View Full Version : Football If the Bengals lose tomorrow - fired?

Lewis has had a bad run in the playoffs whenever he's had the chance of making it. Here's the twist, he has a young inexperienced QB starting against a vet staff and players today... does he get excused for yet ANOTHER lost in the first round due to the QB? Or is this it for him.

He's the modern Marty Schottenhiemer, so maybe?

If he told the team the game was tomorrow and they are no shows yes I'd guess he gets fired.

Tomorrow, tonight, either way. I don't think they fire him. That usually doesn't work out too well when a coach gets fired after a playoff loss. Look at San Diego
Fired Schottenheimer after a 14-2 season due to a playoff loss. They have sucked ever since. The Bengals were trash before Lewis and he has them in the playoffs regularly. No way they fire him this year.

Getting fired for losing in the playoffs with a backup QB? Not likely.

I think he's a mediocre head coach but this isn't the season he loses his job.

Marvin will be safe as they can use McCarron starting as the scapegoat....

From what I remember hearing several years back that they were about to give Mr. Lewis the Axe but he marched into city office and demanded a list of things to improve the program so he could turn it around and that's pretty much what he done except winning in the playoffs. He demanded new practice facility and weight room and equipment. He had balls to do that.

They will probably lose. Macaron is not hungry enough and already has a crazy hot ass wife. What is he playing for? To win I guess but how bad does he want it?

They sucked? They won the division every year up until 2010 after his firing.

If you had any idea how the Bengals ran, you wouldn't be asking this.

Marvin Lewis isn't getting fired. He's responsible for making the Bengals a functional franchise and will get a job as a FO executive before getting fired.

You can't make the playoffs this regularly and be mediocre. I don't know what happens in the playoffs, but I still wouldn't call him a mediocre coach. Just a coach with the most awful luck at the worst times it seems like.

This is Lewis' 13th year in Cincinnati and he's already 0-6 in the playoffs. If Lewis loses tonight and pushes that record to 0-7, I'd fire him. That team has way too much talent to continually be one and done, especially 5 years in a row.

AJ McCarron.

Nowhere near a feasible excuse when McCarron is playing so well.

Hot wife syndrome? Definitely one of the weirder pregame analyses I've run across.

If he does get fired he won't be unemployed very long. Plenty of vacancies in a ho-hum market.

After that debacle, yes, Lewis should be shown to the door.

Can't even control your own football team.

Meltdown of the Bengals increases the Chiefs odds of signing either Marvin Jones or Sanu in the offseason

BryanBusby

I don't think people really understand that.

1. Winning a playoff game with a backup QB is really hard.
2. Being a playoff team in a tough division for 5 years in a row is insanely hard. It's not really Marvin Lewis fault the NGL keeps scheduling a PIT/CIN game late in the year and the Steelers love to kill essential players. Every time.

He might get "fired" but I'd say he has a 50 chance of coming back another year with a stiff ultimatum.

Canning Marvin now would be similar to SD firing Marty after 14-2. Sure you made a move, but you're not upgrading.

The coaching pool isn't great this year and they would be getting a late start in it. That's how you get a Norv.

This is exactly who I was thinking.

Blame for that meltdown has to go to the head coach. You can't have that kind of lack of discipline and expect any loyalty, fire, or execution. I would be very surprised if Lewis, Burfict, or Jones made it to next month, much less next season.

Yea, it can happen. Especially with the way it ended.

That's a great point conceptually. If you're a committed and focused player on the Bengals, this stuff makes you more likely to walk away as a free agent The Bengals aren't losing due to a lack of talent. They're losing because they aren't focused and committed to winning, and that will eventually cost them the exact players they need the most.

Yeah... Coughlin isn't going to coach for Mike Brown. Marvin Lewis is one of the better coaches that disaster of an owner is going to get.

Yes, you fire someone for being 0-7 in the playoffs.

The Bengals won't, because Mike Brown is what people on CP say Clark Hunt is.

One way to look at it is if the playoffs are a season unto themselves would you keep a coach who has 7 losing seasons in a row?

According to the NFL network, Hue Jackson might be the head coach of the 49ers today.
