View Full Version : Other Sports Baseball Memorabilia Auction

Okay, so as some of you know, I work as an online estate sale organizer in real life, and one of the auctions we just put up is the estate of a lifelong baseball memorabilia collector. There really is an unbelievable amount of stuff in here; MLB players would come to his house as if it was a museum. There are signed photos and baseballs, vintage posters and pennants, lots of bobbleheads and figurines, Negro League and women's league things, and memorabilia from almost every team.

To be quite honest, it isn't getting as much attention as we were hoping, which sucks for us as a company, but because everything starts bidding at a dollar, it means that things are going for much less than they otherwise would. So here's the link; there's a good chance it'll be worth it for you to sign up and bid (especially since there's a special offer for first-timers).

They're also selling a bunch of non-baseball household stuff, and the auction ends on Tuesday night. Here's the link.

https://www.ebth.com/sales/12313-sports-memorabilia-collectibles-more/categories

If you happen to live in the DC area, you can pick up whatever you win on Thursday, but otherwise we also offer shipping (which for baseballs and pictures probably won't be much). Make sure you check the shipping price before you bid.

And to give you an idea of the scope, this is what his baseball room looked like before we organized it.

And that's not even counting what was already upstairs, in the stairwell, in those cabinets, or in his back room.

Good luck.

Are there reserves that have to be met for most of these?

Because these prices are insanely low.

Nope. Everything starts at a dollar. Some of them stay there.

Now, to be fair, in the last few minutes, prices tend to spike as people play the last-minute bidding game, as they do on eBay. The difference between us and eBay is that a bid on our site adds five minutes to the clock, so others have a chance to answer. So many items will go up at the end, but on the other hand I've seen plenty of stuff go for ridiculously low amounts.

Interesting. Well I am going to place some bids on things later today.

The sports collecting market will never be what it was like in the 90's. People just don't want to spend money on most of it and nothing is highly coveted unless it's super rare nowadays. The internet and access to any item around the world has made prices decrease even further. I simply collect and display and have no plans to sell things for money. I just enjoy having them, displaying them and a story behind them.

Thanks for posting.

I mostly only collect baseball memorabilia and mostly only autographed baseballs. And while some of this stuff is cool, I don't collect the Yankees (personal hate) and most of this is players from a generation I didn't watch. Good stuff though and prices are very low right now. Glad the OP showed us this. I plan to keep that website handy and look at things from time to time. Very interesting stuff in other auctions too.

Just saw when I logged back into the website that I had 1 item in the won category, although I know none of my auctions were ending today.

Went and looked and low and behold I won a purse.

My wife was on and bid on a few things. This is not good, not good at all that she knows about this site now.

I keep wanting to buy some sort of appreciating old stuff, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if I'm paying an appropriate price.

Yeah, there isn't much escaping that. We send the high-end signatures (Ted Williams, Reggie Jackson, Mickey Mantle, that sort) out to JSA for authentication, but if nothing else, we simply don't have the time to send every one of them out. Like our disclaimer says, we match them visually to known examples, and in this case, the seller got almost all of them signed personally while he watched.

But I know what you mean.

Heh. Sorry about your impending bankruptcy.

Just make sure she checks the shipping first. That's the best advice I can give. It can turn a $2 purse into a $25 purse or more, and they don't combine shipping; that really can add up quickly.

I buy my father a lot of sports stuff for gifts. He is retired and sits in his office playing PC games. He has some cool stuff on his walls I have bought him and he loves it. The 2 masterpieces, Arnold Palmer Pic from the late 60's black and white autographed and a picture of Bird and Magic posted up, duel autographed. It's fun giving him this stuff to hang up.

That's not necessarily true. If you do your research, the source looks legit (like this known baseball collector) and you compare known authentic signatures, this is a way to snag cheaper items and then pay to get them authenticated yourself. I have balls I got signed myself by the current Royals. When inclined, I can pay money and have them authenticated to make them worth more. If I can get something I think is real but not authenticated, it's usually much cheaper. You've got to know what you're doing though.

Hell, half of the authentication that took place in the 90's was fraudulent stuff anyway. Those companies have since went under after it was made public their practices. Still happens today so just because something is authenticated, doesn't mean it's actually legit. I trust most JSA authentications, however.

Use to be a big collector. Gave a bunch of Griffey jr stuff to Flopnuts. Gave huge tubs full of cards and memorbilia to Phobia to auction off and he couldn't get shit for the stuff in the mid 2000's when the market crashed.

Most of my stuff on the wall is personal stuff. I got my World Series winning ticket made into a 4x2 foot poster. Have a big frame with a baseball diamond inside of it with pedestals at the player positions to display some of my best cards. That kind of thing.

Authentication is my big worry about any collectible. I'm really interested in this Grecian urn, and it says it's authenticated, but I know nothing about Grecian urns or the company that authenticated it. As far as I know, it could be from Pottery Barn.
