Broncos' Shane Ray got a tattoo of Kansas City Chiefs' logo

(See pic below or at https://www.instagram.com/p/BC8jsX4Dspb/?taken-by=stingray56])

Shane Ray's one-year anniversary with the Denver Broncos is less than two months away. So, he marked the occasion by getting a tattoo of the Kansas City Chiefs -- as if this offseason wasn't difficult enough for Broncos fans.

OK, so that probably isn't why Ray decided to cover his entire back in a tattoo of Kansas City. But that's the only part I lied about.

Shane Ray, a player the Broncos drafted in the first round last year, actually did get a full-back tattoo of Kansas City -- and that includes the Chiefs' logo.

As the photo caption explained, Ray got the tattoo as a way to pay tribute to his hometown. He wasn't declaring his allegiance to the Chiefs. And he wasn't hinting that he'll sign with the team when his rookie contract expires.

But all of that became irrelevant the second many Broncos fans were given a glimpse of his new artwork. Let's take a peek at some of the comments from Mile High Report, the Broncos' SB Nation site.

"You can be polroud of where you came from...Without getting the tattoo of a rival in your back. The tattoo overall is badass, but it could be without that disgusting arrow head." -- LH_Almeida

"question, whats it going to be like when your in the lockerroom with your Bronco teamates...
and your teamates see a rival symbol on your back… id piss me off"-- LoneDuck13

"seriously I love the artwork of a city but I think it's bull---- he put his division rival Arrowhead in there It's actually sickening

Wonder what Elway thinks of that lol" -- tjg342011

OK, so that's not to say there weren't any Broncos fans who defended Ray's decision -- many did -- but there was enough hate on the Internet that Ray ultimately decided to issue a defense of his tattoo.

Shout out to @kattatgirl for killing my back piece. She took the idea I had for my city and finessed lol Everyone knows how I feel about being from Kansas City Mo and that's real pride. As always I represent "The Town" for everyone that is salty because I take pride in the city that made me who I am today, you weren't with me then and I won't bother me if your not there now

Isn't Ray up for a 4-game suspension already?

This is gonna make him a lot harder to hate. Might have been wise to just leave some space for the Arrowhead to be added later. These guys don't think like that though. Fans will freak, his teammates probably won't care one bit.

He was busted for possession, not use. So he's in Phase One and is subject to random piss tests. I don't know when Phase One ends but he has been in it since the last draft or so.

Teammates won't care.

Nobody should care. NFL players have a lot of rules that they have to follow. Getting a tattoo that they want should not be on the bottom of the list, it shouldn't even be on the list. I can see how it would be kind of cool to find out that an NFL player is a fan of your team. It's cool, but it's not something to get all twisted about if you're not a a fan of the same team that he is.

I recall reading that Peters has a Raider tatoo. I personally don't care as long as he keeps progressing. For a rookie, he played some pretty damn good ball. Fans need to keep in mind that very few of their own players grew up rooting for the team they play for.

Very nice artwork. Now. Maybe not so nice if he goes the David Pollack/Mark Schlereth weight loss route after the NFL. :D

That's pretty hilarious. I'm sure that Bronco fans hate it, but as long as he still performs on the field, I don't see the big deal.

People are kidding themselves if they think 90% of players aren't purely motivated by money anyway.

If a Chiefs player got a Donkey or Gay Raider tattoo I'd say cut him.

This is cool tattoo I'm jealous I just have  on my right arm.

I'd like to get a Royals WC tattoo on my left arm.

Why Not?

Meh. Our equivalent to this would be Marcus Peters, who LOVES the Raiders. I don't care as long as he still plays all out for us.

Unfortunately, Peters will most likely replace S. Smith in Oakland someday.

Money talks in 80% of the scenarios. A few give a playoff caliber team a slight discount. VERY few would go too far out of their way to play for their childhood team.

The difference between me and Dorsey is that I love the game by emotion which means I'm likely to overreact only because I am a fanatic of the game and of the Chiefs. Dorsey is going to GM with a level head and keel emotion so I don't have to worry about those things if a player has another teams logo but I tell you what I can cheer and boo whoever I like or don't like. I like Marcus Peters because he is a great player and I know he plays his heart out for the Chiefs so if I kept my emotions in check and keel then no I absolutely wouldn't cut him because that would be considerably stupid.

My brother claims to be a Raiders fan but I tell you what I would sell his soul to the Debil if I thought it would bring a Super Bowl Championship to the Kansas City Chiefs. :titus:

You guys realize the NFL is one big entity not 32 individual ones right? They don't have the dislike for other teams the fans do. There are no "rivalries" anymore.

I know, right? The Steelers and the Bengals just love each other so much. Burfict was singing kumbaya on the field last January.

Tony G was a Raiders fan growing up too. It's no biggie. But once you hit the pros it becomes about the relationships, the system, the coaches, and of course the money. Ray will go all out for the Broncos, and Peters for the Chiefs, as they want to establish their own legacy and bank accounts...

One thing too is that they want to play at their very best in front of family and friends they grew up with in that city. So they can pretty much just show off and have fun and it's meaningful to them.
