Arrieta is back to being human.

No way anyone could keep up that run he had. It was damned impressive, but if the Cardinals offense could get to him for four runs (and he was all over the place in that game) then the Mets should be able to bludgeon him.

Or hearing all offseason about how KC was the team that extended the Cubs WS drought. I am pretty sure no one outside of KC, including the media would pull for or say anything positive about the Royals if they faced the Cubs. It would make Joe Buck seem like a KC homer.

Actually, it wasn't postseason. I was thinking about that memory, and where his foul balls landed was where I was sitting in the playoff game, so it must have been a regular season game. It was absolutely a homerun, though.

Arrieta has had 2 full seasons in Chicago of less than a 1 WHIP. Fraud ace? You're an idiot. He's pretty clearly gassed. Before this season his previous innings high was 156.2. His velocity is down and his control is fading, yet he still won the wildcard with a CGSO and is 2-1 in the postseason.

Hard to believe how bad the Cubs have looked in this series-like a team that finished 20 games under .500. Arrietta really has lost his mojo as well as all the hitters.

So very likely after tonight, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best teams by record in the NL will all be gone.

Cubs aren't a complete team yet. I'm actually shocked they are even in the NLCS. They have 2 good pitchers and the rest are #4 starters at best and they are littered with rookies.

They're built very well for a five game series, but I wondered if they'd be exposed over seven. Arrieta's collapse more or less sealed this from the get go.

That's pretty much the reason why they didn't do well in the series right there. Lots of young talent that made it to the post season, after the Cards series it was like they are deer looking at headlights at night.

All the media attention in Chicago let alone the nation decended on them because they were the story. Most of the nation wants them to be the little engine that could and the youngesters just didn't handle it well.

There is something to say about having a lot of seasoned veterans on a team and more importantly been to October post season games. The Royals will tell you that they are handling the post season much better this year as opposed to last year and know what to expect.

Good news is the Cubs should only get better and hopefully be in the post season again next year.

Just for the record... the record for consecutive games with a HR is 8. Griffey, Mattingly and Dale Long of the Pirates in 1956. The list of people who've even done it 6 games in a row is very small.

Rough math here, but Murphy has homered in approximately 1.7% of his career PAs.

Assuming that he receives 4.5 PAs for every start, the odds of him homering in a single game are about 7.5%

The odds of him homering in six straight games are .075^6 which is approximately 1.68*10^-7 or 1 in 60:000 games.

So, if Daniel Murphy was as good as his career average for the next 375 years, he would do this once.

I'm considerably more afraid of losing the ALCS than I am the WS. I think we're a terrible matchup for the Mets. I had planned on steering a thread breaking down how favorable this WS would be for us. For obvious reasons, I'm holding off. Hopefully, only until Friday night.
