yeah, I was wondering how a knuckleball in a dome would work, but apparently there is enough of an ambient breeze because his 2015 home split is good.

Supposedly he's good in domes. That's been the narrative since he was acquired in 2012 anyway. As far as I can tell, though, there's no rhyme or reason behind whether his pitch is on or not. He could be great or just awful tomorrow, there's no way to know.

Chris Young has given the Jays' fits for years. I was not happy when I saw his name written in as the 4th starter. Is he fully stretched out?

Yeah, he was our #4/5 guy right up to the playoffs. If he's effective he should be able to go 5 or 6

Young has always been a curiosity to me for his ability to consistently outperform his peripherals (and for his lack of respect from MLB teams while doing that). His contact profile is very similar to Estrada really. He'll generally give up the long ball, but if there's nobody on base when it happens, it doesn't hurt too much.

6 innings and 3 runs from CY and this is a win. I'm just not sure how anyone can be super confident in RA Dickey. If it's at all close to the bullpens, the most glaring advantage on either side clearly favors KC. Just need Young to keep it close. Can't recall many games he absolutely got his ass handed to him this year. If he does what he normally does, we'll need 1 more win to get to a highly winnable WS. That's right, I fear the Jays about 1 million times more than the Mets or Cubs. Probably Mets. Trade this lineup for one guy on a garunteed to end hot streak and a bunch of maxed out young arms? Yes please. Just need 1 in Toronto. Don't want Volquez dealing with that pressure. Let's get her done, CY!

Every time he hits the ball in the air, he stares at it, like he thinks it's gonna leave the park, when it doesn't even make the warning track. Whatever power he had when he was younger is gone. He's nothing more than a slap-hitter now.

He's done that 100x this year. After the AS Break, I just started FF everytime he did that because I knew it wouldn't even get to the track. Once I did it and the ball went out dead-center (Camden Yards) and I had to stop, rewind, and just gaze slack-jawed that it actually left!

KCConnection is FAR worse. Guy has 24,000 posts here and has talked shit alongside Bricks.

Have done no such thing. I've given the Royals respect all year. What I have done is defend the Jays from trolls like you, though.

But suddenly he disappears when they get slapped at the K because he had a "birthday" - apparently it was his Sweet 16 weekend celebration.

I was out of town at a cottage with a sketchy Internet connection. And yes, my birthday was on Saturday (and I wasn't in much of a celebratory mood obviously). Did you want me to check in with you and Chiefsplanet or something just so you could give me shit? Was that the reason? LMAO

However, he did find a few spare moments last night despite (claiming) he went to the game. He's a cowardly piece of shit and he knows it. Talk smack or don't, but don't be selective.
Now you're suggesting I didn't go to the game either because I posted four hours after it was over and calling me a piece of shit? Ridiculous. If one loss hits you this hard, man, it really might be time to take a break.

I don't really get this obsession with demanding that opposing fans show up and take their beating if they lose. If the Royals lose tonight, I'm gonna want to shut off the TV and fire up netflix on the computer for a while, or do anything but think about baseball. If I write about the game with Blue Jays fans before or during the game, I don't think there's some samurai code of honor saying I must submit to ridicule afterwards if they tie the series up.

I've been touting Chris Young all year, and I'm glad he will get his shot. I'm kind of scared it's against the Jays, and away from Kaufman stadium. When Chris Young gets in trouble, he gives up the long ball. I get why they are doing it. Through 92 at bats of guys on the Jays, he's done well. I don't know if that is a big enough sample size to really make something out of it, especially when he was likely pitching to them in Oakland (big park Donaldson etc) and Seattle where he used to play.

Volquez brought up the sign stealing again in his press conference this afternoon. Says Cueto thought they were doing it last night. He also basically said talking to his friends on other teams, they worry about it there too. But he also said if they get stolen it's your fault. This is probably about to become a talking point again.

I just gotta say, it's awfully convenient when you decide to talk about baseball on Chiefs Planet.

tk13
10-20-2015, 11:36 AM
I think he kept the ball up too much but he didn't throw too many fat meatballs except for the pitch to Tulo. Early on he did a pretty good job of hitting the outside half, which has been our strategy so far... But he didn't get strike calls on any of them. If we do not get the outside strike against this team we will lose this series. But I'm not Hootie and don't feel like posting about it 14000 times. He certainly didn't pitch well but I think Ventura or Volquez would've struggled with that strike zone too. It was fair for both sides though, just gotta play the hand you're dealt.

I did wonder if they were stealing signs our last time there because they were hitting Herrera and Davis' best stuff. They both got knocked around the yard and it was almost like they knew what was coming. Even Andy McCullough alluded to it on Twitter and he's usually not the type to say things like that.

Exactly. Cueto looks like a guy who really struggles outside his comfort zone.

Last night he looked uncomfortable. I think it was even the first inning (maybe it was the second), he stopped, puttered around the mound, knocked his cleats on the cleaning thingy ... and I thought, "He doesn't look comfortable out there." And then he got lit up.

He had to deal with a small strike zone, visions of sign-stealing in his dome, Salvy was altering signs because of fears of sign-stealing, he after the game complained about the mound ... he was a mental mess. No wonder he got pounded.

I thought the Royals were stealing signs all inning off Price in the 7th in game 2. He still had good stuff, but Royals weren't taking the same bad swings they were before whenever there was a runner on 2nd. It's just part of the game, though. Yeah but the Royals have a history over the last three years of putting together innings like that. We did the same thing to Houston, on the road, in game 4.

Some of the pitches the Jays hit at home are just amazing. They're a great hitting team though, no doubt. When you're out there picking off Wade Davis like you know it's coming, it just looks strange. Even last night, your version of Chris Getz hit a bomb. They definitely mash it at home. Even the announcers mentioned the reputation the Jays had at home last night, before Cueto brought it up.

Oh, I'm well aware. I'm just telling you what I saw, though. Zobrist, Hosmer, Moustakas, and Gordon were all on second that inning and I'm absolutely certain they were signalling to the hitters what was coming. Just showed up in the kind of swings/takes they were making after struggling all game against the same stuff. More power to them, though. It's on the other team to change it up in that situation and the Jays didn't.

We had Chris Getz for a while too. He was awful.

I can't speak to whether the Jays are actually stealing signs. For all I know they could be. I hold the same attitude to that as I do whenever any team is stealing them. If you aren't going to change them up, it's on you.

Goins has some occasional mistake power (and that changeup definitely was a mistake), I believe that's 5 or 6 this year.

Salvy's glove is too high. They're stealing signs. Excuses for bad pitching. If I'm a prospective bidder on starting pitching next year, I'm more concerned about that than anything else.

Man up and get people out. If they're stealing signs, change the way you do signs.

I thought the Royals were stealing signs all inning off Price in the 7th in game 2. He still had good stuff, but Royals weren't taking the same bad swings they were before whenever there was a runner on 2nd. It's just part of the game, though. You're not going to get me bitching about it. That's on the catcher/pitcher to change it up and hide their intentions and they didn't.
Yeah, I'm sure it had nothing to do with the shadows being gone at that point.

Much credit to Cain for getting his toe down - Madden awareness rating 99

Yeah I mean what did the BJs think they saw, not to mention the idiot announcers? Toe was digging through dirt, then hit the plate, then smushed down ever more onto the plate before the tag got there.

I think the Jays were just kind of fishing knowing what a big play it was.
