18. Alex Smith, Chiefs

Underrated mobility adds a dimension to a QB who operates under defined reads and who attempts safe throws almost exclusively.

3. Andrew Luck, Colts

Has a chance to one day reach the All-Time Mt. Rushmore, right up there with Brady, Montana and whoever else you have. Right now, he’s already the best play-extending pocket passer in the game, by far.

False: it's Ben Roethlisberger.

Why does everybody slob on Andrew Luck's knob? He's yet to have a season where he has a QB rating above 97

Meh. They are completely harmless.. sometimes even humorous.

As for Smith at 18? Yeah, I'd move him up about 5 spots. Even if to accept at 18? That's a pretty complimentary spot, having played behind a bottom OL throwing to bottom 5 WRs.

He should certainly be ranked above Cutler and Palmer, I think.

16 would probably be his sweet spot. There are a few QBs behind him that I might put above him, so I guess 18 is still fair.

But the Cutler and Palmer rankings are jokes.

I wouldn't call them jokes. They can be debated. All are flawed QBs with differing strengths and weaknesses.

If protecting the football and limiting turnovers are more important to you, sure, Alex Smith is the obvious choice.

But considering Cutler's arm talent, I can see some scenarios where Cutler is a preferred choice.

Palmer is a very similar player to Alex Smith, with more willingness to push the ball downfield but less mobility. Again, based on system and what is needed from the QB spot, a player I could see some preferring.

This I agree thoroughly. Cutler can't win the big one when it counts. Cutler quits when he "thinks" he is beat. The only reason some of these guys are ahead of Smith is they can throw the deep ball and have been to the playoffs a few more times. Cutler is a loser because he has no fire in the belly to win and Newton is a loser because he still thinks it's all about him(Still doing the Superman chest spread is just idiotic.

Owner of the best raw arm in the game, and he became more disciplined last season.

He actually was right behind Smith *who did you know threw no TDs to WRs?* in TD% and is right at the same % over the last 4 seasons.

I'm not sure why he takes so much criticism here, other than being a former Raider.

Perhaps because some suggested the Chiefs should have traded for him instead of Smith?

No idea. He is typically 4000 yards, 60% completiton, 25 TD guy. Throws a few many picks and is injury prone but thats why is 16 and not higher.

Palmer has the ability to throw an INT at exactly the wrong time. Seemed like he would do it as a Raider right when he needed to protect the ball at the end of games. A loss to ATL is a perfect example of Palmer playing a great game, then tossing an INT towards the end to help ATL get back in it.

Why I have a hard time with rankings in general, is because people try to rank QBs on what they have done rather than their skillset. When I try to compare QBs, I try to image all things equal. Who would I pick over who if similar circumstance?

The reason why I dont appreciate players like Alex Smith or Russell Wilson nearly as much as players like Tony Romo is because of what is asked out of each quarterback. If Tony Romo plays poorly, the Cowboys have absolutely no chance of winning the game. If Alex Smith or Russell Wilson play poorly, do the Seahawks or our chances of winning drastically go down? No, not really. Alex Smith and Russell Wilson have the luxury of protecting the ball at the expense of production. Most other QBs dont have that luxury....which is why you see more interceptions.

I dont think protecting the ball is some amazing skill....its something ANY serviceable NFL quarterback can do if he doesnt have to worry about anything other than that. I value production over protection. Russell Wilson is right where he should be, and Alex is too high.

Carson Palmer?

The buzz and fantasy football hype based on a stretch of good play for the 1st time in 5 years.

The avg D Pts allowed he faced was 21st.

And Defense handed the AZ offense 13 Turnovers in that 6 game stretch, 3 D/ST TDs. KC got 13 ALL SEASON.

Probably like 31...because when he continues to not produce and keep the Chiefs in purgatory due to his limitations, while having the most fortunate of circumstances, then what would the excuses be? The almighty list makers would have to acknowledge that and rank him accordingly.

Id gladly take a bunch of those guys listed after Smith; Bridgewater, Bortles, Winston, Dalton, Kaepernick

all better than him and its not close

Crowning a rookie? Dalton has proven nothing, and kaep is not better today. Bortles? Stop. Bridge water hell yes. What a miss by a ton of teams.
