No offense Joe, but I'd like to see the lions pull one off here.

So tired of the same old teams dominating everyone, its starting to feel like the 90's all over again when it was the Bills, Cowboys and Niners and everyone else was just happy to be there.

I wonder if there will come a time when quarterbacks take less so their team can maintain and upgrade their offensive line.

What a terrible patchwork of an offensive line - Wilson is running for his life - He takes too many hits.

Dylan

If Dez is smart, he will not rush back - Foot injuries are tricky.

Why rush back for a limited QB (Weeden) ?

He is a great QB. I've never argued otherwise. But most everyone on here is so QB obsessed they think that's it. You're missing one of the best defenses of this generation. They held the Lions to 3 first half points. They held Calvin Johnson to like 22 yards. Russell Wilson could've led his offense to 2 FGs and still had the lead.

Meanwhile Andrew Luck has had to play with a below average defense his entire career. It's not even close to the same situation, and saying Wilson is clearly better because of it is a joke.

You make great points that I absolutely don't disagree with. This defense is elite. I'll give you that, but this isn't Alex Smith back there taking advantage of the elite talent around him. That defense was in tact with Trevaris Jackson (sic) and he didn't do shit. Russell is worth every penny of his contract, and he's so fucking obsessed with his image you just don't have to worry about him getting lazy, unmotivated, etc. He's working on branding himself and his work ethic is strong. He'll carve his own nitch in this league and most likely be a Hall of famer before it's over. I'd take him over any QB in the league right now. Hands down. Rodgers included, because of his age.

GloryDayz

tk13
10-05-2015, 08:25 PM
No way. Rodgers is better than both Wilson and Luck. You give Rodgers a defense that allows 14 points a game... they'll make a run at the 2007 Patriots record. I mean that.

Wilson's no doubt a great QB though. I don't dispute that. Even if the guy is crazy and thinks he can cure concussions by drinking magic water, among other things.

GloryDayz

Wilson's no doubt a great QB though. I don't dispute that. Even if the guy is crazy and thinks he can cure concussions by drinking magic water, among other things.

Oh, you're reaching my soul now. Because Russell is fucking crazy. Legit. The concussion water was just the cherry on the sundae. Yeah, Rodgers is better. But who would you take RIGHT NOW to lead your franchise? Aaron has 6 years left, tops. Russ has about 15. For that reason I'll take him.

tk13
10-05-2015, 08:34 PM
Yeah but half of Wilson's game is scrambling around and avoiding sacks and making things happen. When he's Rodgers' age he won't be able to do that as well. He's a smart guy though so he should be able to adjust, but will he be as effective as he is now? I don't know. It's why I like Luck and Rodgers over Wilson and Kap to begin with. A traditional pocket passer doesn't have to learn how to live in the pocket.

Truth is, Wilson is the better QB from that draft class. How much data do we need?

That's what I am saying. It's all 100% up to their interpretation of rules that have seemingly 50 interpretations.

I watched Maclin have a catch upheld in the Chiefs game where he was hit and didn't complete the catch while he ninja chucked the ball into his teammates on the sideline and thought to myself, "damn, that's going to get overturned." But nope, it was somehow upheld as a catch. But then in the NFC playoffs Dez clearly caught the ball, and then tried to reach out and score a TD in another motion, saw the ball pop loose because of the turf ... and suddenly that's not a catch.

I mean ... omg. It's baffling.

I agree their division is terrible. But you're the one being the hypocrite. Peyton Manning spent most of his career beating up that division, and you've made a living here saying he's the greatest. Luck does it, it's a knock against him. That's absurd. The only competition Manning ever had in that division was McNair, and the Titans weren't any good after 2003 because they gutted the team due to salary cap problems.
Same reason he came to the AFC West, IMO. Easiest to dominate.

I just think it's hilarious that you guys are so outraged by this ...

Calvin fumbles the ball into the end zone ... no one is within 5 yards of KJ Wright and the ball would have simply rolled out of the end zone but instead the defender made a "heads up" play (at least I thought) and just assisted it out of the end zone ...

but since there is some dumbass technicality in the NFL rule book ... now the NFL is a huge fucking sham and it's a huge fucking embarrassment somehow because of another dumb rule in the dumbest rule book in sports

hilarious outrage right now ... and let it be known ONCE AGAIN ... I had stated earlier I wished the Lions scored there because I wanted to see Russell in one of his patented 2 minute drills ... that would have been exciting

No, it's a lot more like the refs blew a call.

Yep. It is clear they blew the call. I can't argue that because you are right. I just read the rule. I know this. That's really not my point.

I wish the NFL would have also blew the call on the 4th and 2 Dez Bryant TD catch (I mean drop) last year, too. Because he caught that ball and made one of the clutchest plays in NFL history only to see the NFL not blow that call and rule it incomplete because another way a dipshit NFL rule is worded in the rule book.

So you're right. The refs blew the call tonight. But IMO, that blown call was the right fucking call because had the Seattle defender not try and make a smart play Seattle still wins because no Detroit player had any chance whatsoever of recovering that ball. There were two outcomes. Wright picks up the ball and just continues his momentum out of the end zone for a safety...or Wright muffs the ball and it goes out of bounds for a safety. So unless Wright decided to bicycle kick the ball back to Detroit Calvin fumbled the game away ...

you know, unless you learn after the game they broke rule 1212302132180321082132183821 A in the NFL rule book stating you can't make a smart defensive play at the end of a game when a receiver fumbles the ball into the end zone

Again, I'm not arguing the rule. I'm not. It's clearly a rule. I read it.

