View Full Version : Life The age of your youngest child

Rain Man
11-23-2015, 10:49 PM
I did a study a while back where I was looking at the ages of parents of young children, and I was surprised at how many parents of pre-schoolers were 40+ years old. I'm curious if the community was a fluke or if it's common.

So...poll coming. How much older are you than your YOUNGEST child? Poll crowning soon from the poll birth canal.

Rule: Your youngest may be a natural child, stepchild, or some other child relationship.

33 years older for me, youngest is 6. My dad had his first kid when he was 40 and youngest when he was 51.

He told me when I was young that it was ok to wait to be established before having them but after he had a couple grandkids for my brothers and sisters, he told me that he was wrong and we should have them sooner so they could get to know their grandparents(I barely knew mine).

None of it affected when we actually had our kids but it did give me an interesting perspective on his views. As it was, my youngest was less than 6 months old when my dad passed. I'm glad to at least have a few pictures of them together. Only my oldest really remembers him which really bothers me quite a bit. Moral of the story, don't wait too long.

I never married his mom. I'm glad of that because I had him as much as I wanted, which was almost every weekend and most weekdays he was out of school. He'll be 17 next month. I have all of these memories of just him and me that I cherish so much.

And due to my condition and my life now I only get to see him a few weeks a year, but we communicate every day.

It's bullshit that physically we should be having kids in our 20s when mentally we'd be better off waiting till much later.

I'm 39. Have a 5.5yo and a 9mo old. We lost a second child about 2 years ago, so we didn't wait this long entirely by choice. But yeah, we waited because we enjyed being TINKs. But now at least I regret it, as my parents are in their 70s and realization finally hit that they probably won't see my kid graduate high school. And that I may not see my grandkids graduation either.

....and die alone.

Everybody dies alone anyway.

However, kids can be a mixed bag.

Some kids, like my daughter, can be an absolute joy and are the greatest thing in your life.

Some kids can be the ultimate headache that fills the remainder of your life with pain and regret.

But a lot of that has to do with proper parenting. But sometimes a person/kid is just a bad person/kid regardless of how much love and time you put into it.

I was lucky. My daughter has been as perfect of a kid as I could have ever imagined or hoped for. Thank Christ she wasn't like me.

Yeah It was a little different. My grandfather on Mom’s side was born before Cars and airplanes and lived long enough to see man land on the Moon. He was too old to get drafted for WWI. I could easily have been 20-40 years older. My Dads side wasn’t that much younger. Gives a person a little different perspective listening to stories about your Dads Grandpa having his horse stolen by Jessie James. No idea if it was true but was cool to listen too as a kid.

My age difference is 26 tears, er, years. 2 boys then the girl.

I'll say it's tough to raise kids during your 20's. While they totally kill your hopes and dreams, and walk around like drunken midgets with knives, they're also a point of inspiration.

The first priority is always the kids, the second is making yourself better for the sake of the kids.

I wonder if things would've been different if we had kids in our 30's, but that devil woman couldn't keep her hands off of me. I can't blame her though. I was pretty hot.
