In a crazy start to the league year, one of the most surprising stories is this: Jake Locker is retiring at the age of 26.

“I am retiring from football after much reflection and discussion with my family,” Locker said in a statement, via Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. “I will always be grateful for having had the opportunity to realize my childhood dream of playing in the NFL and for the lifelong relationships I developed because of that experience. Football has always played a pivotal role in my life and I love the game, but I no longer have the burning desire necessary to play the game for a living; to continue to do so would be unfair to the next organization with whom I would eventually sign. I realize this decision is surprising to many, but I know in my heart that it is the right decision and I look forward to spending more time with my family and pursuing other interests.”

Locker was a disappointment as the No. 8 overall pick of the Titans in 2011, but he likely could have found some team to pay him a few million dollars in free agency: In today’s NFL, even a mediocre quarterback can make good money.

But Locker has battled numerous injuries, and apparently his heart isn’t in it anymore. And so he’s walking away.

Difference between being injured and not being able to play your position.

I object, other teams love the way he plays the position.

Doubt it, they are in love the Mettenburger. They want to trade down but they are asking for a package like the one Atlanta gave up to trade up to get Julio Jones.

Dumbass.

I woulda milked the NFL for every last dollar. How many opportunities do you get to sign multi-million dollar contracts? And he just blew it.

For real. He probably wouldn't have been given a starting job, but someone would have thrown millions at him to just sit on the bench and be a backup and spot start a couple games a year.

It's only because he's made of glass. He has the skill set, he just can't stay healthy. I had a good idea come his senior season that he wasn't going to make it for that reason. I still want surprised when he went 8th because of that skill set. That's life. Kind of dumb to walk away from 10+ million for holding a clipboard for 3 more years. To each his own, I guess.

Has anyone ever cost themselves more money than Jake Locker by staying in school?

He was seen as a likely first round pick in 2010, the last year of the wildly out of whack 1st round contracts. My recollection is either McShay or Kiper had him going first overall.

He struggled badly his Senior year and still went in the top 10 but under a significantly diminished contract.

Maybe the writing was on the wall when he didn't declare early. Football as a job just wasn't his thing.

Dude had chronic bladder infections, found anew acupuncturist to shove 40 acupuncture needles up his dick hole thinking it would get better.

3 days later he gets part of his bladder removed and a serious dick infection. Said he had no pain for that, but they called me in because he said he had a tooth ache, tuned out to be he had some sensitivity from abrasion.

So in ahort, 40 needles in his cock, no pain.

Brushed his teeth to hard, unbearable.

Free agent edge rusher Jason Worilds says he's retiring after five years in the NFL.
The No. 52 overall pick of the 2010 draft, Worilds is only 27, and was Rotoworld's No. 4 remaining free-agent edge rusher. "After much thought and consideration, I have chosen to step away from football as I have opted to pursue other interests," Worilds said. CBS reports Worilds has undergone a "spiritual awakening." It's an absolute stunner for a player who generated 15.5 quarterback takedowns over the past two seasons. Worilds was Pro Football Focus' No. 11 3-4 outside linebacker in 2014. We don't doubt Worilds' current sincerity — he's not walking away due to a lack of interest — but when someone this young and talented retires, there's always a chance they'll change their mind in the not-too-distant future.

Per roto.

Maybe the same religious nutcase got to both Willis and Worilds?

This isn't surprising. There were whispers that Locker didn't love football and his lack of progression over the years proves the point.

Plus, he always struggled with accuracy and any QB coach or OC coordinator will tell you that accuracy is one aspect that can't be fixed. If the QB doesn't see the field, the defense, the receiver and the ball placement naturally, no amount of coaching will help.
