So apparently its been building with her for a long time, but the final straw was that I wanted to watch the game today instead of going with her to some BBQ at one of her friends' house that I cant stand. Last night making her watch the game with me instead of our usual Sat night of watching movies might have had something to do with it as well.

No more than an hour after the game ended she came over and gave me her ring back and said "I cant do this anymore". I just stood there dumbfounded as I watched her walk to her car. Im sure its not just the baseball games, we've been fighting a lot the last few months about stupid shit but I guess this finally sent her over the edge.

I'm sure I'll be hurt by this tomorrow, but until then go Royals!

It's been decades since the Royals were serious contenders so it's kind of a wash..

Back in my single days I went out a few times with a very cute girl. One day I picked her up early on a Sunday afternoon. We hadn't made any plans, and I told her I thought it would be fun to go see the Royals game that day.

She looked at me I was from outer space and she said "Really?" in a tone of voice that made it clear that the last thing she would ever do would be to go to a Royals game. Or any sporting event, for that matter.

I stopped calling her after that.

this last petty argument was def a way for her to storm off like a brat like most women do.

Sure, you may have not spent enough quality time in HER mind.. but if she was a somewhat mature woman who truly wanted to be your wife she should at least have the respect for you to talk it out with you of what shes missing but she refuses and the arguments build over small things and then this last thing was a gateway for her to bounce.

Trust me, you are prob at fault too in some ways, but she also had some selfishness clearly.

I learned this the hardway... when one of the spouses or other half wants to wage war.. you be the peacemaker.. don't count on them to be a peacemaker.. you have to be the peacemaker.. learn how to use emotional jujitsu. You know where the term "women are always right?" comes into play? when you are in arguments and in situations like these...in the future if its the same girl or future.. agree with her.. admit you were mistaken and most times she will find her self actually defending you and thats where the emotional jujitsu comes into play.

Step 3 meet new chick at royals game who is sympathetic to your needs
Step 4 buy her the ring

Bullshit. It's a ****ing regular season game.

Also there is a thing called a DVR.

If you choose any form of "watching" entertainment over social activity with your SO you probably don't deserve them.

No. If they "usually watch movies" on Saturday nights and she gets mad one fucking night where he gets to watch the Royals game instead then she needs to losen her grip.

And if she knows he doesn't like going to that friends house and gets mad that he didn't go then fuck it. Dude saved himself from problems down the road.

I have to think there's more to this story than a girl dumping a guy because he watched the Royals 2 days in a row. I'm not doubting MTG#10. I'm sure from his perspective it happened exactly as he said.

I'm saying this girl was looking to dump him. Today's event was simply the excuse for her to do what she's planning to do for some time.

Well duh. Seriously that was my very first thought.

I also don't see how he's the one looking like a moron when you're the one hooting and hollering like a 10 year old solely for the purpose of attention.

If you're so damned happy there chief, why is it everyday you come on this board craving attention like a hungry man craves food?

So being a realist makes one starving for attention? That's new

I went through something like this with my first engagement. Strung me along trying to change my preferences to hers, thought everything we did had to be together all the time. It went on until i realized I was miserable, had enough and called it off.
My wife seldom watches the Royals. I seldom miss a game. We're fine with it.
Figure out what's important to you - and watching sports seems to be - and make sure you are transparent about it with the next serious girlfriend. I'd avoid the stage 2 clinger who decides to like to Royals simply to seem appealing to you though. She'll eventually ruin your enjoyment of the sport.

Gee, this is sure a humdinger.

This. Relationships are a compromise. I've missed a couple of awesome golf tournaments that my buddies are in because my wife's side of the family has a couple of young girls that have dance recitals. Puke! But, I know that it's important to her. She watched with you, now you need to do something she wants to do. Could they not have had the game on tv or radio at the bbq? They may have, and now you'd be fine. I think it's all for the better for HER that she found out you are a trainwreck before marrying your selfish ass.

I'm sure it's been said, but if your relationship ended over a disagreement involving a Royals game, then it wasn't much of a relationship to begin with. The two of you should have been able to discuss the issue and find a way out of the situation in a mutually agreeable way. That you couldn't reveals the weakness in the relationship.

I liken this to the time my boss(now my mrs) sent out invites to the company Christmas party which read Food & Fun which also happened to be on a Sunday.I didn't RSVP and when asked why I told her Sunday was my NFL day.

The next day I got a new invite that said Food,Fun and Football and was like damn this is a heck of a woman.I later married her and am now coming upon 30 years and to this day she knows that Sundays during NFL are all mine.

Point being, had this girl done something like that for the BBQ I'd say she's a keeper.I'm sure there's other stuff going on but the way this played out with the info I have I'd have to say good riddance.

Hanging with you SO should never be looked upon as a chore. You hang together and be together because it is suppose to be joyful.
Granted there are instances where you would rather not do something that your SO has in mind. Usually there is a compromise that can be made, or sometimes it is so important to the other that you just suck it up and make the best of it.
