Now this is just hilarious. So much for Tomsula being a player's coach and having the players' backing. He has had 4 significant starters quit on him now;Smith, Willis, Borland, and now Davis.

Anyone who doesn't believe this has to do with concussions is crazy. Word is getting around the league will continue to do so.

This is just the beginning. It could be a completely different league in 10 years.

That's actually not true. I read (somewhere - don't have the link) that the Oline/Dline is most at risk because it's a constant pounding on every play and rarely does it manifest itself as it does when a player gets his bell rung on a big hit.

Theory among some of the researchers is that D and Oline guys are the ones who really have to be careful because they're butting heads thousands upon thousands of times throughout their career. They believe mini-concussions across 10-15 years of playing football can lead to severe CTE.

Just ask Mike Webster.

It has been speculated that Webster's ailments were due to wear and tear sustained over his playing career; some doctors estimated he had been in the equivalent of "25,000 automobile crashes" in over 25 years of playing football at the high school, college and professional levels. His wife Pamela would state years later that she felt that she caused Webster's change in personality in the years before his death and placed guilt on herself over her decision to divorce Webster, until discovering after his death about the CTE diagnosis

ROFL Nothing pisses me off more than taking games over seas. We only get 8 fucking home games a year the way it is. This isn't baseball where one wouldn't be a big deal. One lost home game could decide playoff berths and division titles.

I mean, if it saves lives and increases the quality of life for thousands(hundreds of thousands if you count their families), I really don't see a problem.

If you want to keep the game as is, the only thing they can do is have players sign a waiver saying there is a high risk of CTE and mental problems later in life. If the NFL does that, they basically admit a large portion of their talent will be fucked during their later years which is what they don't want.

The league is potentially in a really bad spot right now and it's only getting worse.

3 of our first ten games this year is in Arrowhead. And people are convinced the division is ours for the taking. So that means 4 of our last 6 are at home?

What's the problem again? Schedules for different teams are going to be unbalanced across the league. Some have home games concentrated in the beginning of the season, some at the end, some in the middle. I don't see what the big deal is.

Our schedule is pretty balanced matter fact. 3 of the first 8 at home. 4 of the last 8 at home.

I'm not at all worried about the schedule.

This team beat the best teams in football last year and has gotten much stronger in the offseason.

I say bring em on and let's see what this team has.

I bet we are playing for home field advantage during the last 2-3 weeks.

Completely agree.

The guy is getting paid as the overall leader of this football team.

Leaders lead Lead team to wins or don't do enough to win.

The line and receivers will be "good enough"...the backs and tight ends are as good as it gets in the NFL. The defense will be top 5 and might be the best defense in the NFL.

Alex Smith needs to put it all together and lead this team to playoff wins.

The roster is basically telling the team they don't believe in the direction of the team.

I don't think I've seen anything like this in the NFL roster wise.

Baseball yes, but a team to just basically want out/quit/retire/walk away speaks volumes of that franchise.

Their fans should be flying a lot more than just banners to fire somebody responsible for this.

Yeah, I don't think that any of these retirements happen if Harbaugh was still there and the FO didn't make a complete ass of itself by leaking tons of rumors (they were the source of the Kaepernick trade rumors as well) and lying about pretty much everything.

This leaves them with Staley and Boone as the only OTs they have that aren't fodder rookies.

I wonder what caused the timing of this retirement. If he would have done this before the draft or free agency, at least the team would have some time to find a replacement.
