I haven't owned a watch in 35 years. Uncomfortable then, pointless now.

More of an accessory. Jewelry so to speak. I won't be wearing it much. More of a dressing up thing. It suits my wardrobe well.

Men don't have too many options to accessorize.

IMO, the only acceptable time to wear a nice watch is when you are dressed in a nice suit. It's a decent looking accessory that completes the look. This is the watch I wear on such occasions.

I have 5 Raymond Weils. Love their watches and they fit my skinny wrists better than most. Wear these for dress or fancy.

Have a cheap but great Timex with a brown band that lights up that I have had for over 15 years. Last is a square silver watch with no numbers and very artsy looking face that I bought in San Fran about 20 years ago with a black band. Those two I wear all the time for casual.

I've had mine for about 2 months, that particular watch is a special edition of course, but the guts are the same as my Speedmaster Moon.

It's a truly wonderful watch, my only gripe with the watch is the bracelet, which lacks adjustment. No half-links, and only two micro adjustment holes on the clasp. For a 5k watch, it's frankly bullshit. I quickly removed the bracelet and use a NATO strap on mine.

The bracelet on my Tudor however, is leaps and bounds SUPERIOR to the Omega, but then again Rolex products put a lot of R&D into their bracelet designs. Everything about the Tudor bracelet is SOLID. It's engineered very well.

Otherwise, the Speedmaster is fantastic. You will quickly get used to the morning ritual of winding it, and the accuracy is more than acceptable for a mechanical timepiece. Another small gripe, the 861/1861 movement does not have a hacking feature, but again, it's a small gripe. The watch has remained virtually unchanged since the 1960's, and the history of the watch speaks for itself.

Good to hear. Think I'm going to pull the trigger. What is everyone's thoughts on the non-metallic bands that are all the rave these days? I prefer a steel or gold band instead of the clothlike ones, I guess I'm old school. If there was an option to do both every now and then it would be cool. When it is really hot and I would be sweating alot a non-metallic band might be better.

I feel a watch of that caliber should NOT be altered. I feel no difference between a metal band or leather, cloth or rubber in the sweat area.

I much prefer a strap over a bracelet most of the time, especially during the summer months. The Speedmaster looks good on anything, NATO, Leather or Bracelet. That's a great thing about the watch. It's very versatile.

With the Standard Speedmaster Moon, you will receive an Omega Nato Strap along with the Velcro Strap that was designed to be used/worn with a Spacesuit. There are some individuals that make a shorter version of that strap as well. You can find those on eBay.

The included Omega branded NATO strap is very nice, but Omega charges mint for them, around $160.00 or so. For NATO straps, BluShark makes some very nice ones for around $30.00, and the hardware (IMO) is actually better than the Omega NATO strap.

You could always go with a nice Hirsch Leather Strap and a Deployant Buckle, Hirsch supplies a lot of high end watch makes anyway.

And this is actually what I am wearing right now. I usually rotate between this Hamilton, which I've had for about 20 years, and a Casio G-Shock. I don't wear my high end stuff on a daily basis.

Strap on the Hamilton is a Green Maratac Zulu....

I used to wear those Casio 19.95 watches for 20 years due to the amount of fecal and semen they were exposed to. Then I quit and just relied on the position of the sun when I retired. Sometimes if I'm not sure I'll pull out my cell phone for backup.

Watches are no longer seen as a depreciating asset. High end ones are literally worth more the moment you take them out of the store (if you get them for retail, which is nearly impossible right now). I went ahead and diversified into my first "big boy" watch (Sold a couple Mahomes rookies).

I use the sun as my watch.

Pros
It never needs batteries or winding. Will last billons years
Looks good early morning and late evening.
Makes my lawn grown
Makes females wear skimpy bikini's.
Makes sun tea.

Cons
Doesn't work at night
Doesn't work when raining or snowing
Hard see in my basement
Can cause cancer with excessive use

I thought about collecting watches but it got a bit expensive plus I am too cheap, so I try and go for value .

I have marathon TSAR (military style), Tag Heuer Kirium (gift) Hamilton pilot chrono, Seiko Dive watch which I fitted with after market sapphire crystal(hate scratches)
Few Panerai clones lol mostly to sell my watch straps, which I stopped making

some of the straps i made for customers.

I have a feeling I might end up getting a metal watch or two soon, but right now the watch I wear everyday is a Garmin fenix 6 Saphhire: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/641479/pn/010-02158-10, which I got a couple of months ago because my Garmin Forerunner 235 would occasionally say I ran a mile way the hell faster than I could run one. I like the new watch a lot, as it can do things I wouldn't have thought I'd need but now find indispensable, like Garmin Pay (functioning as a scannable credit card), eliminating the need to take cards with me when I'm doing long runs and want to buy cold beverages. ;)

The reason why I think I might end up with a metal watch is that I've become more fashion conscious lately. I've lost 80 pounds during the pandemic by jogging a lot and eating healthy and so now I like wearing better-fitting clothes and nicer shoes. Some say that the first two things others notice about you are your shoes and your watch. I've been splurging on shoes lately, having bought about 10 pair of Allen Edmonds this past couple of months, mostly on sale, with matching belts. I love my watch, but the black silicone band and black case sorta clash with my outfits somedays. I might just get a metal watchband for the fitness watch or a bracelet, as I do like having the watch paying constant attention to my heart rate and breathing and steps and stairs and such. :)
If I do get another watch or two, it would probably be mostly for looks and "as jewelry", because I don't think pretty watches would be able to provide the kind of functionality I get from my Garmin....also, reacting to an earlier comment, my Garmin watch is way, way better for tracking my runs and some other things than my smartphone is. I jogged all my adult life and never really wanted a GPS watch until about three years ago. Now, I wouldn't want to be without it.

I am thinking seriously of buying the newest Speedmaster Moonwatch. Grail watch for me too. It’s such a frivolous purchase, but you only live once. Thought about settling for a Seamaster, but I don’t feel quite the same connection to it.

I wish you could get your hands on a Rolex for MSRP. The idea of having to petition to buy an item like a watch seems silly. I really like the look of the Explorer II.

I have been collecting off and on for the past 30 some years. Can't believe I missed this thread.

Gave my oldest son a never worn (other than trying it on) Omega Seamaster Pro Chrono I bought in 1996 (his birth year)when he turned 21. Gave my youngest son a Bell and Ross Classic Chrono I bought in 1997 never worn. He was born 3 years later but I could not find a 2000 version that was not worn. I have a dozen watches but my daily is a Rolex SD43 MKI. Have been wearing it everyday since I bought it early 2018. It is perfect for me. Watch guys will know what it is. 2 months ago I was offered 150% of what I paid. The market is crazy right now for Rolex stainless sport models.

I've never worn watches since, well, I've owned a cell phone since I was in high school.... but, I've had a Samsung watch for the past several months and it does okay at non-watch things like tracking workouts and steps and heart rate and things (well, it actually kind of sucks at the heart rate thing).

It alerts me of texts and phone calls and meeting reminders, which is convenient when I need my phone on silent, and I can even respond or answer calls.

It has an altimeter and barometer that I sometimes like looking at.

It also displays the time, which I've probably referenced a handful of times. I used to pretend look at my wrist to make a point about being late, but now it's probably only like half as funny since there's an actual watch there.
