The Minnesota Vikings announced plans on Tuesday to become the first franchise to install lactation suites for nursing mothers in an NFL stadium.

The team will install two Mamava lactation suites at its temporary home stadium of TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis by its home game with the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 18, according to a statement released by the team.

Another two of the suites will be installed at the Vikings' training facility and headquarters in the Minneapolis suburb of Eden Prairie and in the team's downtown Minneapolis office.

When the team moves into its new home, downtown's U.S. Bank Stadium, in the fall of 2016, the suites will also be making the move. The team said it is also exploring a nursing area that will allow mothers to stay connected to the game while nursing.

"While we certainly encourage breastfeeding mothers to nurse where they feel comfortable, we have become increasingly aware of the need many moms have for the privacy and comfort that these Mamava lactation suites provide," Vikings Chief Operating Officer Kevin Warren said in the statement. "In addition, we are always striving to create the most positive workplace environment within our organizations and the pods at our two headquarters will benefit many of our female employees."

The Mamava suites are self-contained, mobile 4-foot by 8-foot pods with benches, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump and door that can be locked for privacy.

The suites will also be available to attendees at other events, including college football games at TCF Bank Stadium and Super Bowl LII at the new stadium in 2018.

Now wait just a second...

Super Bowl LII at the new stadium in 2018

The stadium is not even built, it is at a cold weather site, but SB LII is already been awarded to Minnesota? :spock:

1. It's an indoor stadium.
2. That's not uncommon. I believe NYC hosted the SB right after the new stadium was finished there a couple years ago.

If I got a ticket, would it be for one visit to these suites, or good for the whole game? Ballpark dogs upset my stomach, so that would be just the ticket to smoothe things out in there.

Nursing stations I can almost understand. However, I'm not sure that I would take a baby that young to Arrowhead Stadium. Not that it's not family friendly, it's just so loud. Not good for baby's ears.

Anyway, lactation stations? Knowing the rules for bags and what's allowed in the stadium, I'm wondering how on earth you'd fit a pump, bottles, etc into one of those clear bags. And who is going to breast pump at a friggin' football game?

why do they need breastfeeding stations when women want to prove the breastfeeding in public is perfectly acceptable and beautiful?

All i ask for is a little consistency.

one minute you're sexy
the next you're not a 'sex object'

one minute you want to be treated the same as a man
then next you want your door open and treated like 'a lady'

If a handsome guy flirts with you at work, it's cool
If a ugly guy flirts with you at work, it's sexual harassment

one minute you're showing cleavage and 'being hot'
the next, your boobs are functional and a natural thing ... why is everyone looking?

The Chiefs should set up little booths like that around the concourse for different weird fetishes. Have the Rex Ryan Foot Sniffing Booth, the Ray Rice Bitch Slapping Booth, The OJ Simpson Cutlery Booth, the Eric Winston "That's Thickening" Booth, the Matt Casshole "Fetal Baby" Booth, and for $100 you can indulge in whatever your particular weird fetish is for 15 minutes with a trained Arrowhead fetish specialist. He's 10.Kids don't even form memories until they're three or so. You might get by with bringing your kindergarten aged child to a Chiefs game. Maybe. A ten year old probably had an awesome time that he'll cherish. As long as he could see the game, as I imagine there were a lot of people standing constantly at that one.

I saw some poor bastard with his newborn strapped to the front of his chest at a Royals game a few weeks back. It was a hot and miserable day. Like 103 heat index. I can't imagine he or that child enjoyed any of the game or the day in general.

But they probably got some cute family photos to get likes on Facebook so it was a real win in the end!

Good ol Mike Aviles hit a homerun when Cleveland played the White Sox a few weeks ago and cracked a 2 year olds skull. No joke, the mom had taken a 6 year old girl to the bathroom and the 2 year old was sitting next to ol dad who happened to be holding a 7 month old baby when it happened. We're talking about newborns because the topic is about breastfeeding.

Newborns and infants. Children who don't have teeth yet. They breastfeed.

It's a really really bad idea to bring them to football games. Leave them at home with a babysitter. If you bring a child that young to a professional football game, you're a shitty parent.

When you're saving $1500 a game from firing your mascot, you could've used it on better things. Let's not pretend that there is a huge crowd of tiny children who still breastfeed at a professional football game. It comes off as a PR move to increase popularity than a logical must have decision.

There's certain places where you think a small child shouldn't be there; movie theaters, theme parks, etc. Honestly what would the point be of taking your breastfed child to Arrowhead? Fine, you gave the kid earplugs so let's just assume that will eliminate any damage to the child's hearing, but there are soooooooo many other risks. I won't question their parenting decisions, but I would rather my child stay with grandparents or aunts/uncles than to go to an NFL game and expect the environment to conform to my decision to bring my child.

The majority of children who breastfeed are between 0-18 months. Do you disagree?

And that's who this station is meant for.

No, this station that you've chosen to be so upset over is also for mothers to pump their breasts. When we nurse, I can aim for a hail mary and shoot someone in the eye from 60 yards. The copious amounts we can produce can only be matched by the tears Chiefs fans produce. It's heavy, and painful.

The title said "breastfeeding suites," not "lactation suites."

I didn't read the OP article and probably should have, but there's a pretty clear difference between a "breastfeeding suite," an act that connotes a needed or wanted space for privacy and "lactation suite," which moreso demands that privacy but for different reasons.
