The one thing we have going for us is that Vargas is a leftie. It will be harder for the Yanks to abuse the short porch in right, but still, this game doesn't make me feel too good.

Early, but I'm still surprised...

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2476927-mlb-all-star-game-2015-voting-salvador-perez-lorenzo-cain-top-early-al-results

The Kansas City Royals' sprint to the top of the American League standings has been good for their ascending stars, four of whom lead their respective positions on early All-Star ballot returns.

Catcher Salvador Perez leads all players with 1,447,753 votes, nearly double that of the Oakland Athletics' Stephen Vogt, the second-place player at the position. Outfielder Lorenzo Cain is currently second among all players with 1,376,217 votes. Third baseman Mike Moustakas and shortstop Alcides Escobar also lead their positions on a Royals-dominated list.

Kansas City currently boasts a top-two player at every position. Alex Gordon, who would start as the third outfielder if balloting ended today, gives the AL-leading club five potential starters. Designated hitter Kendrys Morales, second baseman Omar Infante and first baseman Eric Hosmer are holding second place at their positions in voting.

AL All-Star Voting Leaders

Position Player
C Salvador Perez, Royals
1B Miguel Cabrera, Tigers
2B Jose Altuve, Astros
3B Mike Moustakas, Royals
SS Alcides Escobar, Royals
OF Lorenzo Cain, Royals
OF Mike Trout, Angels
OF Alex Gordon, Royals

Source: MLB.com

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera, Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Seattle Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout are the only ones who separate the AL from being an all-Royals affair.

Infante, who is nearly 600,000 votes behind Altuve, is the least likely Royal to make a comeback. Even third outfielder Alex Rios, who has played seven games all season, is only a little more than 300,000 votes out of a starting gig.

The Kansas City-heavy results coincide with the Royals busting out to a 28-16 record heading into Tuesday, the best in the American League. The once-lowly franchise was also baseball's biggest feel-good story last year, carrying a low-cost roster and unorthodox style all the way to the World Series.

Granted, there is still plenty of time for this all to change. Ballots are open until 11:59 p.m. ET on July 2. Even with the Royals contingent coming out heavy, odds are more deserving players will wind up gaining votes over the next month.

That someone like Infante, who is hitting .250/.260/.357 without a home run or stolen base, has more votes than Cleveland Indians second baseman and MVP candidate Jason Kipnis feels like something that should course-correct sooner rather than later.

As it stands, though, Cain and Perez are likely going to see a few familiar faces in the starting lineup come July.

Hosmer won't beat Miggy, could be selected though
Infante obviously won't win
Esky and Moose look like they may have a real shot at getting voted in
Salvy looks like an easy win
Morales probably won't win, not sure how often DHs get selected but if he's leading the league in RBI, Yost definitely has an excuse to pick him
Cain looks like he'll make it. Alex will be a close call. His batting #s just aren't that good.

Not to be an alarmist, but it might be time for the players to kick the coaches out of the locker room and ask each other what the problem is. The sooner they get to it, the sooner we might break out of this "almost every facet of the game" funk we seem to be in.

OK, that's being an alarmist, but I know how this team needs to be hitting on all 8 cylinders to succeed, and right now we aren't.

They didn't give up, but the effort just wasn't there on the part of the offense. This pitcher is a dime a dozen. Average fastball and nice breaking slider. Never saw a 3rd pitch for the hitters to worry about, yet they were swinging as if they'd never seen a slider before. Complete joke.

Yeah I know, but you could've used Blanton for those two innings and flip flopped it. Just because they actually planned this out a few days ago... Vargas goes Tuesday and Blanton follows him once he gets to 75.

It would be nice if our starting pitching could go the 1st inning without allowing runs....

The other team has scored first in 4 straight games. We pulled out the win Saturday...Sunday we batted for the fist time down 2-0, yesterday we allowed 8 runs in the bottom of the 1st, today we allow 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st...

When your starting pitching can't even start the game without giving up runs then it's kinda hard to not lose

Ugh. Step back from the ledge. The Royals have just come off a 5 GAME WIN STREAK!

I've been doing some research on Sweeney's story. There's only one game against the Yankees where Rusch was pitching, Sweeney was catching, and they struck out Paul O'Neill looking (twice, actually). August 8, 1998. If thats the case, the mysterious unnamed umpire in Sweeney's story is Rich Garcia.

Love it when losing 3 in a row is a funk. It was par for the course moments ago.

Yeah, when you're making errors, walking hitters and swinging at pitches in the dirt for the 3rd straight game....that's a funk.

I can understand if offense goes quiet but pitching and defense is strong or offense and defense is on and pitching is off, but when all 3 are off...well...that's funky

Yeah but our starting pitching has made a habit of giving up runs in the 1st inning....we had a small stretch where we didn't but overall it's not a good thing

I'm surprised that didn't hit Salvy but more surprised that he didn't swing at it :)

I smell a big inning coming in the top of the 8th. Book it.

LMAO I swear all 3 hitters that inning looked at the 4 strikes and swung at the 9 balls that were just thrown

I'll take 5-3 every 8 games all ****ing season.

That's what people don't get sometimes, it's not like football where you need to win 12 out of 16 games to be any good.

If you go 5-3 every 8 games, you'll win 102 games and have the best record in baseball.

I think we all know a losing streak was going to happen sooner or later...it's just no fun watching your team get curb stomped. I'd rather lose 3-2 than 297395-1

That's what Betances does. His stuff is just too good to react to a pitch that they aren't looking for. Think of how hitters feel facing Wade Davis. That's the Yankees version of him.
