According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jeremy Maclin's contract with the Chiefs will pay him in the vicinity of $11 million per year.
We can now understand why Chip Kelly let Maclin get away. While Maclin is a very nice receiver, paying him more than guys like Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson and Antonio Brown is a monstrous stretch. It's also a stretch to think Alex Smith could support a wide receiver enough for him to be worth $11 million annually. The Eagles were reportedly offering Maclin $9 million per year.

I'm taking a wait and see approach. Bowe's first 5 seasons were better than Maclin's. Career YPG are 63.6 for Maclin vs 60.6 for Bowe, including his Alex Smith years. The most likely out come is that we will STILL be overpaying for limited production from the WR position.

I tend to believe these fools gold theories more on players that were less highly recruited
Having said that, im not sure who is better for Alex smith. Bowe is as good as it gets in the NFL at those slants and beating press man... On 5-7 step drops Bowe hurts the team badly because he fails to create separation

Technically, McGlockton wasnt an FA...he was designated as a Transition player back then and cost KC a first rounder and a subsequent year a second rounder when Oakland did not match the offer sheet.

People on CP were going crazy when we were pursuing and eventually signed Eric Winston.
Eric Winston was a chump. Watch the last offensive play that we ran against (i think) Indianapolis. We hand the ball off to Payton Hillis and run left. Winston just falls down in front of the defender who jumps over him and runs down Hillis. If you get the chance to watch, you'll agree that he didn't even try.

Your not taking into consideration that Bowe, for the performance given, is way over paid. He is not a #1 receiver and we are paying him like one.
Plus if he did take a pay cut is this the type guy you want mentoring the young receiver we will probably draft. He doesn't strike me as that guy but Avant does.

Technically, if he was a transition player, he was still a FA.
That, however is incorrect.
The league determined that the Raiders did something sketchy with regards to the franchise tag and McGlocton, and allowed teams to negotiate for the services of McGlockton, and awarded he Raiders a pick at the end of the first round when he signed with the Chiefs.
The Chiefs did not give up any draft compensation.

I am wrong here, also.
The Chiefs did have to give up a 2nd round pick.

Didn't something weird happen with the guy the Raiders picked with that pick, like he died or something?
Just looked it up - Leon Bender out of Wazzu. Died before ever playing a snap.

I can't think of any that are more overhyped than Maclin.

Define overhyped.
He isn't Suh, or Revis, but he is easily the best FA receiver on the market, and a better fit for this offense than any receiver we could have signed.
