The Players Association believes that the rectification of the, ahem, technical accounting issue, will increase the salary cap in 2016 by a further $1.5 million per team.

The owners all got over 200 million each in profit sharing this year.

That's is just what was shared.

Owners know their golden goose is almost fully cooked and it's time to bank whatever extra money they can get without the players knowing.

I bet they only act that way toward the players. There's no way they would do anything unethical towards the fans. They care about the fans too much.

Yeah, you're not kidding, I'm thinking this is just a gambit by the players to increase the salary cap.

It wasn't hidden. The NFLPA auditors missed it for several years as well. It was just incorrectly categorized. But that doesn't make for a clickbait headline.
