View Full Version : Life Second-Tier Thankfulness on Thanksgiving.

We all know the big things to be grateful for, and they always get all the airplay. Health, family, nudity, barbecue, we get it. Everyone likes those things.

The accompanying poll will ask about thankfulness for the next tier down. Or maybe a couple of tiers down, I'm not sure. But it's something for you to ponder as you sit down on Thanksgiving and come up with ideas for your post-dinner speech.

May my small hometown liquor store have some decent IPAs, and my travel tube of toothpaste be free of air pockets.

I'm thankful to be living in a time and place where life is easier and more comfortable than it has ever been. I know there is a lot of shit going on, both at home and abroad, but this is a great time to be alive!

Enjoy your family, friends, life and live every day like it's your last. Happy Thanksgiving everyone

I'm thankful for good beer and Tamba Hali.

I went with:

hair - it's attractive and helps me recognize people

window glass - it would be a small and dark world without it

rocks the right size and shape for throwing - they're fun now and may have saved humanity a million years ago

shorts - obvious reasons

inexpensive ballpoint pens - I don't know where I'd be without them. I can't stand using pencils

Oh. Does your family bring in a keynote speaker?

We got Trump coming this year.

Seriously though, doesn't everyone do the thankful speech before dinner, not after?

What if the speech goes on for several hours like a Fidel Castro broadcast?

We don't give speeches since there's just two people in my family, but maybe a short speech before dessert would be the best time. Put a five-minute time limit on it.

Then you just start eating anyways. Not right for the gravy to get cold.

Neither do we, but we do say a short prayer before.

Meh. I can take it or leave it.

window glass - it would be a small and dark world without it

I voted for this.

rocks the right size and shape for throwing - they're fun now and may have saved humanity a million years ago

I voted for this.

shorts - obvious reasons

I would just modify existing clothing

inexpensive ballpoint pens - I don't know where I'd be without them. I can't stand using pencils

I like inkwells and calligraphy.

I don't know how anyone could not vote for gates in fences. You know how fucking hard fences are to climb when you get old?

I mean, not voting for gates in fences is like not voting for doors in houses.

This is a very good point, but on the other hand I rarely cross fences, gate or not. Now, window glass? I use it almost constantly.

Cant do without shorts.

How would we move without boxes?

How shitty would a house be without windows?

Gotta love that ozone smell after a rain.

Dimmer switches are great for setting a mood.

I have come to view dimmer switches as an evil rather than a good.

When there is simply on or off, life is simple. If you are in the room, the lights are on. If you are in the room and the lights are off you are either asleep or disturbing.

With a dimmer switch, there is a spectrum of lighting levels for you and your spouse to disagree about. Setting the mood, you say? Sure, you -feeling amorous - dim the lights and recline on the sofa and work on bringing a smokiness to your eyes. She walks in 10 minutes later and say's "Why is it so dark in here?" and switches the lights all the way up. That really sets the mood.
