I've been a Royals fan longer than any other sports team, since I could walk and talk really.

But 160 games is a mind numbingly long time to maintain avid interest, and the intricacies of baseball strategy detract from the visceral experience for me.

Baseball fandom is a low impact, crack a beer and lounge at the stadium or listen over the AM dial while you tinker on your jalopy pursuit, not a rabid passionate one.

That's how your fandom works and that's fine. There's nothing wrong with that, far from it. But that's not true for everyone, of course. I've watched every Jays game I possibly could (at least when not working or out doing something else) for last 20 years now and I'm sure there are many more just like me. In fact, I know there were several diehards on this forum who kept posting in Royals game threads through the many bad years.

But you were denigrating Royal fandom on the basis of post count.

I simply don't enjoy dissecting baseball. I ignore for long periods, just because there's so many games. But when I enjoy it, I enjoy it like a film or concert, not like a chess tournament.

Nah, I was just pointing out a fact. I know KC has a good fanbase, I lived there for a long time. But more fans show up and start giving a damn when teams win. A lot more. It's the same in Kansas City, Toronto, and everywhere else.

I simply don't enjoy dissecting baseball. I ignore for long periods, just because there's so many games. But when I enjoy it, I enjoy it like a film or concert, not like a chess tournament.
And again, that's fine. But there are people who enjoy baseball differently than that.

And again, that's fine. But there are people who enjoy baseball differently than that.

I understand that. I have a modicum of awareness of who Bob Costas and Billy Crystal are, and the kind of fans they represent. I wouldn't have brought it up if you hadn't cited the lack of discussion as evidence of the lack of fandom.

I don't know how to explain it, but I perversely enjoy maintaining a level of magical naivete when it comes to baseball. There's something about, even if you know all the players and their idiosyncrasies inside and out, sitting there and thinking 'maybe this time the pitcher will hit a home run!!'

Look at all the foolishness in the Jays Ranger's final game. That was bananas and nothing preceded it to clue you into how bananas it was going to get and how fast.

I don't like everything about baseball, but what I like is that, and analyzing it is like trying to write a mathematical formula for a great guitar solo.

Blue Jays fan arrested after hitting baby with beer during Game 5 fracas

Thanks to Wednesday's dramatic Game 5 win (TOR 6, TEX 3 (http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gametracker/boxscore/MLB_20151014_TEX@TOR)), the Blue Jays (http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/teams/page/TOR/toronto-blue-jays) are going to the ALCS. The game came down to the seventh inning (http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25340061/that-blue-jays-rangers-7th-inning-may-be-the-craziest-youll-ever-see), which featured a wild go-ahead run for the Rangers (http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/teams/page/TEX/texas-rangers), three misplays by Elvis Andrus (http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/players/playerpage/1099374/elvis-andrus), and a dramatic go-ahead home run by Jose Bautista (http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/players/playerpage/392528/jose-bautista).
Unfortunately, that seventh inning was marred by Blue Jays fans who threw beer and cans and all sorts of other stuff onto the Rogers Centre field following that weird play in which the Rangers took the lead. Fans threw stuff onto the field again after Bautista's home run.
According to the Canadian Press (http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2015/10/15/jays-fan-charged-after-thrown-beer-sprays-baby.html), one fan has been arrested after throwing beer and hitting a baby. A baby! Here's the story:Toronto police say a man has been charged with mischief after a baby was hit by the spray of a thrown beer can at Wednesday's Blue Jays game.
Const. Victor Kwong says Albert Grummitt was arrested Wednesday night and has since been released. He is due in court on Nov. 24.
Police say the baby was with her mother in the front row of the Rogers Centre when the can was tossed their way.

The television broadcast showed a teary eyed woman protecting her baby in the front row, though it's unclear if they're the same people involved in the incident that led to the arrest.

I understand fans were upset over the call on the field, but good grief, don't throw stuff. It's dangerous, first and foremost. Also, it's embarrassing.
General rule of thumb: if you are considering throwing something because you're angry, don't. No good can come from it.

I don't post during the season, but I have mlb.tv and watch most of the games. Posting isn't really a good way to judge how many follow the team, especially when this is a football board, not a baseball board.
I know, that was more directed at KC_Connection's post about how there's a bunch of band wagoners in the Royals GDTs, not at Royals fans in general.

Funny…I love America…its people…what it stands for…its tv/film industry has kept me gainfully employed for the last 30 years. Heading to KC a week from now to fulfill a bucket list dream to see the Chiefs play the Steelers in Arrowhead..my wife and daughter in tow. Judging by this thread…we will keep on the down low…much like Americans have to when travelling abroad…when many sew Canadian flags on their backpacks to avoid dirty stares. I get the Jays/Royals thing (I hate anything Toronto myself)…and I know this thread is somewhat in jest…but shit can get real very quickly for no particular reason other than being born somewhere else.

I got a story to tell you about some really really dumb canucks I met in February 2002 in Vegas during the winter Olympics. I am at the 3 card poker table with these two dudes wearing Canadian hockey marty brodeur jersey's. They keep playing the anty only and not the pairs plus. while I was sitting there they got the following hands, 3 of a kind, a pair, a flush and a straight flush. these knuckleheads are going crazy and they still wouldnt put money on the pairs plus lol so I said ''can I put money on your pairs plus?'' dude looks back at me with a deer in the head light look. I just cant get the thought of these two dumbasses and the Canadian maple leaf out of my head.
