As a former customer of that bank, I was told that said name came about when 5th Bank and 3rd Bank merged.

When you think about a lot of these names they are stupid as shit, another example Buffalo Bills a pluralized version of some old west showman that had nothing to do with the city and isn't represented at all in any of their branding...
