St. Louis and Oakland aren't exactly big threats to hold over a cities head to get a new stadium deal. Wonder if we will start hearing about the potential of a team in San Antonio.

Raiders want to go to San Antonio there suppose to get a portion of the relocation fee.

I'm sure Jerry will fight them tooth and nail on keeping them out of Texas

Yeah, it's a crazy good time to purchase down there. I had a friend that recently purchased a place near Adams and Jeffersson it's gone up $100k in the last year.

With the 5 million square foot of office space going up in Hollywood, along with seven new hotels, the crazy ass condos on Sunset Plaza along with this new stadium, not to mention the billions being poured into downtown, Los Angeles is experiencing a renaissance.

They're leaving the site of a team that won't exist, as we know them, anymore? Why is that bad? What am I missing? Most people have a geographical tie to teams, I'd imagine. Why would they be loyal to the name alone?

Sweet, a Target and a Home Depot close by so you can stop and pick up some socks and sheet metal screws on your way to the game.

You have the 405 to the west, the 105 to the south, and the 110 to the east. Throw in the LAX airport traffic and it will be beyond a total nightmare to get to the stadium on game day.

I can sort of understand this attitude if you grew up in North Dakota and decide you are a big Rams fan. What does it matter what city they are in? But if you grow up in a city and the hometown team leaves it would be a dagger to the heart. That's full-on knockdown, drag-out divorce time. They disrespected your hometown. Team relocation is terrible. We tend to forget that they're businesses because they brand themselves as a community figure. Then when a better deal comes along, they leave and do the same thing in the next city.

The whole phenomenon is weird. We're so loyal to sports teams and we pretend that it's something different than walking around in a Microsoft logo or a Wells Fargo Bank logo and rooting for their next earnings report. But it's no different.

We can't assume that St. Louis people will become Chiefs fans. The distance to KC and Indianapolis are almost exactly the same, and both Chicago and Nashville are less than an hour farther. St. Louis could completely spin out of our orbit toward another franchise, or they could fall into a huge internal civil war.

During the Rams' stay in the Buckeye State, the team was sold to grocery store magnate Dan Reeves, and on Jan. 12, 1946, 70 years ago Tuesday, Reeves finally got permission from the league to move the franchise to Los Angeles, some 2,000 miles from the nearest NFL team at the time.

Maybe, I'm a bit younger than you so don't really remember the Rams golden years or anything. Jerome Bettis might've been the main guy when I was watching. Anyways other than a few old die hards most people in L.A. have a team they already root for which I don't think is going to change. It'll be interesting to see the younger generation of fans who don't have a loyalty yet and have them actually grow up with a NFL team. Honestly, I think the St. Louis area hatred for the Chicago Cubs may be a factor in former Rams fans not becoming Bears fans. That's what happened with me when I became a Chiefs fan at age 7or 8. My dad is a die-hard Cardinals fan and a moderate Bears fan. My first toy as a baby was a Fredbird doll. He taught me to hate the Cubs...passionately hate the Cubs...and to this day, I do.... He also tried raising me to be a Bears fan and I couldn't do it...once I began noticing that the Bears fans at school were the same ass-hat Cub fans that I argued with every day, I knew that I needed to find a different team. I had a difficult time rooting for the Bears anyways. I refuse to root for anything Chicago...because Cubs.

By a vote of 30-2, NFL teams approved the long-anticipated move of the St. Louis Rams franchise to Los Angeles, a city that has been vacant by the league for more than 20 years, for the 2016 season.

The franchise and league confirmed the move Tuesday night.

Team owners met in Houston on Tuesday and approved Stan Kroenke's plan to move the Rams franchise to Inglewood, Calif., into a proposed $1.9 billion stadium. The Rams moved from Los Angeles following the 1994 season but now are moving back.

The San Diego Chargers soon could eventually join them. They have one year to negotiate a deal to move into a shared stadium. If the Chargers passed on the chance, the Oakland Raiders would have the next crack to share the stadium with the Rams.

The Rams — and the Chargers, if they come to a deal — will pay a relocation fee of a whopping $550 million.

The cash-poor (by NFL standards) Raiders are on the outside looking in for now, which is not surprising. But they won't be left empty-handed, and neither will the Chargers if they stay put.

#Dolphins Stephen Ross also says #Chargers and Raiders each would receive $100 mil in stadium funding if they build in their current cities.

— Charles Robinson (@CharlesRobinson) January 13, 2016

The meetings featured a day's worth of presentations and negotiations, but ultimately the tandem of the Chargers and Raiders were denied their bid to enter into a shared stadium in Carson, Calif. Chargers owner Dean Spanos, after it became clear he didn't have the support in his team's co-bid, started to negotiate a deal with Kroenke. Spanos said at a news conference after the vote that he will take "some time" to look at his options.

The Rams and any other team that joins them will play temporarily at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum while the new stadium is built. It's unclear if the old stadium, built in 1921, is capable of holding two NFL teams for multiple seasons, and the league has looked into alternate temporary homes.

