Just curious if anyone else has been and what is your routine?

So far on the house:
Caulked, painted the exterior gaps and leak parts of the house.
Unhooked hoses.
Changed furnace filter, cleaned humidifier and changed filter and switched settings.

Vehicle:
Changed oil, air filter and plugs, checked fluids.
Built my sand bag frame to keep the sand bags over the rear axels.

Still need to do:
Load sand bags in pickup.
Attach / retro fit snow plow to tractor.

I have seen a chimney fire at my house and they are scarry as hell, hence why I clean 2X.

There are certain jobs I don't trust to someone else.
That and when you hire someone else you never really know what you're letting into your house. Just ask Elizabeth Smart, the dude that kidnapped her was a day laborer her father hired to do some yard work.

I've been cutting wood quite a bit. I've got about 4 ricks stacked and split. I also had the gas company cut down a bunch of tress around a transfer station that's on our land. The cut and stacked the shit, barely had to cut any of it down to size, so I'm ahead for next year. They also gave me a whole truck load of wood chips/mulch. The blueberry bushes are happy campers.

If you could get field turf like they put on football fields it would be good. That shit is definitely nice to be on. The problem I would see is it has to have concrete under it and if you have trees it might make the cement heave. I'm definitely down for it if I can afford to get it installed.

Cleaning out my gutters tomorrow, just moved into the place recently and they haven't been cleaned out in probably 2-3 years, absolutely choked with leaves and its raining an awful lot right now.

Don't want my cellar flooding.

Changed furnace filter.

Doing a flush and fill and battery check on the pickup at some point this week.

You mean the 1 1/2 inch of snow that shuts down the greater Nashville area and all surrounding counties?

Hell take the inch out of that, 1/2 inch does the trick lol ROFL Hope nobody from the Nashville area schools is reading this forum, just our mention of Snow and Nashville will close the schools for at least 3 days.

And for those that are wondering; no Predarat is not exaggerating. Nashville schools have shut down due to the threat of snowfall, not actual snowfall totals but just the threat (30% or better) of snow.

I need to put some sandbags in the back of the pickup - I am pretty meh on 4x4, meaning I don't use it very often even when there is a lot of snow - so when I picked up this last pickup I didn't spend extra - the other vehicle has it if I absolutely had to have it but I have done RWD cars/ trucks for many many years -its not usually a problem if you know how to drive.

Why do I need to put seafoam in my pushmower?

Today's gasoline has at least 10% alcohol. If it sits too long, it plugs up jets in the carburetor or fuel injectors. Especially during winter. Below 20F
Seafoam will break that crap up and allow gas flow. Good preventative medicine.

That is why the generator I got from the farm will not start. Dad did not do any of that, and the gas has been sitting in there since before he died. Over 2 years. I have been working on getting it done but the foot in a cast put a damper on working outside.

I heard Lewdog and all the guys in AZ got together to buy a sweater and a can of soup for the long hard winter.

ROFL

But I hate soup and think it's for pussies so that's out.

I wore a sweatshirt to the gym the other morning...with shorts of course.

I open up the windows in our bedroom now from dinner until bed to cool the room off to 66 degrees for bed.

I now warm up the Mustang for 90 seconds before hitting the pavement.

I still do not need to wear a coat to work in the morning.

"Diary of a Snow Shoveler"

December 9: We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had. I shoveled snow for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again! What a perfect life.

December 12: The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment. My neighbor tells me not to worry, we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. l don't think that's possible. Bob is such a nice man - I'm glad he's our neighbor.

December 14: Snow, lovely snow! 8" last night. The temperature dropped to -20. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came back this afternoon and buried everything again. l didn't realize I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish l wouldn't huff and puff so.

December 15: 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska, after all.

December 16: Ice storm this morning. Fell on my butt on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour, which I think was very cruel.

December 17: Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. God I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.

December 20: Electricity's back on, but had another 14" of stupid snow last night. More shoveling. Took all day. That stupid snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I have to shovel or the city will have it done and bill me. I think he's lying.

December 22: Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white stuff fell today, and it's so cold it probably won't melt till August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up to go out to shovel and then I had to use the restroom. By the time I got undressed, went and dressed again. I was too tired to shovel. Tried to hire Bob who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter; but he says he's too busy. I think the jerk is lying.

December 23: Only 2" of snow today. And it warmed up to 0. The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she, nuts? Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago? She says she did, but I think she's lying.

December 24: 6" today. Snow packed so hard by snowplow, l broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the jerk who drives that snowplow, I'll drag him through the snow by his hair. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then he comes down the street at about 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I've just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents, but I was busy watching for that stupid snowplow.

December 25: Merry Christmas. 20 more inches of the !=3D@x@!x!x1 slop tonight. Snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil. God I hate the snow! Then the snowplow driver came by asking for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says I have a bad attitude. I think she's an idiot. If I have to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to kill her.

December 26: Still snowed in. Why the hell did I ever move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves.

December 27: Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes froze.

December 28: Warmed up to above -50. Still snowed in. THAT WOMAN is driving me crazy!!!!!

December 29: 10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I ever heard. How dumb does he think I am?

December 30: Roof caved in. The snow plow driver is suing me for a million dollars. The wife went home to her mother. 9" predicted.

December 31: Set fire to what's left of the house. No more shoveling.

January 8: I feel so good. I just love those little white pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed?

About three weeks ago I was at Lowes and I bought a snow shovel and two car scrapers. In line the guy behind me said "Do you know something I don't?"
I explained to him that I just moved here from California and don't have this stuff but don't want to have to go shopping for it after I need it.

What else do I need to do?
I have a guy coming to flush my sprinklers next week, a guy to service the furnace, and gonna get new tires on my X-terra this weekend.
Oh, i also got a 75" TV, arcade game and gym put in my basement. :thumb:

I took the generator from the farm 8000 watts. Dad had it hooked into the house. I am going to do the same thing when I build the new house.

The natural gas one would be ideal, but I will take this.

By the way-it is 30 today with a wind chill of 21. I may have to put on a light jacket tomorrow.

Just wait til you have to shovel your driveway only to watch the snow plow come by and rebury your vehicle in the drive. After you've shoveled it for the second time in one day the only thing you'll want to do with the gym equipt. is throw it in the back of your vehicle for extra traction.
