Just called in and got it for free again....plus a $10 bill credit for 12 months and a $5 bill credit for 6 months.

Didn't even have to haggle with the guy.

Anybody else tried yet?

Yeah. I tried last week. No go. Offered a small discount. Not even close to what I had last year. So I dropped Sunday Ticket for now. I will call mid august to try again. Normally I get a good deal with credits.

Cancelling mine as I type. I work Sundays now and my wife works overnights on Saturdays. Best I could watch is the first half of each game. I work at 2 pm. No sense in paying $42/month for it. Never was offered any type of deal.

I called. No discount, nothing free for Sunday Ticket. Just asked if that would be all I needed. I downgraded our package a few times this year also as our bill keeps going up. My contract is up in November and they are either gonna lock me into a price without a contract or I'm out. They refused to give me a wireless box so I could move a TV to my patio earlier this year too. FUCK THEM.

I think it works in my situation because my contract is up right around the time they start charging for ST. I just call and ask them when my contract is up....and then they ask me why. I mention that I can't afford ST anymore and that it's the only reason that I'm with them. Sometimes they offer me a discount and I have to talk them down further....but this time the guy just came back with free and the bill credits.

Did you call a regular CSR or did you talk to retention?

I called after I had my car fixed to the tune of $1k a month ago. I said with the repair and purchasing the car earlier this year, I couldn't handle the $300 ST charge. She said she'd cancel it. I asked when my contract was up and she said November. That was it. Nothing offered on any of it.

Regular customer service or retention?

Regular. I didn't ask to go to retention and she didn't offer.

I am thinking of calling back about my issues earlier this year and probe them about how I can get a TV to the back patio. Century Link offers wireless set-top boxes where I could move any TV in my house to a new location. I am gonna ask what they have that compares and threaten to move when my contract is done or buy out early. Otherwise, it seems I get no where. Last year it was an hour long phone call with the retention department to get Sunday Ticket for $180 and they didn't want to give me that until I threatened to pay the early cancellation fee to terminate our contract.

The NBA's decision to unbundle League Pass follows the settlement of a lawsuit filed against the National Hockey League. Hockey fans filed a class-action complaint against the NHL to similarly unbundle the league's streaming package.

The NBA's decision could be a harbinger for one of pay-TV's biggest products, the DirecTV-distributed NFL package NFL Sunday Ticket.

The NFL and DirecTV (NASDAQ: DTV) are currently being sued by bar owners, casinos and other businesses that show NFL games to customers. The complaint contends that Sunday Ticket should not be offered to DirecTV exclusively and should be opened to other pay-TV operators to increase competition and lower the price. The plaintiffs say the package currently violates two sections of the Sherman Antitrust Act.

In August 2014, DirecTV signed an exclusive, multi-year $12 billion deal with the NFL to re-up the Sunday Ticket package. The deal, which runs through 2022, increases DirecTV's licensing fees from $1 billion a season to $1.4 billion. Depending on their size, businesses pay between $2,314 and $120,000 a season to purchase Sunday Ticket access, the suit says.

Year 2015 and I never had trouble with connection with cable before unless the power actually goes out. I didn't want to be like Meat head Rob Lowe so I got Direct TV to be like Rob Lowe.

I'll continue to fight it off, but I don't think I will be attending as many games this year.

I got fed up with DirecTv about a month ago and signed up with Dish for $65/mon instead of 95/month that my bill had gone up to. Called to cancel and got sent to customer service where "Tommy" cut my bill back to $65/month matching Dish and he gave me Sunday Ticket, MLB Extra Innings and 4 months free Showtime that doesn't have to be called and cancelled in Nov. They got me back. When I called and cancelled my install the Dish guy said I'd got a good deal.

I've had cable 20+ years without connection issues do to weather and with Direct TV it rains and I lose connection and they said that wouldn't happen. That's what I'm upset about with them .

Plus I had to search for the Royals game it was hidden on channel 671-5 so I have to turn it to 671 then scroll down to 671-5 just to get the game that should be local anyways. I don't want to have to do that for Chiefs game. It makes it harder to flip to prev channel and back without having the hassle to scroll down each time. I find this annoying as hell.

On the other hand at least I don't have to get up and walk ten feet and change the channel manually on the television like we had too growing up so I guess life is good lol.

I don't think they'll drop Sunday ticket, the deal was dependent on Directv renewing their deal with the NFL to have exclusive rights.

