Look at Steve Smith last year destroying worlds with his walking crutch. Wayne could do that too.

Pumped for this thread! A few quick house-keeping items:

1. Need daily pic updates. Clay was usually really good at sharing those, when he wasn't melancholy and (as) weird.
2. Still have that 2nd Twitter i-frame.
3. Need those articles, with nice formatting, being pasted in here. (One of the dudes with a Native-American themed screen-names is always sharing ones from the KC Star. I appreciate nice formatting)
4. If anyone catches a good, solid tweet, embed it in a post and call it out.

Everyone-Disclaimer on the RMSWeather account.
It is an account that I use to tweet current weather from my school weather station. I set up lists for other science things too-and a Chiefs one for me.

PLEASE-do not tweet anything nasty to RMSWeather. It is a school thing that I have control of and maintain. I don't let it get involved in anything outside of science.

Wilson missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a back strain, but was a full participant in individual and full team drills on Friday. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he suffered the injury while preparing for training camp on his own.

Tight end Demetrius Harris missed his third straight practice while recovering from a second foot surgery. He was seen rehabbing on the sideline.

Quarterback Tyler Bray observed practice for the third straight day but did not participate as he recovers from a torn ACL he suffered in January.

Rookie wide receiver Chris Conley missed his second straight practice with a knee sprain but was seen rehabbing on the sideline.

Rookie running back Keshawn Hill did not practice Friday. He went down with a hamstring injury on Thursday.

Chiefs safety Eric Berry did not practice Friday, but that was part of the plan, according to Reid, who said Wednesday that Berry would have the practice off.

Quarterbacks Alex Smith and Chase Daniel did not practice on Friday either, but the Chiefs planned on giving the veteran quarterbacks the morning off.

Chiefs QB Aaron Murray Takes Advantage at Friday's Practice

While veterans Alex Smith and Chase Daniel got the day off, Aaron Murray took advantage

Coming into his second season, the Kansas City Chiefs fifth-round pick out of Georgia in the 2014 NFL Draft, quarterback Aaron Murray, is confident heading into his second training camp.

“It’s about mastering the playbook now,” Murray explained. “Trying to show the coaches that I can take what they taught me last year and have that translate over with the knowledge of the playbook, my footwork, things like that.

“I want to show them that I’ve worked on those things during the offseason and that I’m moving in the right direction.”

Murray had the opportunity to show coach Andy Reid and company his development during Friday morning’s practice as veterans Alex Smith and Chase Daniel were given the day off.

This meant Murray was given all the reps at quarterback, which is something he took advantage of.

"It was awesome,” Murray explained, “because probably starting tomorrow, my reps are going to be cut down a lot. Alex [Smith] obviously gets the majority of the time, then Chase [Daniel], and then I'm after that. So to get a day where I was getting all the reps really helps with timing. It helps with confidence, too.

“I have certain routes I haven't thrown a lot, so to be able to rep them out a little bit gives you some confidence going out there and competing the rest of the time."

Because Murray was the only quarterback taking reps, that meant a lot of individual instruction from the coaching staff in between plays and positional periods.

“After each play, coach Reid was giving me little tips,” he explained. “Then, in between periods, I had [quarterbacks coach] Matt Nagy and [offensive coordinator] Doug Pederson coming up to me and saying what to work on between periods.

“I think it was a huge day for me. I definitely enjoyed it.”

Although he enjoyed all the reps, Murray was going to wait and see how his arm feels tomorrow after making all the throws.

“I made a lot of throws today so we'll see how the arm feels later,” he said laughingly. “But, right now, I'm definitely very happy with the amount of reps I got today."

One noticeable difference for Murray throughout OTAs and practice on Friday was the lack of a knee brace, which he wore last year at camp as he was just a few months removed from knee surgery to fix a torn ACL suffered during his senior season at Georgia.

“It feels so much better,” Murray noted. “The brace was great last year just because of where I was at in recovery, but obviously not having it on has been fantastic. Just being able to be free, move around and not feeling restricted.

