Smith sitting the bench behind Green for 2005 and behind Huard for 2006-2007 might have turned him in to a serviceable starter.

Saunders could have been hired to replace DV. The defense doesn't improve for years on end, sure, but by 2008-2009 -assuming Smith never develops this apparent cowardice and never gets his shoulder injured- could be a QB that's in the top half of the league in passing...