I think they had a student streaming package last year for $100. (IE - you don't need a dish to get it) It might not be any more than what someone on CP would charge you. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000365728/article/directv-to-offer-nfl-sunday-ticket-streaming-options

I drink water at the local buffalo wild wings, Way better screens than I could ever afford and I ususally walk to my car and eat a sandwhich I made if I get hungry. With the money I saved I put it into a nice nest egg account that got compound interest. Unfortunately someone broke out my window this year so that money went to replacing the window. But I look forward to the stares that the waitresses give me at bw3's as I drink my water and bounce after watching 150 dollars worth of games in one day.

I gave them a sob story about not being able to afford Sunday Ticket anymore, and that had been the only reason I had stayed with them for so long. I told him I was just going to look for a cheaper option (Dish, cable, etc).

Next thing you know I've got free Sunday Ticket, $20 a month off of my regular bill, and 4 months of free Showtime...

I rarely have outages. If there is heavy rain I'll typically lose signal for 5 or 10 minutes, but other than that I've had a pretty good experience with DTV. I live in WV though and the weather here is pretty mild, we might get a heavy storm once a month at the most.

You only watch half of the game anyways so what's it too ya? 5-10 minutes is way too long & it should never happen unless the power goes out. I didn't lose my internet connection so DTV doesn't have any excuse that can satisfy me to let them get away with shitty service.

I don't want to miss a fucking play especially when the game is on the line and a single play makes all the difference.

They claim 99% signal reliability so I'm calling them and telling them that is a lie. Three times I have lost reception and I'm a new customer from May 2015 so they can kiss my ass.

Been a customer since early 2012. Bill was over $100 starting April of this year, I called to get it lowered. Agreed to $30 off a month for 12 months. After agreeing to this I told them I needed to add a second TV, the guy told me I'd have to lock into a 2 year contract to do so. Ended up canceling my service in that phone call, which occurred on a Friday. I was gone that weekend; got back Monday and was annoyed about not having the royals game. Called back to see if they'd do anything to get my business back, ended up with $250 in gift cards, free Sunday ticket max for 2015, $50 off my bill for 12 months, brand new equipment and free install for my 2nd TV, free HBO., Cinemax, etc for 4 months and a $30 loyalty credit on my first bill. Worth it for 3 days of no tv.

Not gonna call or haggle with them... I found not having NFLST has been kinda nice. Sundays are a little more open and you don't feel guilty for not being home sitting on the couch watching ball all day.

I get probably half or more of the Chefs down here in OKC, the rest I can listen to on NFL mobile for a 1/10th of the cost of Sunday Ticket. Just a waste of an expense anymore for no more than what you get in return.

This will be year 2 without it and have to say I really don't miss it.

So I spent about 30 mins telling them my sob story about losing 24k a year, and I really need to figure out my monthly budgets, and my TV bill shouldn't give me anxiety, but it does, and I need to change things. I got $25 off a month off for 12 months and NFLST Max for free. Mama is happy! :thumb:

Me either especially when I am not paying for NFLST anymore...

So If I want to go play golf on Sunday with my son, I don't feel like I should be home watching the NFL games because of Sunday Ticket.

On top of that, I fly a shit ton of Sundays during the NFL season to stadiums across the US. It makes it even more of a waste because of that.

Teach me your ways

I use the same "song and dance" every year. I call right before they start charging for ST and ask them when my contract is up. Normal CSRs can't tell you that information, so they transfer me to the people who can. Then they go into their deal of "is there a reason you want to know when your contract is up?". I tell them that I can't afford ST because of "insert reason here" and that the only reason I'm with DTV is because of ST. I tell them that Comcast has been coming through our neighborhood recently offering really cheap deals. Depending on the CSR that I get.....they'll either go straight to the best offer or they'll start haggling to see what I can afford. The past couple of years I've gotten it for free. Shit....one year I got it for free AND they gave me a one time $250 bill credit.

Sounds like a good strategy and I'll use it come August. I'll tell them Century Link here gave me a good offer and a wireless set-top box so I can place a TV on my back patio, which DTV refused to do earlier this year unless I wanted to pay $200. I'll tell them I'd love to stay because of ST but it's too expensive and I'd rather have a TV on my patio. I'll see what they say. If nothing, I honestly just might switch the Century Link because I do know they offer cheap wireless set-top boxes where you can move any TV at any time. Sounds like a win-win for me either way. My contract is up November 1st so I have that going for me as well.

Been on DTV since 1998, no issues other than they bone you for NFLST each year...My last experience with satellite TV was over a decade plus ago when I was at home. My dad had Dish Network and that piece of shit wouldn't work with any sort of inclement weather at all. I'm hoping DirecTV is a little better, but even if it does suck dick in storms, I'll still be warm and cozy knowing I never gave Time Warner a fucking cent.