“It's nice to be fully healthy, going out there to compete and do everything I need to do."

The rest of Murray’s teammates arrived on Friday afternoon as the Chiefs prepare for their first team practice coming on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Kansas City Chiefs' camp to-do list: Fix a leaky run defense
By Adam Teicher
Friday, July 31, 2015

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The turning point for the Kansas City Chiefs and their run defense last year happened in the first half of the season's first game. One of their top run defenders, linebacker Derrick Johnson, tore his Achilles tendon in the second quarter against the Tennessee Titans and was lost for the year.

The Titans ran wild against the Chiefs after Johnson's departure on their way to an upset victory.

From a personnel standpoint, things would only get worse for the Chiefs. They lost another top run defender, end Mike DeVito, for the season in the same game with the same injury as Johnson. Safety Eric Berry played in just six games because of injuries and illness.

Each of the players is back, Berry somewhat improbably after he was diagnosed last November with Hodgkins' lymphoma. This sparked hope the Chiefs will be a lot more formidable against the run.

The Chiefs allowed at least 140 rushing yards in five of their seven losses last season, including the game against the Titans. The defeat that perhaps stung the most was a November loss to the Oakland Raiders, who were winless at the time. The Chiefs allowed 179 yards and six yards per carry in a game that would have eventually put them in the playoffs had they won.

But a new problem surfaced when the Chiefs lost nose tackle Dontari Poe, who recently had surgery to remove a herniated disk. The likelihood is that the Chiefs will play all or at least a significant portion of their season without Poe.

He won't be easy to replace. The 346-pound Poe is difficult to clear from the middle of the line.

The Chiefs will try at least initially with Jaye Howard. They may eventually move DeVito over the nose.

Whatever they do, whether Poe plays a down this season, the Chiefs need to consistently shut down the opponent's running game.

Absolutely no chance of that.

If you have ever known anyone that has had herniated disc surgery, just ask them...The Chiefs know better than to count on a significant contribution from Dontari this season. Better that it happened now rather than later because it allows for some type of real alternate plan.

I actually see a silver lining in the Dontari Poe surgery.

He's a guy that has worn down over the course of a season every year. We can see it in his play and 2013 was a major beating on his body since he never came off the field. 2014 he faded during the second half also. With him coming into the season presumably around week 5 or 6 his body won't have the typical pounding and he'll be better prepared for the post season push. And hopefully we find that Jaye Howard can step up and maybe even once Poe is back we can all have a sigh of relief knowing Howard can spell Poe when Poe needs a break during games.

Marcus Peters is pretty impressive I must say. Very aggressive and physical, even in shells. He jumped one route one seemed to come out of nowhere...didn't make the pick but should have.

Maclin absolutely burned some poor shit in team play for what would have been about a 60 yard touchdown. It wasn't close.

Was at camp today. Berry did team drills and full practice with both the 1's and the 2's.

Kielce is going to be a force this year. He caught everything that came his way and seemed to always be open.

Mike Catapano might be the largest human being I've ever seen in person.

Our defense, if it can stay healthy, will be one of the best in the league.

Derrick Johnson looks fantastic...hasn't lost a step.

That was Marcus Cooper. Funny you called him a poor shit. LMAO

EXCELLENT!

How did the 1st string OL look?

The Chiefs went with their most experienced and probably most logical combination for their starting offensive line. Eric Fisher and Donald Stephenson were the tackles, Ben Grubbs and Jeff Allen the guards and Eric Kush the center. Rookie Mitch Morse, a second-round draft pick, was the second-team center. Per the previous link.

If he doesn't totally fuck things up during training camp and preseason, he'll be the Week 1 starter.

Albert Wilson is the Glitch in the Matrix. Add Him Now.
December 19, 2014 | By Jon Moore

matrix
You know, I know this steak doesn’t exist. I know that when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious. After nine years, you know what I realize? [Takes a bite of steak] Ignorance is bliss.

