He wasn't an obscure supporting actor from an 80's sitcom.

Yeah, I'm sure he did. Even wearing a helmet, those guys put their heads/bodies through hell.

This was my first thought, followed closely by, "why on Earth would he do that?!? I bet he can get all kinds of pussy!!!"

People who ride tiny bicycles over mounds of dirt have groupies?

I'm starting to wonder if everyone in the world has groupies other than market researchers. Do machinists have groupies? Postal delivery people? Little league umpires?

I have a Bell bike helmet that I use religiously when biking but I can't imagine that it makes much of a difference if you've crash a thousand times while wearing one.

I think this dude was probably able to bump uglies with the same types of chicks who like the Jackass type guys.... Hell, Avril Lavigne had that enormous hit, "Skater Boy." I think a lot of teen/early twenties girls were able to relate...

As corny as I think Brad Paisley is, I think there is a lot of truth to his lyrics in the song, "Celebrity." He's all like, "when yurr a celebrityyyyyy, it's adios reaaaaaalityyy. No matter whatcha dew, people think yurr kewl, just cus' yurr on TV...when yurr a celebrity."

Yeah, I'm positive this dude was able to reel in all sorts of skater-boy loving strange.

You insensitive bastards. A man is dead. Dead.

And it's not like he was rich and famous. Barely 1/8 of you pricks (myself included) know who he is.

Yet you jab at his memory?

For shame.

It wasn't suicide after all. It was Courtney Love.

thx...

I never met the guy but I have friends that were close to him, friends who would have answered Dave's phone call(if he'd have made one), friends that are kicking themselves that they didn't make a call...

Dave was a pioneer and is a legend in the sport of BMX, there are many that know him and look up to him..

CTE is definitely a probable cause of the depression, but IMHO as with football players it is just one of many factors. The loss fame coupled with the loss of talent through theft from time, that is a tough thing for someone who burns through their 'prime' at a very young age.

A fraternity brother of mine at Emporia State signed Dave to his first contract with Haro and later helped Dave Found his company, Mirraco Bikes had this to say:
Having talked with Dave over the years, I know he has struggled with finding his place in the world after fame. This is the saddest part. We take young, talented athletes, ask them to risk their life, usually pay them little money, and then dispose of them once they are done. This discussion needs to happen, but not at this time.
This has been a tough week in the 'extreme' biking world, first Kelly McGarry dies of congenital heart failure while out on a ride, and now Dave Mirra's suicide...
