Bills announced Wednesday they've agreed to a trade with the Vikings to acquire Matt Cassel. FOX Sports reports the Bills will also receive a sixth-round pick in 2015 in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2015 and a seventh-round pick in 2016. The trade will not become official until the start of the new league year on March 10.

Cassel, 32, has one year remaining on the two-year, $10 million deal he signed with Minnesota last March. He's due $4.15 million in 2015, including a $500,000 roster bonus this month.

Cassel spent the past two seasons with the Vikings. He started the team's first three games last season before being sent to injured reserve in late September with a foot injury. He has a 33-38 career record as a starter over 10 seasons with the Vikings, Chiefs and Patriots. New England selected Cassel in the seventh round of the 2005 draft.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Vikings entered the QB trade market after they lost out on Josh McCown, who exited negotiations with Buffalo to sign a deal with the Browns last week. According to Rapoport, the goal over the past two years has been to locate a veteran who could play while EJ Manuel learns. Kevin Kolb was signed with that purpose, but concussions took him out of the picture. Kyle Orton was signed last year and played much of the season, but wasn't anybody's version of a teacher.

They believe they've found the right guy in Cassel, who becomes the heavy favorite to start for a Bills team that suddenly looks very different than it was 24 hours ago. Call it the Rex effect.

Now, after this last season? Sure. I think he's the best QB in the NFL. I still think it's hilarious he gets a pass for the Packers playing conservative 4th quarter ball against the Seahawks ... you know, just like the Seahawks did with the Patriots ... yet no one is strumming around calling Aaron Rodgers Aaron Dilfer.

Cassel basically has a similar team in Buffalo that he had in KC... good defense (Buffalo's is probably more talented), and a talented RB.

Buffalo also has better WR's than Cassel ever had in KC, but I still don't see how it will end any differently for Cassel in Buffalo than it did for him in KC.

There's no one out there. They wanted McCown fer crissakes. They just need a breathing stopgap vet to push Manuel and take the reins if he fails. For a team with few choices, it's not a horrible signing.

Dude, you spent the last two months of the season getting beaten to death, over and over, by everyone. You kept saying you were right, and ultimately, you were wrong, over and over and over.

The only thing that isn't clear is whether you're a masochist who loves to get beaten to death, or you're just too dumb to realize you're getting beaten to death.

The Chiefs traded 2 second round picks for Alex Smith, which mean't they were all in for Smith as the long term starter.

The Bills traded a 5th and 7th rounder for Cassel and a 6th, which means they are looking for a QBoTF, whether that's Manuel or a guy they draft in the next couple of years.

I would much rather be in the Bills position.

Think about how Trump has been up to his ass in debt, only to file bankruptcy and leverage himself back into the perception of being a worthwhile businessman when he's really just a supercilious cunt.

I guess it's good to have a skill (albeit a small one with Cassel) that so few people have. you can stay in the league for years even if you're a very poor QB simply by virtue of there isn't a lot of people out there who can play QB in general.