In all likelihood, Chiefs wide receiver Albert Wilson will never exist in the world of fantasy football relevance; considering that he was an undrafted (underrated?) player out of a Sun Belt school, that isn’t a bold assumption.

However, despite this backstory, what I’ve recently learned about Albert Wilson makes me want to live in a blissfully ignorant world. I know that it doesn’t make sense for me to write optimistic things about him, but I’ll be damned if there isn’t something to see here.

After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you never add Albert Wilson to your dynasty rosters and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the Albert Wilson rabbit-hole goes. Remember, all I’m offering is the truth. Nothing more.

THE GLITCHES IN THE MATRIX

When it comes to evaluating college wide receiver prospects, I am obsessed with age-adjusted performance. In case you missed it, consider checking out the 50 most precocious college receiver seasons of the decade. I love to evaluate their performance for every season of their career and identify guys who were outstanding at a young age. The glitch in this Matrix is that for guys like Wilson, who played for three seasons with an FCS program (Georgia State transitioned to FBS in his fourth year), I have to proactively go find his FCS statistics. This exercise made sense for a small-school, size-speed specimen like Charles Johnson, but for a 5’9 202lb guy like Albert Wilson, I figured it could wait.

Oops. As it turns out, Wilson was utterly ridiculous at a very young age in college, accounting for more than 40 percent of his team’s receiving yards at both age 19 and age 20. But, more on that in a minute.

Another glitch with Wilson is that Georgia State re-classified to FBS program status during his senior year, which means that Wilson’s intriguing 2013 stats don’t show up in the Sports-Reference play index. In other words, if I want to look up other players who have posted seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards and 200+ rushing yards, like Albert did in 2013, he won’t appear in that search. Here’s what I mean:

Albert Wilson 1000 rec 200 rush

Props to Shawn Siegele, Matt Freedman (who touched on Wilson in his latest Wideout Report) and Russell Clay for waking me up to the relevance of college rushing stats by wide receivers.

Not a bad list, huh? I’d say that list captures just about all the premium smaller receivers in recent years, with the exception of Percy Harvin and TY Hilton, who barely missed the receiving yards threshold. Wilson should be on that list for his 2013 in which he went for 1177 receiving yards and 251 rush yards.

Related to these rushing stats, probably another glitch with Wilson is that despite his minimal height, his weight of 200+ lbs is actually quite respectable and, like Brandin Cooks, gives him a very solid Body Mass Index (BMI). In fact, there is probably a case to be made that Wilson is built more like a running back than a wide receiver, which brings us to his most successful comparables, based on similar body type (weight between 192-202lbs and BMI over 28). *Pick 270 means they were undrafted.

WR Draft Pick College F Age Ht Wt 40 Bench Vert Broad Shuttle 3Cone Speed Score BMI
Albert Wilson 2014 270 Georgia St 21.5 69.4 202 4.43 10 37.5 123 4.21 7.00 104.9 29.8
Pierre Garcon 2008 205 Mt Union 21.4 71.9 210 4.42 20 36.5 125 4.19 6.90 110.0 28.6
Golden Tate 2010 60 Notre Dame 21.4 70.3 199 4.42 17 35.0 120 4.34 7.12 104.3 28.6
Victor Cruz 2010 270 Umass 23.1 71.6
206 4.47 16 41.5 125 4.17 6.96 103.2 28.2
Kendall Wright 2012 20 Baylor 22.1 70.3 196 4.49 4 38.5 121 4.18 6.93 96.4 28
With the exception of bench press reps and draft position, this cohort is strikingly similar. Note that while draft pick is a tremendously significant predictor of future success, I am okay with the disparity here. My thought process is that a lot of lowly drafted, or undrafted, players never pan out because they never get the opportunity. In the case of Victor Cruz and Pierre Garcon, they were able to get on the field and their talent took over. I think the same applies to Wilson, who has been getting starter reps for the Chiefs over the past two weeks. Now that he’s on the field, I’m less worried about his undrafted status.