The Inglewood site will be built on the grounds of the the old Hollywood Park racetrack, and based on the proposed specs will be the biggest in the NFL — bigger than even AT&T Stadium, Jerry Jones' monstrous field in Dallas — at nearly a 300-acre complex. The Inglewood stadium is shovel-ready reportedly and is projected to open for the 2019 season. Its eventual cost could creep toward $3 billion.

St. Louis now has no NFL team for the first time in two decades, and San Diego might not be far behind. The Chargers have been in San Diego since 1961, moving from Los Angeles a year after the franchise’s founding. The Raiders have pinged back and forth from L.A. but have been in the Bay Area since 1994.

This outcome was so predictable. Just as I thought, the Chargers and Raiders each get $100 million to subsidize a new stadium.

I can see the Chargers sharing the stadium, it should work well. Not good for the Raiders in any way.

They should just build a new stadium in Oakland, they fill the damn thing so why not.

The Redskins are in the process of locating a new stadium as well and could be back in Maryland, DC, or in Virginia. Their stadium was one of the worst built POS I've ever seen and fell apart quickly. It's all rusty everywhere.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher, the man Kroenke hired in 2012, was asked multiple questions about his experience overseeing the Houston Oilers transition into the Tennessee Titans during his job interview. He must have nailed the answers, because Fisher, who is 27-36-1 with the Rams, is about to become the third coach since the AFL-NFL merger to receive a fifth season after a sub-.500 record in each of his first four.

LMAO I guess we know why Fisher is bulletproof despite long-term failure

Well, in El Nino years, it rains quite a bit. We're expected to have 14 inches of rain in February when generally, we get a little more than 14 inches a year.

Also, the dome means that regardless of the weather, Los Angeles will be able to host a Final Four, the NFL Draft, World Cup Soccer, Tennis Championships, the Super Bowl and the Olympics.

He hasn't coached a team to a winning record since 2008. He has had 6 winning seasons out of 21 as a head coach. And yet people think he's great because he lost a super bowl 15 years ago.

The only thing he seems to be good at is (usually) avoiding those double digit loss seasons that get coaches fired.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the Coliseum is undergoing a $300 million dollar makeover, in which a new press box and suites will be added, along with a new scoreboard.

Every existing seat will be removed and the capacity will be reduced from almost 100,000 to 77,000, which will allow for wider aisles and chairs along with seats much closer to the field, as the track will be removed.

It won't be anywhere near as nice as Kroenke's new stadium but it won't be a dump like it was in the 80's and 90's, either.

The football season is so short, though. At most you're in your 'home city' for 5 months of the year.

Play wherever you want - live wherever you want.

I understand baseball players that play every day and can't really travel in-season wanting to live where they work. I've never understood that in football. Kroenke was smart with the stadium capacity, which is 72,000. The stadium will also be the home to NFL.com and the NFL Network and as such, I think the stadium will always sell out, especially with all of the corporations based in Los Angeles, along with all of the new corporations moving into Hollywood and DTLA the next five years.

Also, keep in mind that the Los Angeles Rams were extremely successful when they played in Los Angeles. From 1950 to 1989, they had 11 Division championships, one NFL Championship, 21 playoff appearances and won Super Bowl appearance. From 1950 to 1989, they only had 11 losing seasons, most of which occurred in the early 60's.

Kroenke will be motivated to put an excellent team on the field, as well as having a top notch front office and coaching staff because otherwise, he'll look like a fool for building a $2.6 billion dollar stadium that houses a losing team in an empty stadium.

If they expanded to 36 teams, I wonder how the conferences would fall out. That's a tough one. A playoff system with three conferences of 12 teams would require a major shuffle of the playoff structure, though it could be interesting.

2 conferences.

3 6-team divisions in each conference; you play 10 games against your in-division foes and play every other conference on a rotating basis.

Does stl get some of that money for leaving? With most of the stadiums being state and locally funded to be built and nfl teams almost worth billions i am shocked they are not sued when jumping cities.

Maybe someday someone challenges them.

Looks like we'll be joining them next season. Multiple reports saying a deal is imminent.

Sad week for football.

Seriously? I thought they were intent on waiting another year.

I love the pic showing the glass paneled roof. It will give a great view of the smogged out gray sky. Or will they just paint on blue sky?

Why do I get the feeling that Kroenke is basically Rachel Phelps from Major League?

I think he wanted to run the team into the ground.

Would explain keeping Jeff Fisher for so long.

Reduce supply by almost 25% to increase demand and cost. Smart.

Fisher does 'just enough' to keep from losing his job...

Probably why he always 'plays up' to the Seahawks.

I think it's cool. I don't understand men in their 40s and 50s crying crying about it?
I bet in a few years expansion happens in St Louis
.....oor the Jaguars move there

And rename them by their proper name. Cougars or mountain lions.
