Driving up from KC to Minneapolis and thought I'd see if any of you had some local hidden gems along I-35 that I should try for lunch/dinner along the way?

Feel free to go off topic, as I wouldn't mind hearing about little dive restaurants that put out great food wherever you may be.

Mods - Can't remember if there is already a thread regarding this, but if there is, will one of you please merge?

Sounds awful.

I was thinking more along the lines of a good burger, great pork T sandwich, etc...something more lunch style I guess.

couple of places in DesMoines. Check out Foodtv.com and look up Guy Fierri's DDD restaurants. Just put in the states you will be in

I have a friend here at work who went to ISU in Ames. He said try Hickory Park, which is about 1 mile west of I-35 on Hwy 30. Said the food is wonderful.

I'll give that place a try. SHould be perfect timing for lunch.

As a bonus, maybe I can kidnap Rusty while I'm up there.

There's also Smokey D's right off the interstate in Des Moines. The guy has won a lot of competitions, although it's not the best Q in Des Moines imo. The burnt ends and sides are good.
