Andy Dalton took part in the Legends and Celebrity Softball Game on Sunday, but some Cincinnati fans found it appropriate to use to the opportunity to boo the two-time Pro Bowl Bengals quarterback.

The first came during the on-field introductions when a mix of boos spliced in with cheers from the Great American Ball Park crowd. A similar mix came when Dalton took his first at bat.

"I'm not worried about it," Dalton said. "Everybody has got an opinion. It doesn't really matter. It comes with it. Everybody has their opinion here. There's a lot of support and that's all that matters.".

If every Bengal game was Sunday at 1:00 PM EST, they would have won multiple Super Bowls with Andy Dalton at the helm.

I thought it was awesome and very deserving when Cassel as boo'd.

Thought it was also deserving when people cheered when he left the game during the BAL game. Not because he was injured, but because someone else was finally coming in to play other than him. Injury was the only way he was gonna see the bench regardless of how poorly he played...and he was playing like shit...hell the coaching staff that game designed a game plan that wasn't allowing him to pass the ball...I dont think the Chiefs passed at all the first half of that BAL game.

Fuck Haley and that piece of obese shit Weis for the 2nd half of that game. Jamaal Charles was raping the Ravens defense in the first half and in the 2nd half barely touched the ball.

Something incredibly stupid happens every playoff game. It's like we try to top ourselves each time.

Was that the game where he fumbled at the one yard line? My God he was/is horrible. That was some of the most bizarre play calling, but understandable considering Cassel was behind center. God, I wish we could have seen Stanzi.

He did, but it wasn't serious. Probably hurt our gameplan quite a bit, regardless.

We got yelled down because "What has Stanzi done, he's a nobody!"

You and me both, brah.

But nobody at the time wanted to acknowledge that we had paid a nobody $60 million, and I guess that made his time as a starter more valuable and important than turning over every turd at QB we had to see if we had SOMETHING better.

Both those years, 2011/2012, it seemed like there was absolutely no reason whatsoever to at least give him a shot. I mean, presumably due to Pioli's stubbornness, we were stuck with Matty Melt when he was healthy, but when he wasn't, what was the dang point in continuously trotting Tyler Palko out there...and sticking with Brady Quinn when the season was way, wayyy out of reach? My God, it was frustrating.

I seriously watched that Stanzi to Cody Slate TD pass from the preseason like 50 times during that era. :)

'95 Kickers misses four field goals, '97 we start GrBac over a hot Gannon, '03 no punt game, '06 league-leading rusher LJ goes for 32 yards, '10 Jamaal rapes BAL D for 10 YPC in first half- sees 1 carry the entire second half, '13 blow a 28 point lead.

Makes me sick thinking about all the failure.

Agreed.

The comparison in this thread seems to be against Cassel. I'd take Dalton any day over Cassel.

Hence my mediocre QB designation.

More proof that people today are dicks.

Booing your own players was once thought to be boorish and poor sportsmanship by the fans. Today, it's almost celebrated.

Dalton's not a great QB at this stage and may never become a Hall of Famer (which seems to be the bar in the Internet Age) but he's the best QB the Bengals have had since Esiason's run from 1984-1990 and he's been at the helm for three straight playoff berths.

Fan expectations have become ridiculous.

It's a classless thing to do, for sure.

But Dalton's had more than enough opportunities to take that team to the next step and failed miserably at it each time. You could make a case that the Bengals have the most talented roster in the league. If they don't win a playoff game this season, they should shitcan Dalton and Marvin Lewis.

There's no way they should give up on Andy Dalton. He's only 27 years old and he's been a very good regular season QB, throwing for more than 4,000 yards. You can't give that guy away for free.

Marvin Lewis has done a very good job over the years and since he's partnered up in the draft, they've acquired some very good talent. It's not as if there's Bill Belichick II waiting in the wings for them, especially given the fact that even though they've made it to the playoffs the last three years, Cincy still struggles to fill their stadium.

Not every NFL QB is a Hall of Famer in waiting.

Very true, but you've got to make moves as a franchise if you're stagnant.

They made the playoffs three straight years and went one-and-done each time due in large part to Dalton's primetime failures. This latest season, his fourth in the league, they didn't even make the playoffs.

Taking a look at his contract details, it appears the dead cap hit of cutting or trading him would probably be a bit too steep so I'd say they should only give him until after the 2016 season. If they don't see some marked improvement in terms of postseason success, they've got to think about moving on from him.

Dalton should be THE LINE between good and suck.

He's right where it should be divided and decided...
