Perhaps the reason Victor Martinez's legs dont have the same pop this year is that he is off the juice?

Just a thought. I mean, it's not like he suspiciously started hitting with more power in his mid-30s than he ever had before, reversing a downward power production trend ...

Oh, wait...

That san andreas movie trailer distracted me a bit. I thought "huh, what magnitude is that?" Looked it up and the movie says it is supposed to be 9.0

Then I thought "9.0 causes all that? Hmmm, really?" Looked up some science articles really quick and concluded that yeah, pretty much thats what would happen to SF if a 9.0 happened there.

OK, so San Andreas is scientifically accurate, more or less.

Back to the ballgame.

Guthrie really has better stuff than people give him credit for. That's why he lit it up in September last year, he was locked in. He throws low 90s with movement, and a change up that really dives when he's throwing it well. He just has to keep the ball down and locate.

He's an innings eater, he won't light up the stat books or win a Cy Young, but he's been an undeniable asset over the past three seasons.

I'm still concerned with his overall production (he's wavered a couple of times in this game as well), but I will always be thankful that Moore was able to land him for Johnahnaothon Sanchize

I remember Hootie saying He would keep Gordon at the leadoff spot

I would ... actually.

But Escobar is kind of a mental midget when it comes to hitting so if it would hurt his feelings for him to bat 9th then so be it.

Gordon has .400 OBP

years ago I argued our best hitter (Gordon) shouldn't bat leadoff because none of our other stiffs could drive him in

Now? We have a great 2, 3, 4, 5 so I'd prefer to have a guy who gets on at a 40% clip at leadoff as opposed to Alcides "I make Salvy look patient" Escobar.

But if it causes Escobar to be all somber and unhappy at 9th and he regresses to a .230 hitter then fine, keep him at leadoff.

Guthrie really has better stuff than people give him credit for. That's why he lit it up in September last year, he was locked in. He throws low 90s with movement, and a change up that really dives when he's throwing it well. He just has to keep the ball down and locate.

Oh come on.

Guthrie has mediocre stuff with very mediocre secondary pitches.

He's a solid #4 or #5 because he has a great mental game and he doesn't let 1 bad pitch effect his game. He's an innings eater that can keep you in the game.

At this point, his 2 seamer might be a B- pitch. His changeup is a C at best. He's a guy who gets you through a season who ideally shouldn't be pitching meaningful October games.

Hey look, Hootie's back to pick a fight in a 6-1 game.

Nothing I said was inaccurate. I said the same things last year. He can't blow guys away, which is why he has to locate and needs this defense behind him. His changeup is much better after working with Shields for two years. That's what turned him into an effective pitcher. Go back and watch September last year, it was really moving like an old Greg Maddux changeup, and that's when he was performing really well. Of course he's a #4 or 5 starter. He just has to keep the ball down.

I do think the fact that both had a chance to make a play affected the other's attempt to make a play.

Rios doesn't have Dyson's speed, so if there's no chanc for collision, Cain might have made that play.

But as I said earlier, you con not blame Dyason for going after that play.
