View Full Version : Money US Dollar is skyrocketing-time to travel abroad

For most of the last 10-12 years the US Dollar has been the doormat of the major World currencies, making travel and buying assets abroad very expensive. It also impacted the oil markets as oil is traded in dollars and made the price of oil higher.

Now with Europe in the shitter and US oil production crushing Russia, Venezuela, Canada and many other countries our currency is finally kicking ass!

After trading as high as 1.40-1.00, the Euro is going down faster than a whore at a sailor's convention! It is at 1.07-1.00 and expected to break parity to trade under 1.00

The Canadian dollar was .96-1.00 and ABOVE our currency but suddenly it's a whopping 1.2649-1.00 in favor of the US.

If there was ever a time in the last decade to travel to Europe, Canada, Mexico, and other countries like Japan or Russia, now is the time!

Bon Voyage!

Well they have been really stupid. The world can lose any country but the USA. If we were to go under for whatever reason, the ripple effects would take down everyone. If the $ was to become worthless, the whole world is fucked.

I'm watching the exchange rates and today, the Danish kroner is at 6.957 for a dollar. It was 5.2 when I was there last year and I will be exchanging pretty much the same amount of dollars into kroner. Just based on the better rate, I'll be getting over 2000 kroner more than last year, which is fantastic. My rent for 5 weeks in the beach apartment is 3292 kroner, so I'm basically getting more than half my rent money for free. If the kroner goes over 7 per dollar, even better! I'm going to feel rich over there.

We have Costa Rica booked for September... That's the only thing we have going as of now. Unless a killer jet trip comes up and the wife can ride along.

Good for travel...bad for selling anything into Canada right now. I have customers waiting to purchase until the CAD comes back more in line.

My mother in law gets paid mostly in Euros and has been exchanging them as fast as she can. Totally sucks for her, but man that will be sweet when we go back to Italy. Of course, the whole family there will be bitching about it.

Convert them to Canadian pennies and gradually slip them in here and there in order to pass them off as American pennies.

That's a great idea. No one ever notices until it's too late.

Well they have been really stupid. The world can lose any country but the USA. If we were to go under for whatever reason, the ripple effects would take down everyone. If the $ was to become worthless, the whole world is ****ed.

I believe this to be temporary. I see the eventual collapse of the petrodollar as the reserve currency of the world, which is what some financial investors are claiming. The Fed can't go on doing what it's doing. I see the IMF, run by global socialists, establishing a new currency. But we'll see.

Same here. I've had it since Nov 2013 and I haven't been sent back there yet for a trade show by the outfit who sends me, after they told me to renew my passport.
So I did and I've only been sent that one time. Now I'm stuck with their currency.

Now the kroner is just shy of 7 per dollar! If it climbs even higher by the time I arrive in May, I will be kickin' it like a viscount.

It just means the Euro sucks much worse than the dollar. And that means, it is good to be from the USA and travelling to Europe!

No more pennies. So it will have to be the loonie or goonie or something. It might have a hole in it.

Sweet. Too bad it is only one day. I'm not sure my schedule but I may be there that day. I'll let you know. If not, I'll definitely put together a list of "must see" things. Luckily, the port is right next to all the stuff to see and all the cool bars.

I might just buy up some EUROS right now and wait for the exchange rates to go back to the way they were and then resell it. Nice easy way to make a good bit of coin.

I got my trip all set, airfares and lodging. I will leave for Denmark on April 25th and arrive in Aalborg on the 26th, spend 5 nights there, and then head to the beach town of Løkken for 6 weeks, but I will have a side trip to Scotland from May 13th to the 18th, staying in the Kenneth MacKenzie hotel in Edinburgh. I used Expedia to get the airfare and hotel together, liked the price I saw, came back to it later and it dropped 40 dollars, so I jumped on it. I'll go to Copenhagen for the final 5 days of my trip to stay with a cousin, then fly back to KC on June 22nd.

I am counting down the days now!