We have fiber internet, so we needed a stand-alone TV package, and those cunts at TWC are charging something like $150/month for 3 HD-DVR's and a generic package without HBO or anything else.

So we've had DTV for a year now and a lot of those intro promos are rolling off and our bill has jumped from $65 to about $115 now. (Choice + Sports Pack during baseball season) I tried calling twice and the first guy only offered me $10 off each installment of Sunday Ticket, so $60. The second guy I told to take off Sunday Ticket and then he offered $15 bill credit for 12 months and it was basically take it or leave it so I hung up. Should I just keep calling until I get someone who will work with me. I'm hoping for ST for free and knocking my bill down back to around $75 or so hopefully. Seeing what some of you have gotten I didn't think that was too ambitious, but will they not offer much since I'm still under contract for a year and have only been with them 1 year?

EDIT: So third try was a charm...got pretty much exactly what I was hoping for above. Bill is locked in at $77 for 6 months, free NFL ST, and in 6 months I can probably call again and maybe get more credits, cancel and pay only $100 ETF then and go somewhere else, or cut the cord altogether which I've been considering more and more if I can find a good option for live sports.

I just moved to Fairway, KS from California, and I wish I was haggling with Directv. We got Time Warner bundle and it is the sux. Big time the sux. Only one TV gets recorded content, and the wifi goes in and out more than Ron Jeremy's penis at a pr0n marathon.

I might get DTV next year, but being in KC I no longer need to find out-of-market Chiefs gamez.

Their wi-fi modems are awful. Get a regular cable modem and buy your own wireless router.

We have an Enhanced DVR. 6 recordings at once, and watch on any connected TV in the house. Unless TWC in the KC area doesn't offer that yet.

I'm very impressed with it actually.

I came in today and she was smiling....she called Directv, got the run around from a couple of operators and then got on the online chat. The person in the chat room, after being told that we were thinking of dropping the service due to price, gave her another telephone number - along with a PIN, and told her to talk to them.

She called and got free Sunday Ticket and the bill cut in half for a year.

My Wife said it took about 2 hours total - but the results were well worth the wait!

That's just how their business model is set up.

All TV providers work the same way. Reel you in with great intro rates for a year or so, then Jack them up so you can subsidize the new customers.

Several posters sell their laptop/game console access to us less fortunate ones; it makes the cost of ST more bearable for those with DTV, and since they can watch from their TV, they don't need the online access. Win/win

Finally found a bitch who wasn't a cunt. Those queers at DTV had charged me this month for Sunday Ticket even though I cancelled back in June. Only reason I noticed was my bill went up $40+ from the previous month. When I called in I explained I was on vacation but noticed my bill was too high and she clearly saw where I called to cancel ST but they still charged me. Asked if I had other questions and I immediately asked about my end of contract, which is November. Stated I was unable to get DTV to give my a way to put a TV on my patio and I was thinking of going with Century Link.

She offered two free wireless boxes so I can move my office TV and a TV to the patio. $20 off monthly bill for 12 months and half off Sunday Ticket Max for the year. I was on vacation and this call was taking too long so I took it. I requested no contract and stated people I know have no contract but she said they tried that for a while and no longer offer discounts without agreeing to 2 more years. No idea if that's true? I hate being tied to 2 more years but at least for the next year I'll have what I want. I can't wait to watch postseason Royals games in the pool and football on the patio all fall and winter!

Since Chiefs Pantalones had offered me his access to games, I would like to nominate ThaVirus for the honor of taking my place if Chiefs Pantalones agrees to this. ThaVirus is a solid poster and seems very nice. My internet access on my account is going to my best friend so he can watch Vikes games in the state of Washington.

Glad I saw this thread. Just called and got ST for around $167 ALL SET!!

Ditto. I hate playing this game every year. I called last Saturday talked to 3 different peeps and chatted with a tech online at the same time and the best they could do at that time was $60 off for the year starting @ $354! So I told them to take it off the bill. I call back Sunday morning, a sweet young lady answers that sounds all of about 20 and says, Half off, one time payment right now and your paid in full for the season! I took it. $167. Cause last year they told me $35 a month for 6 months but every month the bill was jacked up to $45 so I had to call and have it adjusted. Hell, I got charged on two different occasions for giving me "Free" HBO and then again for taking it off!
I've been a customer for 15 years and had ST from day 1 never been offered it Free!

Nice.

And yeah....you weren't getting out of it without signing a contract. It has more to do with the equipment than it does with the programming. I upgraded my equipment this time....so next year I'll end up at least paying for half of NFL Sunday Ticket because I can't use the "leave for somewhere else" line.

