The honors just keep rolling in for the Marcus Peters.

On Thursday, the NFL named the Chiefs’ Pro Bowl rookie cornerback its defensive rookie of the month for December.

Peters, who the Chiefs selected with the 18th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, recorded 15 tackles, four interceptions (one for a touchdown), nine passes defensed and a forced fumble in the month.

On the season, Peters — who is the Chiefs’ first rookie to make the Pro Bowl since Eric Berry in 2010 — has recorded 60 tackles, is tied for the league lead in interceptions (eight) and leads the league in passes defensed (34).

Look how he signed...

 He had a huge impact on this team. The kid made some mistakes, but what do you expect from a rookie CB. He will only get better with in the years to come.

I think the best thing that has happened to Peters this year is by far Sean Smith

I really, really hope Dorsey finds a way to re-sign Sean Smith. Smith and Peters are a fantastic corner duo, and if Phillip Gaines can rebound 100%, we would have a dangerous top three corner set.

The problem is that there likely isn't enough to go to Smith after we re-sign Berry (there is just no way they don't sign him to a lucrative contract. If he left, the fans would flat revolt, and it would reflect very poorly on Dorsey to other free agents down the road).

Peters has been the best first round pick by the Chiefs in a long, long time. He's done a great job and I like his intensity.

Hopefully they can repeat that this year.

Peters was also named AP All Pro second team (http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/article-2/LB-Derrick-Johnson-and-CB-Marcus-Peters-Named-to-2015-AP-All-Pro-Second-Team/a59d524e-5a01-41b0-984b-9403bb43ea23)

Second team?

Peters finished the season tied with Cincinnati Bengals safety Reggie Nelson for the league lead in interceptions with 8 and led the league in interception return yards (280) and passes defensed (26).

Peters also had 60 tackles (53 solo), 1 force fumble and 2 interception return touchdowns.

Pretty good stat line for second team. Must be a "rookie" thing.

THIS is how impressive the kid has been.... (https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/12/28/pro-marcus-peters-has-been-a-star-in-the-second-half-of-the-season/)

Over the second half of the season, Peters has been playing like one of the best corners in the entire NFL.

It is clear that Peters’ season enjoyed a watershed at the bye week, which came for Kansas City this year after Week 8. And opponents at this point in the season seem to be working from old information. Peters is still being targeted as often as ever, but his numbers have been better in every other category. Before the bye week, Peters averaged 5.4 receptions allowed from almost nine targets per game, for an average of 72.1 yards. After the bye, he is averaging just 3.6 receptions for 49.4 yards on the same nearly nine targets per game.

Before the bye Peters was allowing 60.7 percent of passes thrown into his coverage to be completed, for a passer rating of 101.7, but since the bye he is allowing just 41.4 percent for a passer rating of 25.7.

All seven touchdowns that he has allowed this season came before the bye week, meaning that he hasn’t surrendered a score over the second half of the season, and yet over that same span he has five of his eight interceptions.

Since that bye Peters has the second-lowest completion percentage into his coverage in the NFL, and the second-lowest passer rating allowed among corners, and when all of his coverage numbers are put together might have been statistically the league’s most impressive cover corner over that time, not just the best rookie.

Defensive rookie of the year or otherwise, Peters looks to be firmly on the right track, and on the way to something impressive for a Chiefs team that will be playing in the postseason this year.