To understand how the college careers of these players relate, I’ve mapped out each of their college seasons based on age and market share of team’s receiving yards in games played. Note that the trendline represents how 150-point fantasy receivers fared in their college days.

Albert Wilson College Career visual

Relative to his offense, Albert Wilson was the most dominant in the cohort at ages 19, 20 and 21, and was above the trendline for all three of those years. Amazingly, over that three year span (2011-2013) Wilson accounted for an otherworldly 42 percent of Georgia State’s receiving yards. Honestly, at that level, I almost don’t care about the possibility that Wilson was merely the best among a bunch of lousy options at Georgia State; my research leads me to believe that young dominance like this at any level is related to a higher probability of success in the NFL.

Speaking of which, remember earlier when I said we would revisit Wilson’s age-adjusted score? Simply put, if I had known about Wilson when I wrote my 50 most precocious college receiver seasons article, he would have appeared on the list twice, with his 2011 season appearing in the top 10. And for anyone who is concerned about Wilson’s market share stats being deceiving, as they can be in some offensive schemes, consider that for his career he had 3,190 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns. Here is list of all the players I could find who had 3,000+ and 20+ for their careers and played their final season at age 22 or younger.

I’d say there is a great chance that Wilson and Avery are the only two on the roster next year. Yes, the Chiefs like to use their tight ends and running backs a lot in the passing game, but it’s not like Andy Reid hates receivers. In his final four seasons in Philadelphia he had two 700+ wide receivers on each of those teams. I think KC has just been such receiver waste land that he’s leaned on those other positions lately.

So, why has it taken so long for Albert Wilson to surface as a prospect to know? I think a combination of his college team’s situation, a historically great class of receivers and his 5’9 height have made it easy to overlook him. Now that he’s getting playing time, owners should consider adding him in dynasty leagues that roster more than 20 offensive players. Wilson’s young dominance, athleticism and outstanding production make him a great low-cost addition.

He was owed $3 million in salary and bonuses. It was inevitable the Seahawks would have to cut someone to clear cap room after signing Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner to big contract extensions. He's a 4-3 DT, not a 3-4 NT. Way too small to play NT and KC has enough DE's.

Ah shoot, didn't realize he wouldn't be our nose.

Yeah, we're loaded on the DE front for our 3-4. Especially if Irving pans out.

Jaye Howard being up to 330 lbs makes me feel WAY better about the NT position while Poe is out. That is awesome news.

Absolutely. He know's the team and is a lot cheaper. Keep the money we have and save it for next off season. Poe will not be out for long.

I'm not sure about that, but I do believe when Poe does come back he won't miss a beat due to his age and work ethic.

Our new RB. Won't be more than a camp body, but has a fun tape.

Well, if "suck" has been the average, then below-average should result in Quarterbackocide.

3 (Kissel) or 4(Tiecher) interceptions and 4 pass breakups

I wish Direckshun were here so I could teabag him about Marcus Peters being the correct selection for the Chiefs way back in the middle of March.

You know, back when he picked Cam Erving, I called him out on his shit, and he said, "Well then, who would you have picked?"

Marcus Peters is going to fucking baus. I don't give a shit about Phillip Gaines. Gaines can go fuck a goat.

Marcus Peters, baby. That's all we really need.

ThaVirus

Gaines is still incredibly important.

Having three good CBs as opposed to two is the difference between actually being good and seeing guys like Dunta Robinson and Chris Owens get significant playing time.

I love Peters, but Gaines is also going to be a damn good CB. The fact that we have those two guys on rookie contracts for the next few years is awesome.

I'd rather see Peters starting than Gaines. Once Smith comes back from suspension, moves Gaines back down to bitch nickel.

But don't move Peters.

Yep. Peters needs to be starting from day 1 (obviously he'll have to with Smith out). But once Smith gets back....Gaines needs to be moved to the NB and Peters needs to be outside.

RealSNR

If Gaines is that damn good, then let Smith piddle around as the backup once he comes back from suspension.

Peters is the crown jewel, though.