Yea, had I had more time and wasn't on vacation, I could have likely worked into free ST. But it's more than worth paying what comes to $10 a Chiefs game for me at the half off price. It's not about expecting it for free but their full asking price really is just silly.

Can't wait to upgrade my equipment with the wireless boxes to move a TV to the patio as needed. When it's not out there the TV will give our guests full use of a TV in their bedroom. We've been in this house 1.5 years without being able to that. I seriously can't wait to be outside on the patio or in the pool all year with the ability to watch TV. This doesn't take away from any of the discounts you guys are getting, but just so you know, DTV will give out the $XX for X months kinds of discounts just about any time you call and talk to retention. No NFLST is really required. They just sell it to you that way.

Now if you can get them to not charge you for NFLST at all, that's a hell of a deal.

I am about to buy a slingbox for my place in KC and try to get rid of directv. I am getting the paid google internet, but I don't know if OTA reception will be good enough. I haven't had a tv in my place there for years and I'm getting rid of my house and moving into a condo for easier maintenance, so I have no idea about reception that I'll be dealing with in the new neighborhood. I'm limited to an inside antenna. I'm going back next week for the home opener and setting up the pieces to try it out then. I don't want to have to pay for tv there just to get rid of it in LA.

Has anyone done this?

DTV fuckers are being stingy this year, or maybe I'm just unlucky. Subscription is up in November, so I called Monday and woman said they had "no deals on Sunday Ticket right now" that they could do for me and was ready to process my cancellation. I'm like, hold on, let me have another day or so to think about it.

So I call back yesterday, get a different chick and she looks at the notes from my Monday call and asks if I decided to stay with DTV or not so I'm like "it depends, I can't stay at the rate I'm currently paying" and she gives me the same line about not having any deals available! WTF

So I went ahead and processed the cancellation effective next Monday. I'm waiting to see if they have someone call me today or tomorrow to try to get me to stay (I've heard DTV does this sometimes after you cancel).

If not, I'm going to have my G/F who lives with me call and open a new DTV account at this address. I'm going to have her say we split up and I moved out and she wants to open an account now. Anyone tried that before?

I actually had the DTV customer service admit that a few weeks ago to me. They are trying to give loyal customers more discounts like new members. They finally gave me a good deal last time after talking to someone who knew what they were doing. She admitted they are working on it and while the offer wasn't as good as some on here, it was the best I have received in 3+ years with them. Half off Sunday Ticket which is fair enough for me, free HBO and movies for 3 months and $20 bill credit for 12 months.

This is how they all work.. They older customers subsidize the new ones.

I have AT&T and have to call every year to negotiate a new deal. It always works. I just say im leaving to a competitor if you dont give me the price i want. It helps if you quote the competitors price

Well, I called a little over a month ago and they wouldn't do anything. I called 2 days ago and they still wouldn't do anything. Today I called and told them I planned to drop them and eat the early termination fee. They asked why and I said because I normally get NFLST every year and couldn't get any offers my last 2 calls.

They ended up offering me Sunday Ticket Max for 50% off and I also got a $10 discount for 12 months. So I took it. I was worried I wasn't going to get anything. Until today they wouldn't budge an inch.

I am happy.

I called two weekends ago, started the conversation with "i want to talk to someone about my contract, and what the end date is"......immediately transferred (assuming to "retention").

I start the conversation by saying I need to find a way to save some money on my bill.....and I'm not happy that CBS was blacked out for nearly a month....

Lady says...."I see you've been with us for several years....and you pay on time.....I want to talk about the channels you use/dont use, but I also see we can probably get you the NFL sunday ticket for free....."

Didnt even have to ask.

I pressed my luck, and asked "...does that free cover the sunday ticket max" (as I love the red zone channel)......and she said no, but if I were to push my contract out a year (as it was technically up at the time of the call), she could offer some discounts to offset.

Long story short, cut out a few channels I dont watch, and got sunday ticket and max for about 7 bucks less a month than what I was paying before.

A worthwhile call for sure.

First off, i went to craigslist and looked for empty apartment listings. I used that address with my name and i was accepted because it's an apartment. Then it just let me sign up using a completely different account. I used my mom's cellphone as mines already in their database! lol

Bam, sundayticket on my ps4. i had to pay 250 for it, but it beats not having to have direct tv service! Anyways, im ready for sunday now.

they didnt ask for one. I used fake address, put in my visa info and that was it, success. When i talked to the CS guy to use my regular dtv account he told me he couldnt do it that way, if i was a new account i could. I told him, so if i call ba kcon another phone with a fresh account i can do this? he goes, well yeah, i dont see why not. I was like this is stupid, but ok.

When you submit for the online package you put your address in to be determined eligible. Then you have to put in your card info, which they say is checked to ensure your address is eligible to receive service.