I'm arguing why it's a fucking rule. It's stupid. It's as dumb as the NFL correctly ruling against the Dez catch last year.

I'm sorry ... I'm a Chiefs fan. I also saw the Chiefs win a game because Rudd threw his helmet off in a game the Chiefs "lost" which turned into a personal foul which turned into a FG and a Chiefs win. Yay for the Chiefs ... but come on ... they didn't deserve that win.

I'm not big on 'technicality' wins. Calvin fumbled the game away. Wright made a smart play (so everyone thought). Rule 1203821302183210382102138210823A dash 38430884320083284328323208340833B clearly shows Detroit should have gotten the ball back on the 1/2 yard line. Cool. Stupid nonetheless.

Yeah, I guess everyone in the world realizes that now. And that's not what I'm arguing. But I disagree with you. It was a smart play. You really expect all 2000+ NFL players to know that ridiculous rule in the NFL's ridiculous rule book? Dude made a lightning fast decision on a play and as someone who didn't know that rule (as well as a lot of other people who played professional football apparently) I thought, damn ... nice heads up play by Wright.

Instead, we learn he broke a rule.

So Detroit should have gotten the ball back. And they would have probably scored. All on a dipshit technicality.

So you know what? I personally am happy they blew the call. Because they did. They flat out blew it. Clearly. I read it. I can't even argue that.

I wish they would have blown the call last year in the Dallas/Green Bay playoff game where Dez "didn't catch the ball." They got that one right, though. Good for them. I guess.

I realize everyone loves arguing with me but I just don't understand why everyone is so appalled the NFL missed a call on a play where Calvin fumbled the ball out of the end zone.

You really think Detroit deserved to possess the ball there because of a technicality? I swear on my fucking life that if Charles fumbled the ball out of the end zone there and the same thing happened to the Chiefs I couldn't even be mad about the call being missed. I don't think technicalities should determine football games.

Was I happy 15 years ago when the Browns got fucked against the Chiefs? Sure. I'll take a technicality win ... but if the officials missed him throwing his helmet before the play was over would I have sworn off the NFL for missing a bullshit technicality penalty? Uhm, no, probably not ... because none of us would have ever known that was even a thing.

I mean, I'm totally not against common sense being applied to the NFL rule book ... because this black/white stuff is just bullshit.

Detroit should have gotten the ball back there, I guess ... but they didn't deserve it ... so I am glad the call was blown.

I don't think the rule itself is that crazy. The funny thing is if they called it a TD, the Lions would've lost the ball on the review. They could change it to a fumble but couldn't call the illegal bat. That's a problem.

Even if they had ruled TD, replay could have reversed it to a fumble but could not have added an illegal bat. The technicality and deserve argument doesn't hold water here. I mean, great plays get negated and called back on penalties away from the play constantly. Those are really "technicalities" as well. The reason for the rule, I would guess is to encourage a decisive scrum for possession in the end zone. Think if he'd fallen on the ball, it had squirted out and back into Johnson's outstretched hands. That would be drama. Isn't totally removing the ball from the field of play goes against the spirit of the game. At least I would assume that's the reason for the rule. It's probsbly outdated and needs to be changed but that's a whole other matter.

Tirico just said they talked to Dean Blandino, who agreed it should've been an illegal bat and remained Lions ball.

Why did Blandino not change it? The back judge was staring right at it. Why not get together and make he correction?

New York Newspapers - This from the New York Post after a Dallas win over the Giants in Sept:

NFL ADMITS OFFICIALS BOTCHED TWO CALLS IN DALLAS GAME
The NFL has acknowledged that officials made two game-altering mistakes during the New York Giants 27-26 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday night. The first was a bogus pass interference call on cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromarties on a 3rd-and-4 incomplete pass that directly led to a Cowboys touchdown in the third quarter.

Worse, the officials did not call an obvious holding penalty by a Dallas defensive back against tight end Daniel Fells on the now infamous 3rd-and-goal incomplete pass by quarterback Eli Manning with 1:43 to play. If that flag had been thrown, the Giants could have simply knelt on the ball and run out the clock, winning 26-20.

I'm only appalled because everyone seems so appalled by a really fucking stupid rule and now assume the NFL, once again, is rigged. It just gets old. Hell, NFL players and former NFL players didn't even know the rule. Hell, both SVP and Stanford Steve are both saying, "meh, we didn't really know the rule, either. We thought maybe?"

It was a fluke play and the officials botched it. But I am not going to be up in arms about a team being fucked because they didn't get a ball back they had no business getting back if the defender didn't commit a penalty no one really knew existed or how to be called correctly.

Hell that old guy on ESPN after the game gave us 18 different interpretations including one where he said, "it was going to be a safety no matter what but Detroit would have gotten the ball back and blah blah blah" to the point where ESPN had to cut him off because he just confused the fuck out of everyone on screen

This expert official's explanation is shedding a lot of light on the state of NFL officiating. His explanations are completely wonky about why its a safety for punter to kick it out and no flag gets thrown.

He did explain it i thought. Punter of QB punching it out the endzone is not a change of possession you take the safety and punt away. It still is a dumb rule and I cant wait for the league explanation for why the rule is even in the books. Usually its a game in the past that forced a rule change but this is a new on on me.
