The Chiefs defense led the way in a sixth straight win Sunday, and the man who sealed the deal is being recognized for his efforts.

Kansas City safety Tyvon Branch was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career after recording four tackles and an interception in the 34-20 win over the Raiders. Branch's interception came late in the fourth quarter, and he returned it 38 yards for a touchdown.

Deserving honor.

That was one of the best plays we've had a defender make all season. The degree of difficulty on tracking the deflecting and getting down to catch it plus the presence of mind to get back up and jet downfield for the TD was pretty amazing.

If Berry had made that play we'd be sizing him up for his HoF jacket but as Branch hasn't really made himself a fan favorite, I think we gave him short shrift on just how outstanding that play was. Not a lot of DB's secure that interception (a deflected pass generally isn't tough, but a deflection with that kind of heat on it still is difficult as hell), let alone house it.

He's been a really good player here, in my opinion. I think k they need to try and keep him and abdullah next year, they're a big part of our ability to defend the te

I'm very happy for Tyvon Branch but this is a bit of an overreach. Derrick Johnson played a MUCH better game for our defense than Tyvon.

He took a shit angle on Murray's 35 yarder but his INT TD more than made up for that.

He's been pretty good, which is great because Kurt Coleman is also tearing shit up. Had Branch been a bust we'd be looking pretty dumb to have let Coleman go.

It seems all of our safeties are placed in great positions to succeed. Either that or we're exceedingly lucky. Shit, even Sorenson can come in in spot duty and not look entirely horrible. Props to Sutton for that.

Both UFAs... Branch headed for 29 years of age.. Abdullah for 31. Hmmmm....

He looked faster than I've ever seen/thought on that play.

Weird I thought Branch had been having a fairly terrible season and game until that INT.

His run support has been poor and though not his fault he has been asked to cover the slot a lot earlier in the season and was just terrible.

I read an article talking about his interception. Evidentially, Peters was yelling at him to stay down, and he said he thought something along the lines of "Naw, I've got to live out my dreams."

That had me cracking up. Very strange thing to think LMAO

If Cock Asswieler can get an award for his shitty play, then so can Tyvon Branch.