I am just wondering if the "check" actually occurs, or if he was determined eligible and put in his regular billing info.

I was eligible last year and did it on my Xbox one. I just moved to an area that wasn't eligible. I was going to keep my billing address the same until I ordered the package again, but I received a notice that my card had been compromised in July, so I had to change it to have my card delivered.

I now know that was unnecessary.

All possible because At and T now owns Direct TV. they were so fucking stubborn, but ATT said fuck it, this will just net us more cash. All good now like i said. just use an empty apartment you find on craigslist use that address and it will accept it so you are clear to get Sunday ticket without having direct TV.> This is great for me. Ill probably never get direct tv every again because it was me just throwing money away.

Worth a phone call for sure. I called in this morning to see what they could do for me, keep in mind I've only been a customer since 2012. I simlpy explained to them now that the NFL is back I've seen a huge jump in my bill. Told them I'm having a hard time affording my bill and was considering moving to dish as my bill would be cheaper even with the ETF. The only reason I was with them was Sunday Ticket. The rep on the phone said he would see what he could do. Five minutes later he came back and offered $10 off my bill for 12 months plus free Sunday Ticket for the season. I accepted and they even credited my bill $252.

I got hosed.

I called and spoke to three different reps and the best they could do was give me the Sunday Ticket Max for $167.00 dollars. I've been a customer since 2003, so this sucks.

Last year, not only did I get Sunday Ticket for free, they also gave me a $200 Visa gift card.

In a couple of years, when my kids are older, I'm dumping DTV and heading down to sports bars in Hollywood to watch the games. Fuck them.

In some cases, that's the cause to your effect. They note big discounts and have a formula that lets them know how much they can give you each time you call. If you've been paying a shit ton of money, your discounts will be bigger, while if you've gotten a lot of recent discounts, they might not offer you as much.

It's certainly not a direct relationship, but I've seen reps on reddit describe that as being at least part of the formula.

I pay $40 / month for Internet.

I have parlayed that connection into free HBO, Showtime, WWE Network, Netflix, ESPN (and all ESPN networks) while paying $25/month for MLB.TV and $25/month for Sunday Ticket.

I have access to more god damn cable / premium TV than I did when I had cable.

The only thing I can't do is watch Cubs, Sox, Cardinals, Bulls, Blackhawks and Bears games (local cable sports). As a KC fan, that's ok ... but I do miss watching Bulls/Cubs

I figured as much, especially since I only paid $100 dollars for the MLB package this year.

But still, it's such a PITA to call them and sit on the phone every six months in order to get discounts. My bill jumped from $172 to $212 today and it took three reps to get it back to $172. I just don't understand why they don't just take care of their customers, especially people like me that have been with them for more than a decade, by automatically applying whatever discounts their offering.

The savings are definitely worth the 90 minutes I spent on the phone but it's pretty lame that it's required to go through those motions at least twice a year.

Within 5 years, I doubt you'll need to worry. Everything is going to be streamed. Cable better adapt.

I had to barter my mom's comcast bill down from like $240 - $120. I was pretty furious to know my mom, who doesn't even have HD, was paying that much for cable and internet. Eventually, the people who don't know any better will catch on and cable companies won't have anybody else to leach on.

I didn't expect it "free" this year nor did I expect another Visa Gift Card but it took 90 minutes and four transfers before I was offered a discount of any kind.

I almost didn't order it, especially since the Ticket is free this weekend and the Chiefs are on national TV the following two weeks, but I like having the option of watching as many afternoon games as possible and not get stuck with the Raiders or Chargers each week.

Blech.

You should still be able to change your DNS settings. That's a pretty basic router function. Even if not, I bet you can do it directly on your XB1. At least they have instructions for the 360.

Tell people to order the cheapest DTV NFL streaming package ($200), assuming they can't use a student's credentials and get it for $100. They will get auto-upgraded to the max ($350) package after purchase.

In short, if you're eligible, sign up for the cheapest streaming option and then you'll get auto upgraded! At least, that's what I was told =)

no but they'll verify you're still in college ... or you'll have to show proof like a valid student ID ... if they can't find you right away by entering your name and D.O.B.

worst case scenario, I'm told, if you sign up for the $49.99 / month and pay 4 installments ($200) you'll get auto upgraded to Max

Used a VPN to purchase via Argentina. Was $175 from Netherlends and $129 from Argentina ($99 for team only) when I was researching prices. Most of the European nations were higher priced than South America. Last year Panama was the cheapest for me, but I was too lazy to keep searching after seeing Argentina's rate.

Just thought I'd let others know to price search by country when going this route.
