I think he's a better coach than Rick Barnes. Is that a good enough compliment?

Well, we get to see what he does with real talent. If I were the chancelor at UT, I'd have driven the big orange Brinks truck to the house that Koch built myself.

Smart may win the next 10 straight NCAA titles, but I think Marshall is the better coach.

Another shitty post by this guy.

It's criminal that Barnes didn't go to multiple Final Fours with the talent he did, and could have, recruited to UT. The resources down here are insane.

I think the same thing about Scott Drew, but that guy is a shady fuck AND a bad coach. Barnes is just a bad coach.

Granted, UT doesn't really give a fuck about basketball. Their attendance sucks and the fans sit all game.

Also, fuck Bruce Weber.

I'm so sad we have to sit through another year of this asshole while our program circles the drain.

FUCK.

That is truly criminal. Especially with what Thuggy Bear and Martinstein were able to put together.

I have some respect for Scott Drew.

Baylor HAD NO BASKETBALL TEAM when he took over. It was worse than starting from scratch. The university had covered up a fucking murder for fucks fucking sake.

Drew built a respectable program from the depths of hell. He didn't start at 0, he started at some negative number. It really is incredible.

He's a poor game day coach, but he's recruited some good dudes to a program that had fuckall. IIRC, the first dudes Drew recruited couldn't have enough eligibility to play in the post season. In their entire collegiate career. If Baylor fires Drew, they're fucking with karma.

Drew is ridiculously underrated. I'm not sold on Smart.

Well he went to a final four then two straight sweet 16's and then won the first round this year, with a small school.

Not every team can be KU. He'll probably be good at Texas with better recruiting opportunities, don't you think?

The dude coached for 6 years at VCU and went dancing 5 times (with a final 4 appearance).

Yeah.

This is a good hire.

He's going to get better recruits at Texas than VCU too.

the Texas AD is the guy who was the GM that assembled the early 2000s Portland Jailblazers one of the worst rosters in sports ever

Wow, I didn't realize the Texas AD was a former NBA GM. That should also help out a lot with recruiting. Those NBA ties are huge to recruits.

He's a decent coach. Texas should be improved. I still think they would have been better with Greg Marshall.

It will be interesting to see whether he can handle moneyball down in Texas

recruits are spoiled and bribed

Really good hire. A great coach just landed in a spot with the resources to do some real damage down the road.

Hes gonna bring so much swag to Texas. Hell turn that
that program into a powerhouse and be recruiting top 10 kids every year. Great hire for Texas and big12. Not great for me as a ku fan. Its gonna be a good rivalry

I think this is an "ok" hire. I really don't think this guy will stand the test of time though. I think he'll come out flying out of the gate, and then have some under performing teams. With the way fans, the NCAA, and social media wants the game to go (less contact, more flow, which means more fouls) it's going to be a dying breed in terms of style. There's a reason nobody plays the Shaka Smart style in the NBA.

Thankfully there will be little pressure on him to win tourney games at Texas.

He should hold the job for 15-20 years

Good hire

It is certainly worth the risk.

If he can motivate higher level recruits even close to the way he did at VCU, it's a grand slam hire.

No shit. If you coach in the Big 12, there's little pressure to win tourney games.

Kinda like coaching in the SEC. Conference games are meaninglessness.
