It's a pretty good bet that the Kansas City Chiefs will have Justin Houston in the NFL playoffs this weekend against the Houston Texans. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said on the Chiefs Kingdom show on 810 WHB on Monday night that Houston will be playing when the Chiefs visit ... um, Houston.

Here's the exchange between Mitch Holthus and Andy Reid on the radio show:

Holthus: You had Tamba Hali back yesterday. What about his availability for the Texans and then I have to bring up Justin Houston. How much of a chance is there J-Hou will play in Houston?

Reid: We're going to Houston and we're taking Houston with us. We gotta play him, don't we? He's gotta go and do his thing. Right?

Holthus: Absolutely. Best news we've heard all night.

Anybody else cross their fingers as they clicked this link?

I think we all kind of knew they were gearing up for this game, but it's good to get a bit of confirmation on what we had hoped.

I heard it as well and was optimistic. The one thing that drives me crazy on that show is little chants like " bring the hammer down" etc over and over, doesn't there come a point after one or two shows that someone tells him that this is the most childish, embarrassing, idiotic thing that you can do? Its like he is talking to 5 year olds or something.

Anyway beyond the mindless chants that make no sense, it was positive.

gotta give Dorsey/Reid credit

They sat Houston and still found a way to win.

Exactly! Hopefully the defense will be dominating like they have the last 10 wins.

I have my reservations about him making an impact just back from injury.

I hope I am wrong.

He's at full strength according to Teicher.

Duane Brown is out.

If Ford is a go, Houston might have a big problem.

I don't expect Ford to be in much if both Houston & Hali are game ready.

They played it perfectly. Gave him all the rest and rehab he needed without exposing him on the field.

If we were in a situation where we had to win Sunday to make it into the playoffs, Houston likely would have played.

How about about all 3 at the same time? It's the playoffs man!

I still dream of an alignment where he motions over from the 9 technique all the way to right behind Poe right before the snap and he rushes the A-gap. I feel like with his burst and speed that's where he would be most dangerous.

Quickest travel between two points is a straight line right? Let the man blow past the center right into the QB's lap.

C'mon Bob!!

Sutton better have some tricks up his sleeves for the playoffs.

Reid and Sutton need to step up their playcalling

I still don't know why Sutton isn't using the Double A-Gap blitz.

we have lots of quality blitzers and he rarely uses any of them.

Branch looked like a DE coming around the corner against the faiders. Bull rush, pull/shed.

we should do that 2/3 times a game.

Completely agree. DJ has a play or two a game where he completely wrecks the RB in the backfield right when they get ball. Not sure why they dont let him do that on pass plays.

sutton does blitz when he needs to. There is no reason to blitz if you can get goodpressure with 4, which they have been doing all year when Houston & Hali have been healthy.

I disagree completely.

Blitzing when you don't have to is the best time to blitz. That's when you get the big sack and turnovers. Only blitzing when you 'have to' is less effective.

Sutton is very Conservative and basic, probably why Reid wanted him. Reid is very conservative too.

Sutton plays alot of press man with a single high safety. That's not really conservative

maybe predictable is a better word for it :hmmm:

same scheme
same blitzes
don't change anything unless you absolutely have to
He doesn't adjust during a game, his adjustments happen over days, if not weeks

I don't know...

Sutton calls some amazing blitzes when he has to have a play. Really good shit in actuality. And it's completely situational during games. He's been blitzing the shit out of guys of late.

I expect that to continue against Hoyer, who struggled with that in the first match up.

Why blitz thoigh, when you can get there with 4? Pressure is pressure.

usually blitz pressure comes much faster than front 4 pressure

front 4 pressure also need good coverage, blitz can be almost instant

Blitzes also tend to freak QBs out

It also leaves you more vulnerable at the back end if that blitz doesn't get there. It's a calculated risk and i think Sutton has done a good job of balancing that risk.

If youre blitzing and your blitzer is going to get there as fast as front four pressure, he's going to have to rush from near the LOS, which against good QB's, it's gonna get eaten up. If you don't have good coverage, blitzing isn't going to get there any more than your front four.

Blitzing is more about the timing of it, than quantity. In today's NFL where physicality in the secondary is a little tougher, I think it's more advantageous to have more guys in the secondary and get pressure with fewer guys.

With tamba and Houston healthy, along with our DL, we can do that.
