The Kardashian's, for better or for worse, have a TV contract larger than the Royals. The Kardashian's signed for 4 years, $100 million or $25 million year while the Royals are signed for $20 million per year.

I saw her at a Vegas club one time. She came in for 30 minutes and left. Pretty sure her it was just to get an appearance fee, she had to be there a half hour. I was not able to get my night vision camera out and smack her across the head with my dong. If she was there another hour I would have closed the deal with my house rum and cokes in hand and shirt I bought from Target. She would have been impressed.

Well, it's not quite like that but it's becoming more and more that way.

When I started out, it was just "Hey, I'm going to write as many 1:30-2:00 tracks in whatever genre I feel like", which turned out to be about 120 the first year, with music from Modern, Classic and Retro rock to Action-Adventure Orchestral to horror and so on.

It was super fun and super cool and I now have music on more than 400 different shows. I've had more than 6,000 placements in the last 18 months, which is just insane and really cool.

But now, I'm co-writing with a 3 time Emmy winner, I'm doing "Albums" for big time music library houses, I have a lawyer that negotiates my deals (at $450 an hour!) and I'm writing for "specific" genres and needs. It's not to say that it's "bad" per se, but it's definitely different than how it started out.

But, I guess you could say that about any career, right? Very few people, outside of doctors and dentists, have a straight-line trajectory.

I didn't decline, but I told her what I'm doing now and she responded "I've always admired your work ethic so if you ever want a job of any kind, the door's open". It meant a lot to me, actually, and while I hope that it never, ever comes to that, I'm glad that option is still there.

The problem is that all of my new music is "Exclusive", meaning I no longer own the publishing or copyright in exchange for a Creative Fee or Sync License fees, so I can't legally share it with anyone.

Plus, it wouldn't be prudent for me to share any of the music in which I do own the publishing and copyrights that don't include the metadata and copyright info. I'd advise the same for you as well.

You don't want your music to end up in someone's wedding video, royalty-free.

I haven't run into Paris for a few years but when I did, she was always cool. She's been super cool to my wife, too.

And normally, I have zero attraction to blondes (I'm a Mediterranean/Latina/Asian guy - dark hair, dark skin) but I have to say, she's hot AF.

I met her once late on a Saturday night at Laurel and Sunset. She pulled into the gas station behind me and asked me if I would pump the gas for her. I figured it would make a great post on CP one day so I went ahead and did it.

So you work at a gas station, or she asked you anyway? That is worse than Scottie Pippen asking the table next store to cut his steak for him for a fee.

You don't want your music to end up in someone's wedding video, royalty-free.

it would strictly be for personal usage and deleted but completely understandable due to the profession.. one day lol.

Ahhh, yes - a traditional name would have been appropriate as well.

Shart Kardashian would've been good.

Sounds like fun. I literally have thousands of snippets of riffs, progressions and half-finished songs. I always looked at 'em as a means to an end, you know, to get to the 'final drafts', but I really have fun just writing and recording, and I have a bunch of stuff that I wrote that isn't going to progress beyond anything other than a bunch of demos, but I love it just the same.

What's your process like, usually?? What do you record into?? I assume you use a piano to write?? Been really getting into the craft of songwriting lately, and I'm trying to get as many different perspectives on that subject. My interest is peaked.

That is strange, their first kid was constant news of pictures of her. This one? I do not remember any. She must of had a surrogate like Beyonce this time around.

That said does it make you want to punch a kitten when you see a commercial or trailer use 10 year old grage band tracks?

Hell, there's a commercial for a local business here that uses the old theme music from one of the Tecmo Super Bowl games in radio adds...

Nah. Advertisers use cheap tracks because they don't have a budget or they don't feel the music is important.

But that said, my ears perk up when I hear a great track. That's really cool. But the stuff that's just "meh" doesn't even get my attention.

My process? To be honest, I don't have a process, at least that I'm aware of. :D

If I'm asked to write modern rock, I pull out the Les Paul that's tuned to C# sharp and plug into the Rectifier, Atomica, Splawn or Engl, then start playing. It usually takes about 2 minutes to write a riff, which I thrown down in Cubase 8 Pro immediately, so I don't forget it, then go back, find the tempo and re-record it to a click. Then, I either spent an hour or so writing the basic drums or it goes into my unfinished folder for later. Often times, I come up with tracks and riffs while I'm in the middle of tracking something (and always with a deadline), so it goes into the Unfinished folder and I come back to it later. I probably have a 100 tracks in there as of today.

If it's an orchestral piece, I start on piano and once I have the main melody, I play into Cubase, then go back and start orchestrating the Double Bass, Cellos, Violas, Strings, Brass, etc. Percussion is usually last, unless it's a Percussion based track.

I have different templates depending on the genre, so I can quickly get ideas into the DAW. I have every library and every software program on the market, so I choose the template that best suits what I'm working on.

I can generally crank out a track a day but sometimes more. I did a national commercial recently in 90 minutes and did a Microsoft commercial on commission (which I didn't get) in less than an hour (Lots of Kontakt pianos, Rev by Output, etc.).

But the biggest headache of all, the production, is done beforehand. I have every Toontrack, Addictive Drums and Slate Platinum kit, so I have templates dialed in for each vendor, so I can audition up to 30 kits for each track, if necessary. My Orchestral template has like 60 Orchestral instruments loaded and ready to go, so all I need to do is assign the correct notes to the correct instruments after the piece has been composed.

Quick turnarounds are absolutely essential to my work, as are knowing where to provide edits. A 60 second spot has to end at 59 seconds, a 30 second spot at 29 seconds and so on down to 5 seconds. Writing with that in mind makes it much easier to create and hit your mark. It's like second nature.
